Hello I change update time of rrd databases to 1 minute, modify crontab entry, and daily rra. Now i setup monitoring for mail subsystem. I have 1-minutes graph for messages's rate, but i can't understand how can i make per 5 minutes graph... for example, i have ~5 messages per minute, so i want to see values about 25 at my per 5-minutes graph Could anybody help with this? -- Pavel Volkovitskiy |

Finally found some good docs, and I've got some basic SNMP down, so where I've been able to make some graphs. Found this, looks as if someone isn't respecting the copyrights, but it helped. If the Oreilly SNMP book is like this, its a definate pickup for me. http://www.unix.org.ua/orelly/perl/sysadmin/appe_01.htm I'm trying to tackle the traffic graphs before I move onto my own data collection/graphing. But what are the following, they are in the: Template: Interface - Traffic (bytes/sec, Total Bandwidth)] Custom Data Index Type Index Value Output Type ID This has got me stumped. Didn't see anything in the docs, though it does talk about these fields in other areas (not graph template), and in those areas it says to leave them blank. Leaving blank, it does not save. - Kevin |

Howdy!
In using cacti over the past week or two, I've noticed an annoying bug
when editing graph template item: Specifically, when editing a graph
template with more than one data souce of the same type (ie. same
task_item_id), subsequent edits to graph template items always resets
them to be associated with the last added data source of the appropriate
type.
For example: Suppose I have two hosts for which I'd like to graph their
traffic_in interface data on the same graph. If I add hostA's data
source first, then hostB's data source second, then go back and edit a
graph template item that refers to hostA's data source, when I save the
graph template item its association will be switched to hostB's data
source.
The following patch (which I'll also include as an attachment in case my
company's crappy mail software mangles it) corrects this problem: When
editing a graph template item, if you don't change the data source type
(task_item_id), then its association with a data source won't be changed
if one already exists.

Hi, I was wondering if there is any way to have cacti in other language than english. We want to use it in my company but none of then are speaking english, so it'll be a little difficult. Is there any project to translate cacti in other language, because if none I'm ready to do a french version. I found few message in "include/config_arrays.php", but before starting everything, I want to be sure that nothing have been done yet. Stephane ps : sorry for english but my mother tongue is french. |

Hey guys, I know I put this on the forums board but I pulling my hair
out here trying to get this to work.
I have this script to poll the iostat on a system for monitoring.
I want to make a graph for each /dev/* with the five fields being
graphed in a single graph, example /dev/hda would have the read, write,
wait, and percent in it.
#!/usr/bin/perl
open(IOSTAT, "/usr/bin/iostat -d -x|");
while(<IOSTAT>) {
if
(/(\/dev\/[\w\/]+)\s+([\d\.]+)\s+([\d\.]+)\s+([\d\.]+)\s+([\d\.]+)\s+([\d\.]+)\s+([\d\.]+)\s+([\d\.]+)\s+([\d\.]+)\s+([\d\.]+)\s+([\d\.]+)\s+([\d\.]+)\s+([\d\.]+)\s+([\d\.]+)/) {
my %output = (device => $1, rkB => $8, wkB => $9, await => $10, percent
=> $14,);
print "Device:$1 read:$8 write:$9 await:$10 percent:$14\n";
}
}
close IOSTAT;
I have create also the data_template, graph_template data_input_method
and so forth, but I can't get it to graph. Also the name of it is weird
on the rrd file. I have tried to follow the instructions in the
documents and use existing monitors as examples to try to get this to
work.
Please help me get this going.
Thanks,
Joe

Hi, I want to graph prTable OID. I read the manual and it says to use SNMP - Generic OID Template. I have 0.8.5a and I didn't find this template. I can't find it on the website either. Can someone tell me where I can find it ? Thanks a lot. -- Thomas Poindessous |

For everyone, and those who caught my "More Documentation" thread, who know the kind of documentation I'm looking for on SNMP, so I can build my background for Cacti. Does anyone have/read Essential SNMP O'Reilly By Douglas Mauro, Kevin Schmidt Would anyone recommend this? Does it have good tutorials, walk throughs, along with the background, theory etc..? If my local Barnes&Noble doesn't have it, so I can take a look, I'll have to amazon it. Any other book suggestions. The online docs are getting me nowhere. thanks, Kevin |

I have a remote HP-UX 11.00 host that has SNMP enabled. When I created the new device for it I selected Generic-SNMP. I then went through the motions of setting up checks for available disk space on the remote host. After spending a day looking around, I'm no better off where I began. While there is documentation out there, its all scattered, nothing is consistent in following through any sort of configuration. There are no real world tutorials. There is nothing I've found that takes the many portions: clients, MIBS, scripts and combines them into a comprehensive whole. I now understand all the jokes about SIMPLE-NMP not being anything but simple. Tools at issue, net-snmp, ucd?-snmp, scripts all are open source (which is good), they do however suffer from what I believe is the biggest roadblock to OSS, thats crappy and 'elitist' (we assume you already know half of what you need) documentation. I would assume one could easily walk through, say, config to read proc. usage on a remote client within a few pages. This I can not find. Try capturing stdout/stderr from the cactid run and looking through it for obvious things. Using 'grep -i error' liberally on the output can be very helpful. I tend to save the output from the last 20 or so cactid runs just so I have something I can go back to. Here's a curious issue, the answer to which I've been unable to find in the archives. If I run cactid instead of cmd.php, several of my data sources get skipped. It's the same ones consistently (all of one Data Input Method). Any ideas? I know that's a little vague, but I don't have a good starting point, yet. -- jeff vier <jef...@tr...> TT |

Hey Steve,
Yes I did that shortly after I sent the email.
The output is the following....
<!-- Round Robin Database Dump -->
<rrd>
<version> 0001 </version>
<step> 300 </step> <!-- Seconds -->
<lastupdate> 1084882081 </lastupdate>
<ds>
<name> counter </name>
<type> COUNTER </type>
<minimal_heartbeat> 300 </minimal_heartbeat>
<min> 0.0000000000e+00 </min>
<max> 1.2500000000e+07 </max>
Etc etc...
So the name of the DS is "counter" and the data type is set to "COUNTER".
This I've checked, but the graph just comes out as a little red[X] in IE to
denote a missing image :-(
Cheers
Si

You might also try doing a dump of the rrd file to XML just to be sure
that the occurrence of COUNTER you're finding is in fact the ds name and
not something else (given that COUNTER is also a valid data type). You
can dump the file using 'rrdtool dump /path/to/rra/file.rra'.
You should see a string like so:
<ds>
<name> ds0 </name>
Where 'ds0' is the data source name in this case.

Hey all, Using cacti, and I can quite happily say it rocks :-) However, I have one issue reading data from ntop generated RRD files. I've asked on the ntop list and the DS names are always COUNTER, (I've even run "strings" over the rrd files to verify this) but its just not generating graphs... and I can't find out why. Its using other rrd files fine. http://www.chuffnuts.org/cacti/graph_view.php?action=tree&tree_id=2 (resource graphs tree) I've set it up in exactly the same way as my other graphs, but its simply not showing... is there any extra debug info I can get from somewhere ?
