Keuruu memories

I was looking through my photo files and realized I never shared pictures from the dollhouse craft weekend in September where I was teaching.

Our trip to mid-Finland started slowly.
Quite literally.
The first 8 kilometers took us nearly an hour due to an accident on the road.
Luckily I had knitting to do on the back seat with a great view through the roof.

We arrived in Keuruu, late, much later than we planned.
Due to the traffic at the start and some difficulties with maps and GPS's after dark.
Yeah.

In the morning I got a good look at the lovely place we were staying at for the weekend.

Right on the lake, no less.

As my class wasn't until Sunday, I spent Saturday checking out what everyone else was up to, and working on a project of my own.
And knitting.
And talking. A lot.

We took a lovely walk in the afternoon to the brand new viewing tower.

Fabulous views from up top.
Indeed.
Gosh Finland is flat. And full of trees.

After dinner we headed outside to sit by the lake and take in the beauty.

My students enjoyed the class on Sunday.
So did I.

A weekend filled with great people.
And good food, we had a great cook.

Last view of the lake before heading back home.

Can't wait for next year!

Our sign

Last spring I got an idea.

The preschool resides one floor above us and basically I was tired of parents confusing us with them.
I figured we needed a sign big enough so no mistakes were possible.
Since obviously our door signage wasn't cutting it.

Plus it does brighten up the staircase to the basement.

I started by printing out the letters and then tracing through them onto cardboard.

Then I cut them out.
And repeated.
There are three layers of cardboard in every letter.
Yes, I cut all thirtynine layers.
This was a slow project.

I marked all three layers with an arrow, so I got them to match.
The layers were attached with doublesided tape. I then used painter's tape to pretty up the edges.

The letters were then painted with black acrylic paint.

At last it was time for some fun!
I raided the craft cupboard looking for something fun to glue on them.
The pom poms are my favorite.

Colorful yarn.

We had saved up the tops from dried markers.

Blinging it out!

Leftover color pencils.

Seed beads.

Googly eyes!

 Chenille sticks.

 I also used plastic beads.

Ruffled crepe paper.

Little pieces of tissue paper rolled into balls.

I even emptied our hole punch.
*grin*

Craft foam.

 A happy bunch of letters.

Pretty in a basket.

And pretty on the wall.
