Another Year of Schnibbles; Vintage Schnibbles

This month Sinta and Sherri, our fearless leaders, chose a vintage Schnibble pattern for our project. Hat Trick by Carrie @ Miss Rosie's Quilt Co.  I love the idea of using some vintage patterns!  Maybe I will actually get to make some of the patterns I have collected. LOL

This month's feature is Hat Trick. What a fun pattern!  I had a great time playing. ;-)

I made my Hat Trick mini.  Well, maybe not mini, but smaller. I had these lovely scraps that I inherited from a fellow quilter and thought they would be perfect in this pattern.  I'm not sure who the fabric designer is, but they were perfect!  My Hat Trick measures 13.5 x 18.5 and fits my little side table like it was meant to be. :-)

Thank you to Carrie, Sherri and Sinta for the fun!
Be sure to visit Sinta and Sherri's blogs tomorrow for the parade. :-)

Until next time~
Happy Stitchin'!

Christmas Through the Year....

When I was gone to my quilting retreat, we had a little fun one night and did a mystery project.
Do you know what this is?

How about now?

It's called the 'Big Foot' and was designed to hold your sewing machine foot so it doesn't escape. I am always loosing mine, stretching my leg this way and that to find it, etc. What a great idea! And I loved the big flip-flop. LOL The pattern can be found here~ Pure Joy Patterns.

I like mine so much, I made a few more for my CTTY box. :-) We did change the pattern a bit and eliminated the binding.

I also put a couple towels in my box earlier this month~

To see what others have put in their Christmas boxes, check out the links at Kim's @ Lily Patch Quilts. :-)

Until next time~

A Gorgeous Day

It is another gorgeous day here, but the weatherman says the rain is coming back.  This is my azalea bed
in front of our house. The tulips were all there when we moved here and I love their surprise appearance every year. :-)  See the dogwood starting to open in the back? :-)

As much as I would like to spend the day outside, I did sew a bit....

New placemats!  This was a workshop given at the retreat I went to last year. The instructor called them Chevron Placemats and she learned the technique from a friend. I do love how quilters share!  I did them in a quilt-as-you-go method so we could use them faster. :-) She taught the more traditional piecing, then quilting method.  It makes me look at those striped prints in a whole new way. :-)

I hope you are having a wonderful day and good weather too!

Beauty~

Sorry I didn't make it back sooner. I have been playing in the dirt~ and matching wits with a sneaky raccoon!  I planted a few new hollyhock plants and the little monsters had a feast! :-o  The local hardware store gave me some tips and hubby and I built chicken wire covers. So far, so good. ;-) I am keeping my fingers-crossed for now and hoping they will survive.

I am loving the blooms this time of year~ even if my allergies don't! ;-)

The tulips are blooming and the azaleas will be next. :-)

Our house is not blue~ it is grey. Funny how the camera made it blue.  :-/

And the rhododendrons have started opening! :-)

I just love spring!
Hope you are having a sunny day too!

Home Again...

Home Again
Jiggity Jig!  :-)
~Mother Goose

I am back from my retreat~ actually I got home Sunday, but have been playing catch-up. You know~
unpacking, laundry and all that jazz. ;-)

I had a fantastic time! I always do~ the friends, the sewing time, no cooking~~how could I not have a great time?   I got a few things crossed off of my list too!   I don't have a photo yet, but i got 30 blocks assembled for a raggy flannel/denim quilt that will be a graduation gift in June. Now to get them assembled into a quilt~ then I will show you. ;-)

I also made these 2 bags and little zipper pouches.

The bags are from a magazine and I can't think of the name now! :-o But I did change a few things and made it completely by machine. ;-)  The Triple Zip pouches are from A Quilter's Table tutorial that I mentioned in a previous post. I changed it a bit too; but that was just me being me. ;-)

I took two classes at my retreat too. They are taught by other retreaters and are always lots of fun~
The first is from the book 'Accent On Angles' and is called Jelly Beans. I didn't get very far because I kept messing up my strip sets. Rather than rip, I packed it up to do at home. (less distractions ;-) )

I also took a class called 'Jazz it Up Harry' and the teacher said she ordered the pattern from on-line for us and then re-named it to go with the theme for the retreat. It is all done with bricks (3.5 x 6.5 inches) and little 1" strips. What I didn't know about this pattern before retreat is that all the seams are partial seams! ;-o Yikes!  It goes together ok, but is a lot of futzing with those partial seams. I decided to finish this one at home because I can use my machine with the automatic thread cutter to speed up the process and waste less thread. :-D

Our retreat coordinators also plan a few fun things for everyone. One was this cute little lamp~ made from a wine glass, a battery powered little tea light and the shade was a Quilt Smart panel. We have a little store set up at the retreat and I found the beads there. :-) It was really cool to see how everyone made and decorated their little lights. :-)

I will be back with more soon~

Have a great evening and happy stitchin'!!

Pincushions!!

I love pincushions!! :-)

Remember the cube pincushions I showed a while back that I made for a swap?
You can find the post HERE. ;-)
I just received my swap pincushions back~ and they are all adorable!
These ladies put so much talent and work into these cuties~
I love all of them!

Did you notice the hamburger? LOL
Here is the inside~

It includes the burger and bun, and a slice of tomato, lettuce and cheese! :-)

Isn't that clever? I think the maker said she found the pattern in an older issue of Quilts and More~
but I could be wrong about that. :-/

I am going to get some new pins for these baby's! :-)

Have a happy weekend!

Weekend Sewing

I did not accomplish as much this past weekend as I had planned~ but I did get myself ready for my retreat. :-) My machine is cleaned, oiled and ready to sew!  And I have more projects than I can possibly sew~ but that gives me options! ;-)

Yesterday I put together this little Three Zipper Pouch. I found the tutorial on A Quilter's Table. The instructions were wonderful~ a fun and easy way to spend a bit o'time sewing. :-)  I know it is an older tutorial, but I just got around to it!  I'm a turtle~ slow and steady. LOL If you make one, please let me know!  I have plans to make a couple more; I love the idea of three separate pockets! And if you have zipper anxiety~ no worries! You can do this! :-)

Until next week~ little bloggy break ;-)  ~ happy stitchin'!!

Sewing BOM's

I am following a couple BOM's this year and trying hard to stay caught up! :-)

This is my April block for the HGTV BOM that I am co-hosting. It is called 'Housewife' and is from Quilter's Cache.

This is the March block for the Kansas City Star BOM called 'Rubies, Diamonds, Garnets Too'.  The blocks come out in the third Sunday of the month House and Home section, so I have a few weeks before April's block. :-)  I am using up my scraps of red and whites for this one.

This is Country Thread's BOM for 2013.  It comes out the beginning of every month on their blog "Chicken Scratch"  I am not happy with my smaller block and am contemplating a re-do. The light has too big of grey splotches in it and they blend too much with the blue. I'm doing it in all my CW scraps, so I didn't have many choices for grey.

And this block isn't a BOM. :-) In my upcoming retreat pack there were 2 squares of fabric and they asked us to make a block. The squares they sent are the small printed musical notes in black on white and white on black. This will go into a block raffle. Although I made a block for the raffle, but I won't put my name in, I just like to contribute. ;-)

I hope you are having fun with your BOM's too!
Have a happy weekend!

Who knew that having a Halloween Hop last week would bring the chilly weather?! We had rain, wind--- the power even went out for a few hours...
