Good News and Bad News~

When I called about my sewing machine, the lady was sure it was a simple matter of a ribbon connector not getting plugged back in after the service tech finished with it. Of course, I had to drive all the way to their shop for her to check. When I got there, she took my machine 'in the back' and said she'd be right back. Pretty soon another gal came out and got my power cord. Then I saw that gal hoovering around another part of the store, but she didn't come back and say anything to me. Finally the original lady (who was sure she could fix it) came out. She couldn't fix it. :-( Ok, I'm not proud of it, but I whined. :-)) I couldn't face another week of not sewing!! Well, I do have my oldie but goodies here, but I wanted my good machine so I could use my quarter inch foot. I did it~ I asked if they had loaners. She paused, and then said she'd see... :-/ I must've looked most pitiful because she 'found' one! It is a bit newer than mine and has a few more whistles. :-) I'm happy to say I am sewing!! She wasn't sure when mine would be fixed and back, but I can be patient as long as I can still sew. ;-)

And speaking of sewing~~ I've done a lot. I can't show one thing because it is a gift. And I got my BOM finished up for my class Saturday. And I can show you my choices for the next string swap~~ 30's! :-) They are so cheerful! I picked a red center because I'm thinking of something for my kitchen. ;-) And yes, I am hosting this one... we take turns and I figured it was my turn. ;-)

A lazy Sunday ;)

Well it is here! :-) I picked my sewing machine up from having it serviced yesterday. Today I plugged it in and was all ready to sew and .... waaaa! None of the buttons work!!! :-( I am so bummed. It turns on and I can sew straight, but can't change the stitch, move the needle, or reverse! I am not happy. :-( They are closed today, but will be hearing from me tomorrow.

I pulled out my autumn quilts. Although I made them all in years past, it is still eye candy! The quilt on the bed is from one of Kim Diehl's books. And the door banner is from a Debbie Mumm book. They are two of my favorite autumn quilts. :-)

Have a good evening!~

Has it Been a Week??!

Since my last blog post? Really!? It went by too fast! :-)

I am happy to report that DD is 'launched'. ;-) We took her to college, and she is happily settled into her dorm room and college life. It was no easy task getting her packed up though! My washer broke doing her 'last loads' and we had to make a quick trip to a laundromat. Then the door knob pulled off the door~~ twice! :-o (I guess I'm not as handy with a screwdriver as I thought!) LOL And then, of course, anytime we move anything~ it rains! ;-)

Today I needed a little 'down time' so I made a paper-pieced block. I have a love/hate relationship with paper-piecing. I love the end result, but really am not too fond of the 'tediousness' of it at all! :-/ A lot of fussing for one block! But here it is. It is a modified 'Hawaii' from Carol Doak's '50 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Stars' book. Now to work on dinner...

Until next time....

Autumn String blocks...

The swap is winding to an end, and even though I'm waiting on 3 sets of blocks from participants, I have been playing. :-) I tried a lot of different arrangements, laying the blocks I've received out on the living room floor and switching them this way and that way, and I finally decided to try something a bit different. This is what I came up with~ it's partially sewn together, just waiting for the remaining blocks, but I can now pick it up off the floor! I was afraid to move it until I could get some of it together. LOL :-) I think I'm going to like it! ;-) Although I've not seen string blocks used in this way, I'm sure it has probably been done before, it seems most everything has already been done. ;-)
**Once again it has been tipped sideways by blogger, sorry about that! :-/ I think it has something to do with how I resize photo's... You can click on it for a bigger view.

Next I'll go back to working on cars....

Until next time, happy stitchin'!

Odds 'n Ends

DD wanted a case for her body pillow~ she uses it as her bed's headboard since her bed doesn't have one. She came up with the perfect fabric and we studied pillow shams and cases until we found one with an all-in-one folded flap end. We cut, we sewed, we serged and viola~ I tease her about how she can sleep at night with something so loud in her room. ;-)

And my Secret Sister sent me a wonderful gift this month! Well, she does every month. ;-) I'm anxious to learn who she is as she seems to know me! Anyway its a Sidewinder! And I've been putting it to good use. Works great! :-) A few snacks are always a hit here too...

Have a happy weekend, relax, sew and if you are near Hurricane Ike, be safe!

I have been tagged...

Quilter Going Bananas has tagged me with a 'getting to know you' little quiz.

Here are the rules:
1. Link to the person who “tagged” you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post.
5. Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
6. Let the tagger know your entry is up.

Let's see, what can I say... ;-) Random things...
1. I'm ambidextrous with the rotary cutter. I love not having to rotate the mat around to make cuts. ;-)
2. I like to bake.
3. Autumn is my favorite time of the year, with Winter a close second!
4. Coke, not Pepsi. :-)
5. I'm an only daughter with 2 brothers, and I have only one daughter and 2 sons.
6. I've worked as a tour guide. :-)

Now to tag 6 people. That is harder than you might think!
I'm going to pick in no particular order..
1. Bingo~Bonnie ~because I'd like to know more about her.. ;-)
2. Stephanie ~because I haven't heard from her in a while... :-)
3. Holly at AndSewItIs ~for the same reason I picked Bonnie. ;-)
4. Evelyn at ScrapHappyQuilts ~just for fun :-)
5. KCQuilter ~for fun too. ;-)
6. ~you!~
I'll leave 6 blank so if you are visiting my blog but haven't posted, you have the opportunity to join in the game. Have fun with it!

Start your Engines...

I've taken a little break from my swap projects to try a new pattern. I found this book/pattern while on vacation over the summer and thought it would be perfect for a special little boy. ;-) The book is called 'Doodle Bugs' by Annette Ornelas. I have 3 more cars cut out and ready to sew tomorrow. :-)

Making Mini's~

Y'all know I've been making mini 9-patch blocks all year and swapping them with other quilters through Bingo~Bonnie. This round is for green mini 9-patches. :-) Mine are finished and trimmed! Tomorrow they will go to the PO. That sure doesn't look like over 60 little 9-patch blocks, does it?

A Give-Away~

Check this out! :-) Jane's Fabrics and Quilts is celebrating her birthday with a great give-away. I just love 30's fabrics! :-) Thanks to Myra I am entered for a chance to win. :-) Now if you don't want to dilute our chances, that's ok!, but stop by and read her blog. Lots of neat ideas there! :-))

A Rail Fence quilt...

I participated in a swap of Rail Fence blocks in Christmas prints in 2006. I got the top together but never had it quilted. It was the perfect top to do more practicing with on the LQS's HQ-16! :-) I did freehand loops and stars all over it and I just love it! :-)) I purchased an extra wide backing fabric for it, so no seams in the back to worry about. It quilted up really fast! Much faster than the pantograph did on the blue/tan quilt below! LOL Of course, it is a little smaller top too. It will fit my DS's twin bed perfectly this holiday season. :-) It will probably take me until then to get the binding on! LOL :-) You can click on the photo's to make them larger. ;-)

Today I worked on some more of the Christmas blocks for this year's swap. It is a fun, fast block and I'm really excited for this swap to be finished. Hopefully next year I'll have 2 Christmas quilts for our beds. :)) Whoohoo!

Until next time~ happy stitchin'!

B-r-r-r-r

Who knew that having a Halloween Hop last week would bring the chilly weather?! We had rain, wind--- the power even went out for a few hours...
