Allotment, May 9th to 17th

May 9th.
The pumpkin mound has been covered with something we call strawberry plastic. It's woven, so water goes through, but it eases the weed problem. I attached it to the ground with wire.

All but one berry bush have been dug up. These ones went to live on another allotment.

I had a helper.
Goofball.

We brought in soil, soil and some more soil.

Aren't they pretty?

Look at those happy daffodils I've moved into one spot from being scattered all around.

May 10th.
There is newspaper and cardboard under the raised beds to kill the weeds underneath.

May 11th.
Peatime!

Putting on the gauze to protect my babies.

Weighted down with rocks I've picked up from around the allotment.

A place for my sweet peas.

Slowly but surely.
All the bricks etc I've found on the allotment.

First one of mine opened!
I looove the daffodils my neighbor has.

Walking home.

Growing nicely.

May 14th.
There's a peony next to the rhubarb!
In need of weeding... sigh.. but still, a peony!

And just look at that rhubarb.

Sweet pea teepee.

May 15th.
I've planted Fragrant Ripples and Blue Shift.

I planted the sunflowers.

May 16th.
But... the Italian Whites did not like it!
Solution? I planted more seeds.
You gotta go with the flow and surprisingly cool nights.

May 17th.
Oooohhh... look!
I see green! The radishes were quickest.

They are all here now!
I wish I had realized to add some earth under the last one on the left.. it's sagging :)
Oh well.

April- monthly recap

On April Fool's Day at work roles were reversed, the kids were us teachers and we got be kids.
I loved how our mini-me's took our tea time as seriously as we do.
Mind you most of them had more honey than tea in their cups :P

The shoulder riding was interesting...
All in all a fun day.

I had a meeting with a publisher.
And as it is official now, I can let the cat out of the bag.
I've got a book in the works!
Dollhouse tutorials from mainly recycled/upcycled supplies.
Will be out fall of 2016.
I'm pretty hyped.
And realize just how much work is ahead of me this summer.

And my niece turned six. Six!
Love her to pieces.

Some brave floral souls showing their pretty faces even with the chilly weather.

How do you know it's spring?
When the school hallway starts looking like this.

The l has gotten an amazing amount of donated books!
We are so grateful for these.
Now I just need to cover all of them...

Pretty, pretty, red shoes.

I bought a balance beam for the Club from Ikea.
Well worth it.
Good fun.
For adults too ;)

Messy yarn, subbing a 4th grade textile lesson.
Oh look, green shoes.

These are the hippest bikes in Finland right now.
I remember them from the late 70's... They weren't as pretty colored then.

We voted in parliamentary elections.
On April 19th.
As I'm writing this on May 16th, we are still waiting for a government to be formed...
Interesting and or worrying election results..

But hey, guess what I did at work?
I fixed a loom!
Didn't know I could do that.
Patted myself on the back afterwards.

I only bought the paper straws because they look pretty.

May Day mead in our traditional booze bottles.
I grew up with mead in gin bottles.

No filters.
The lichen really is that vibrant.

I weaned myself out of the winter jacket.

And blew bubbles.
Because that's what you do.

It's not even May Day and I'm seeing pink elephants...

Just me walking Niina's swordfish.

Blech.
In centigrade.

Oh well, rainboots help.

And if nothing else will make you feel like it is spring as the calendar tries to convince you, wear a pretty floral dress..

..and treat yourself to ice cream.
Bring it on, May.
The last weeks of school.
