Hi There, If I try to start torcs I get the following message: GfParmReadFile: Opening "C:/Programme/torcs/config/screen.xml" (0014C744) Visual Properties Report Compatibility mode, properties unknown. GLUT: Fatal Error in wtorcs.exe: failed to create OpenGL rendering context. What is wrong with my installation? Is it the path to the xml-file that uses unix notation, or the GLUT engine? Please help. ROMAN :) |

Indeed grabbing the joystick to press one of the buttons does not make sense when calibrating it's rest postition. May I submit the following patch to make this immediately clear to the user. Since this interface assumes some other input device is present, adding a test for mouse click or space bar would be a good idea. Thanks again. SOLVED thanks to all for helpful suggestions on this, though it was simply a confusing interface and a misconception that was holding me back. Configure players -> Controls -> Calibrate I get to a screen Joystick calibration which says "centre the joystick then press a button. On the line below are two buttons: Back and Reset, neither seems to fit. And they dont. Once you know it seems obvious that it's not the screen buttons but a joystick button you need to press. May I suggest adding the "joystick button" to make this immediately clear: The whole interface is up for a facelift so I wont make further comments here but this is a trivial fix that can go straight into CVS. regards. I was not quick getting back because I wanted to look in detail at why it was not working before replying. anyway, think I've found it: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=12613071 modprobe evdev modprobe joydev modprobe hid #modprobe sidewinder PATH=$PATH:/home/src/inpututils-1.0.0 if [ "$1" = "-c" ] then jscal -c /dev/input/js0 jscal -p /dev/input/js0 > /etc/joystick jscal -c /dev/input/js1 jscal -p /dev/input/js1 >> /etc/joystick cp -f /etc/joystick /etc/joystick.cal else sleep 1 source /etc/joystick.cal fi jscal is not working well for me. It goes through the motions on both axes but if I run it with -t straight after , it tells me js0 is not calibrated!! again flightgear works, so I'm inclined to see this as a prob with torcs. Where is the calibrate function of torcs documented, it does not seem to do anything so maybe I have misunderstood or there is breakage there. TIA |

No sign of my first msg on sourceforge after two days although I did recv a copy of the post. Looks like SF is seriously under-resourced. Awaiting the day when my post is visible to the world I thought it may useful to add some more detail.... Hoping to shake out the prob. I have updated to 2.6.17-mm-rc3 kernel and alsa-1.0.11 (previous 2.6.11 and 1.0.8) Also in the mix: plib-1.8.4-r1 simgear-0.3.10 The good news is nothing changed a spot. So it seems to rule out kernel / alsa problems. The bad news is it looks like torcs is at fault, esp. since flightgear has no issue with the joystick and uses pretty much the same drivers and libraries. The control setup interface has no problem seeing the joystick movement of both x and y axes and saving them, but when I run a race (practice) the controls are totally without effect. Can you suggest how i could narrow the problem down? Thanks again. |

Hi, running torcs 1.2.4 on linux. (all latest release pkgs. I'll give further spec if reqd.) first of all thanks for this impressive piece of software. It seems to be just what I was looking for. I am having a few teething problems with a basic analog joystick on ens1371. jstest shows it to be working correctly and it works on flightgear. I have established that the software runs using kbd for steering/accel/brakes. However, if I set the current driver to use mouse axis movement nothing happens (no steering no accel). Using a combination of keybd and stick I can accel/brake off the kbd but selecting stick axis movement for steering still has no effect. I am hoping to hook up a pair of analog floor pedals but getting a std joystick to work would seem to be prerequisite step. Thanks for any advice in resolving this problem. |

Hi all sf.net updated the CVS infrastructure, the repository are now at "torcs.cvs.sourceforge.net" (was previously "cvs.sourceforge.net"). Look at the sf.net site status for more information and http://sourceforge.net/docs/E04 for all the details. Hi! i don't know who is caring about the Torcs titles - i think they needed to be redesigned since a playstation version of Colin McRae had an excellent opening design (i think the whole template were done on Macromedia Flash, and lately converted to playstation binaries - but i still don't know which design authors or studio did it) in my oppinion, Torcs would need to have this kind of care question: how can i contribute on Torcs with cars like those old ones like Ford-T from 20's (?), a Packard from 50's, even a Buick from 70's, or those f1 cars from early 20th century (all as from default choice or as an easten egg from the game, or loadable as custom)? this would be cool! :-) regards, Paulo -- Olha-me esta cena: http://tugamail.com/cool |

Hi Pete > Hello List ;) > I try to run TORCS, but in the games some textures are missing (see > screenshot attached)! > I installed it using the binary. > Console-output: In the FAQ there is a similar problem explained, look up the FAQ. It might turn out that you have hit another problem, but have a look at it. Sadly your report misses most needed data, so I can just suggest the following: - Start TORCS with -s "torcs -s" - Lower the window resolution (e.g. 640x480). - If this does not help, go in TORCS to the OpenGL settings asn wind down the texture size (e.g. to 64). > checking for XF86VidModeSetViewPort in -lXxf86vm... no Maybe the headers are not installed, if you cannot fix it send another report based on the FAQ section 5.2;-) Look up "config.log" for details, if it does tell you nothing send it as well. Exporting back to ac3d is a bit of a pain, though, since you have to remove extraneous AC3D fields that torcs does not understand. However I don't think there is any significant difference between editing track models and editing car models. If you discover some specific piece of info that is necessary for doing blender-based work on tracks, please post back into the list so that I can incorporate the information into http://www.idiap.ch/~dimitrak/torcs/track-howto.html (Maybe we need a wiki???) Hi all. Vicente has problems to post here, so he has asked me to bring you his mail. Bye Speedy ------------------------------------------------- Hello every body, I'm woring on an Formula 1 cars and traks for TORCS. Finally, my intention is to make a guide that explain the proces of making a simple render with blender (a GNU free 3d rendering program). I have made a real track with trackeditor, I have searched the track map of Montmelo (Sanish F1-grand prix) on Google Earth. You can download the track on my web. Now I want to edit the track with blender in order to add objects and make a nice track. I mean, add trucks, signals of the distance of the curb, trees... The editing of the Formula 1 cars is OK, I can edit the car with blender in an easy way. This is explained on the F1 car section of the web page. You can download a car on my web. You can read more on the web of the project: http://www4.uji.es/~al063357/tutorials/torcs/index.html I was wondering is someone can explain how I can edit the track created with track editor with blender or another 3d program in order to improve the quality of the track. Or if is another way to create good tracks for torcs, please tell it to me. I'm very interested on make F1 cars and F1 tracks for torcs. Thanks to help me. By the way I have registerd on the http://torcs.sourceforge.net/user.php?op=new_user my nick name is: Vicente and vicentemarti The pasword wasn't sent to me. Can some one tell it to the administrators of the http://torcs.sourceforge.net/ site to sent me the pasword? Help is needed to make a Formula 1 track. Formula 1 cars on TORCS, a new project. The web of the project is: http://www4.uji.es/~al063357/tutorials/torcs/index.html Hello every body, I'm woring on an Formula 1 cars and traks for TORCS. Finally, my intention is to make a guide that explain the proces of makin= g a simple render with blender (a GNU free 3d rendering program). I have made a real track with trackeditor, I have searched the track map of Montmelo (Sanish F1-grand prix) on Googl= e Earth.
