You can either reindex hosts periodically using the cli script for doing so, or change your reined method to verify all fields. L Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry -----Original Message----- From: "Ceylan, Hasan" <Has...@do...> Date: Mon, 27 Jul 2009 15:52:11 To: Support requests/questions about cacti<cac...@li...> Subject: Re: [cacti-user] monitoring cluster file systems with cacti Can anybody recommend a better way to graph/monitor cluster file systems on unix/linux servers? I have created a data query based on snmp index, where I get total space and used space from the snmp agent. However, the problem is that if the cluster file system moves around, the index changes and this screws up the graphing/monitoring. Does anybody think, "Host mib script server" would resolve this? Hello: I have an aggregrate graph (Using the aggregate plugin) that combines and displays the traffic for my clients' servers. The aggregate graph shows a much higher 95th percentile line than the uplink from my switch to the Internet. I am theorizing this is because of inter-server communication which does not need to go to the Internet. For billing, I need to measure the 94th percentile usage of Internet traffic on a per-client basis. Is there a way to eliminate the intra-switch traffic from an aggregate graph? Thanks, Neil -- Neil Aggarwal, (281)846-8957, www.JAMMConsulting.com Will your e-commerce site go offline if you have a DB server failure, fiber cut, flood, fire, or other disaster? yes it works. I actually can write and copy whatever I want in that folder using whatever user for the permissions I've set. I also tried to generate a graph graph straight into the folder using rrdtool and it works. But still the export does not! I assume that the export feature produces a png as a result, not a rrd btw. This is just an assumption for I didn't manage to make it working though :) 2009/7/21 Ricardo Mendes <ric...@gm...> > Well, actually I haven't yet used the graph export feature, but I > assume it creates a copy from the desired .rrd file to the desired > folder? > If this would be basically it, let's assume you login on your Suse 10 > machine, where you have cacti running (or 'the' cacti server, as you > mentioned) with the user who runs cacti (the same that on you crontab > job) > > I'll try to create an example with dummy user/paths: > > you login onto the cacti server machine with 'cactiuser', and the path > to the folder where cacti creates the .rrd files is /cacti/graphs, > being the folder where you want to export them /dummyfolder/ > > if you try > > 'cp /cacti/graphs/graph1.rrd /dummyfolder/' > > the file is copied, or does it show an error? > > *note* as I said I haven't used the export feature yet, so I'm just > assuming it copies the desired .rrd files to a folder of your choice. > If this isn't the modus operandis, just ignore my suggestion. > > best regards, > -rm > > On Jul 21, 2009, at 3:20 PM, Gianpiero Cadinu wrote: > > > Hi Ricardo, > > thanks for your reply. > > I assume you mean to login on the cacti server using the user that > > runs > > cacti. Well, actually I haven't yet used the graph export feature, but I assume it creates a copy from the desired .rrd file to the desired folder? If this would be basically it, let's assume you login on your Suse 10 machine, where you have cacti running (or 'the' cacti server, as you mentioned) with the user who runs cacti (the same that on you crontab job) I'll try to create an example with dummy user/paths: you login onto the cacti server machine with 'cactiuser', and the path to the folder where cacti creates the .rrd files is /cacti/graphs, being the folder where you want to export them /dummyfolder/ if you try 'cp /cacti/graphs/graph1.rrd /dummyfolder/' the file is copied, or does it show an error? *note* as I said I haven't used the export feature yet, so I'm just assuming it copies the desired .rrd files to a folder of your choice. If this isn't the modus operandis, just ignore my suggestion. best regards, -rm On Jul 21, 2009, at 3:20 PM, Gianpiero Cadinu wrote: > Hi Ricardo, > thanks for your reply. > I assume you mean to login on the cacti server using the user that > runs > cacti. Hi Ricardo, thanks for your reply. I assume you mean to login on the cacti server using the user that runs cacti. At this point I'm afraid I'm lost. From where do I take the graphs to copy them in the desired folder? I just have the rrd files generated by cacti. Something I'm missing or misunderstanding? If you login with the cacti user, are you able to copy the graphs to the desired folder? Hello, I'm using Cacti (Version 0.8.7d) to monitor links on my enterprise network. It works beautifully but I cannot figure out how to make graph export works. No image is created at all in the specified folder while graphs are generated and updated within the application. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- *Graph Export settings*: Export Method: Classic (local path) Presentation Method: Classical Presentation Tree Isolation: Single Tree Representation Effective User Name: admin Expand Tree Hosts: On Thumbnail Settings: <default> Export Directory (both local and ftp): /usr/cacti_graphs ([OK: DIR FOUND]) Local Scratch Directory (ftp only): <left empty> Export timing: Classic (export every x times) Export Every x Times: 3 Hourly at specified minutes: <left empty> Daily at specified time: <left empty> FTP Options: <left empty> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - I set the export to work at single graph level not through graph templates. [Use Per-Graph Value (Ignore this Value)] - I cannot find any log instance related to any failing attempt to export a graph - Cacti runs on a Suse 10 distro with Apache (2.2.3) as a web server. MySql version is 5.0.26 - folder /usr/cacti_graphs has been set to be written by everyone just in case - When I formerly tried to export to an ftp server Cacti was able to create a folder called cacti-ftp-temp to temporary hosts the graphs but then no graphs has been created. Now I'm going for a local export by the way. - I had a look to v.0.8.7e Release Notes and didn't find anything related to this issue, so I assume an upgrade won't help. Can anybody light up my way? Is there anything I'm doing not correctly? Would you need further information to understand the root cause? Thanks in advance. GP |

Hello list, Our cacti installation is running fine except for two hosts that stopped graphing traffic for some reason. All other graphs from those hosts are working, the only ones not working are traffic related. Cacti's version is 0.8.7d. Sorry if I did not give enough info, I don't know what you guys need to know in order to help me. I've tried some things I found on google/forums/mailings, like rebuilding pool cache, altering snmp.php (trim($string)) but no results. I've been wondering this for at least a year - are the extra wide right margins by design? Maybe whoever marked up the docs thought we needed 80% of the width to write down our notes after we printed out the HTML cacti docs? Did the creator recently take a speed reading class and figured it would be more efficient to layout the field descriptions like a newspaper article? But seriously, am I the only one who is annoyed by this? |

Hello: Sorry for posting this again, but the mailing list stripped the attachment and I want to make sure you can see the graph. I created a graph using the aggregate plugin. Everything looks great except the 95th pct line for the total traffic. As you can see from the sample image, it is obviously lower than total traffic line. Also, it is the exact same number as the 95th pct line for the first data set which is suspicious. Is this a bug in the aggregate plugin? Here is a link to a sample image: http://jamm12.jammconsulting.com/sample.gif Thanks, Neil -- Neil Aggarwal, (281)846-8957, www.JAMMConsulting.com Will your e-commerce site go offline if you have a DB server failure, fiber cut, flood, fire, or other disaster?
