But for some reason it doesn't always create them and actually it doesn't create any at all. User and group is www-data . |

Hello, When I try to create a new data source or graph, cacti doesn't create the according .rrd files. For some reasons sometimes it do it. I meanaged to do it for localhost but not other hosts. snmp works fine on the other computers. I run Debian Linux. RRDTool Says: ERROR: opening '/usr/share/cacti/rra/pmac8200_traffic_in_60.rrd': No such file or directory |

I aint here to help you but to rather ask your advice, I am new to cacti and have been googking for about a week to try and get monitoring on our exchange server, but the defaults scripts that come with cacti do not work. Can you perhaps point me in the right direction. Paulo |

I use cacti to monitor a slew of servers and network equipment and it works great. I am having a problem and I haven't been able to nail it down to snmp or hardware. One of my MS Exchange servers is monitored for the usual stuff -- disk space, traffic, multiple cpu utilization, and virtual memory. This server has been having some weird problems and I was hoping that one of you may have seen something like this before. The single most confusing symptom is the virtual memory graph. After a server reboot, the graph jumped to 1.32 TB free with 324 GB used. The disk has stayed constant and it only has one 64 GB Raid. =20 =20 What would be the prober command string to return the virtual memory from the command line on my linux monitoring box? =20 Thanks for your help =20 dave =20 David A. I am having some difficulty with graphing snmp data returned from the UCD-DISKIO optional mib module in Net-SNMP 5.1.2.rc1 using Cacti 0.8.5a. Similar to SteveF's earlier post about this topic I ended up having to construct my own net-snmp_diskio.xml using net-snmp_disk.xml as an example. The xml is attached. I created a ucd/net - DiskIO data query (snmp data indexed) with the xml and Index Type, Index Value and Object Type ID are checked and set to the defaults in the manual. I created a ucd/net - DiskIO Data Template (also with a input method of snmp data indexed) and created 4 data source items to correlate the output fields defined in my xml file, bytes_read, bytes_written, fs_reads, fs_writes; each of these have 0 for min/max and are set to GAUGE. Index type, value and output type ID are checked and their fields are empty. I created a ucd/net - DiskIO graph template and associated it with the ucd/net - DiskIO data query. I have 4 graph items defined for each data source with type = Line1 and CF type = Last; this also created 4 identical Graph Item Inputs that look correct. This is the furthest I have gotten. When I open up a ucd/net SNMP device I see the associated ucd/net - DiskIO query and graph template available, I goto "Create Graphs" and the data query successfully maps the storage devices available for me to select, if I select one and click Create I get this error: "There appears to be a problem with your data query. Please make sure you have made at least one data template association." The section in the Cacti manual that describes this process makes it seem like I have to go into the data sources section for each host I want this on and add the ucd/net - DiskIO data template. I did this, but this seems very counterintuitive to me, wouldn't you just do this to a Host template? In my <Host> - DiskIO data source I left Data Source Path blank, and in "Custom Data" Index Type says data sources must be created in New Graphs, as does Output TypeID, I could only enter something in Index Value and I don't really have a clue what it is expecting. I have tried using "diskIOIndex" and "diskIODevice" but something is wrong. The DataSource debug mode shows the call the rrdtool to create the rrd that gets filled into the DataSource Path. But the rrd file is never created. I've re-read the manual sections several times, I've resorted to trying random things to see if I can get different behavior but I am getting nowhere. Can someone who has been down this path before offer a hint? Even if this works and I can graph diskIONRead, diskIONWritten, diskIOReads, DiskIOWrites, it looks like this mib module only provides counter totals since boot instead of over a set time interval. I also don't think the mib is working for diskIOLA1/5/15 for disk load averages, I don't see them defined for any of the hosts I am hitting with my data query. Any help or tips would be deeply appreciated, thx, |

No known problems. I think that RRDtool is very stable in the 1.0.48 version, I know that the OS-SIM project http://www.ossim.net/ is using a June 10 snapshot of the 1.1 snapshot version. The nice thing about RRDtool 1.1.x is its support for PNG and SVG formats. No more proprietary G-I-F . but I don't recommend people changing to it just to keep up. |

This is normal and proper, should you be linking with the Net-SNMP libraries. Run "ldd cactid". Where the Net-SNMP libraries found in /usr/local/lib ? If so, you may experience version skew problems if the RedHat-supplied net-snmp RPM is also installed. If this is a production system, you may be better served by removing the /usr/local/lib/lib*snmp* objects, and force a relink of "cactid". However, the presence of the equals sign character in the defVersion warning is suspect. Edit snmp.conf, change that equals sign to blank, and rerun "cactid". You should see improvement. To understand what can be configured using snmp.conf, run "man snmp.conf" [after installing net-snmp-devel RPM], or run "nroff -man man/snmp.conf.5.def | more" [if you have the net-snmp sources]. The Linux kernel tracks statistics only for physical interfaces, not for the aliases (or labels) that the deprecated "ifconfig" program might allow users to refer to. Sorry about that! Is anyone successfully using RRDtool 1.0.48, or the RRDtool current snapshot with cacti ? |

Tnx for replay. I have found "rrd_path" in data_input_data_cache table. But how can i get it if i have only "local_graph_id" ? tnx. When we have to get info. which is not available by SNMP, we run the scripts locally and use SNMP extensions to make the information available via SNMP. In the sample snmpd.conf from net-snmp look at the Extensible sections part. It will give you ideas on how you can accomplish the task. > I thought to run the cmd.php on each server to colect data through local > scripts and send them to data base on mysql server. Especially with the RRDs being updated, etc. Polling IMHO is always a better option than push. > I'd like to know if this is possible to use cacti this way and if > there is any documentation about this, because in the original > documentation I didn't find anything specific about that. Hi, I intend to use cacti to many servers monitoring. If I'd use only SNMP to do this, it would be easy, because the monitoring dedicated server could take data from the other servers. Otherwise, there are many information data that I need and can't be colected by SNMP, but only by local scripts on each machine. I thought to run the cmd.php on each server to colect data through local scripts and send them to data base on mysql server. After this, the monitoring server could read those data and plotate the graphics of other servers. I'd like to know if this is possible to use cacti this way and if there is any documentation about this, because in the original documentation I didn't find anything specific about that. No, MySQL isn't broken (or not really). There is only one problem: MySQL on Windows has two users "@build" and "@localhost". You may add users at will. Since these are queried before the new users, and an empty username matches all users, the new users only have the rights these empty username users have. Solution: delete these users. -- Thomas |

Statistics report table in Cacti
=====================
Hello I'd like to have a "statistics report table in Cacti".
Has anobody already work on such an add-on for Cacti ?
My idea is the following.
For the time I don't have time to make any implementation, but if someone
can help me I will be great.
Format of report
============
Selection period: YYYY MM DD HH:MM:SS to YYYY MM DD HH:MM:SS
min average
max
graph_name1 legend_curve_11 x x x
graph_name1 legend_curve_12 x x x
....
graph_name2 legend_curve_21 x x x
graph_name2 legend_curve_22 x x x
graph_name2 legend_curve_23 x x x
where
-The graph1 has a name "graph_name1". On this graph we have 2 curves
displayed. The legend of the fisrt one is legend_curve_11
The legend of the second one is legend_curve_12
-The graph2 has a name "graph_name2". On this graph we have 3 curves
displayed. The legend of the fisrt one is legend_curve_21
The legend of the second one is legend_curve_22, the third one is
legend_curve_23
- The graphs selected will be the graphs selected in the "List View" tab
For each curve the minimum, average and maximum are displayed
- The minimum, average and maximum are computed from the chosen selection
period YYYY MM DD to YYYY MM DD
- The graph will be a simple table in ASCII format.
This ASCII format and the lines above will allows us to make copy &
paste of the information we want into Word, Excel, .... in order to make
reports
For instance in particular I plan to make an availability curve whom values
are either 0 or 100, therefor the "availability" column will be a percentage
of availability of the device in the month
Some elements to help in doing it
=======================
- For the selection period, I would use a mecanism similar to the one
proposed in "Cactistoric" from Bruno PRIGENT
I have made proposal of modifications of the Message Board "Scripts
and Other add-on for Cacti / Cool zoom/history feature for cacti :)" to
zoom on all the selected graphs in Tree or List mode ==> User
"Didier" at the end of all submissions. I'll use the same mechanism
than in the preview mode.
- To know which curve are displayed in a graph, an idea can be to detect
in the rrdtool graph all the LINE 1, LINE2 or LINE3
instructions
And then will have all the information (the name of the variable +
- To compute the minimum, maximum and average I would use
the same rrdgraph used to graph on which
I would remove LINE1 LINE2 LINE3 GPRINT
For each LINE1, LINE2 or LINE3 I would have
rrdtool graph --start <start_of_selection_period> --end
<end_of_selection_period> PRINT <variable> : MIN : %s
rrdtool graph --start <start_of_selection_period> --end
<end_of_selection_period> PRINT <variable> : AVERAGE : %s
rrdtool graph --start <start_of_selection_period> --end
<end_of_selection_period> PRINT <variable> : MAX : %s
The PRINT instruction of rrdtool graph displays the results
in sttdout so I think it should be feasable to have it displayed on an
HTML window
I would separate the computation of min, average and max in order
to put them in the corresponding cell.
- To access this statistics view if possible I would make a tab
"STAT"
The "List Mode" will allow you to select the graphs, when clicking o
view you go to the "Preview Mode" for the selected graphs, if after you
select the "STAT" tab you would access to this statistic report
