Golly 4.1 is now available from sourceforge: https://sourceforge.net/projects/golly/files/golly/golly-4.1/ Thanks to everyone who contributed to this release! Andrew |

I think everything relevant has been checked in now. There was one more promised pattern that was supposed to show up, a collection of the new (2,1)c/6 rake and puffer technology based on Sir Sprayer and Sir Robin -- but it hasn't appeared, and I'm traveling today and won't have time to build out a replacement for it. There's no reason it can't wait until Golly 4.2, or else sneak in to the Online Archives in the meantime. There are certainly more Online Archives updates that should be done, so maybe I'll spend some time in December tackling the next round of that project. Any questions or comments on the mostly-OCA patterns that have been added for 4.1, let me know! They're mostly GUYTU6J's work, with some copy editing and a few additions by me. Thanks -- Dave On Mon, Nov 22, 2021 at 8:37 PM Andrew Trevorrow <and...@gm...> wrote: > > No objections from me to any of Dave's proposed changes. > Hopefully they can all be done by the end of this week? > I want to do the final 4.1 builds no later than the 27th (my time, > which is more like the 26th in the US). > > Andrew > > _______________________________________________ > Golly-test mailing list > Gol...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/golly-test |

No objections from me to any of Dave's proposed changes. Hopefully they can all be done by the end of this week? I want to do the final 4.1 builds no later than the 27th (my time, which is more like the 26th in the US). Andrew |

For Golly 4.1 there's been a lot more interest from more people, in regards to contributing good curated patterns for the pattern collection. To encourage that, I've checked in quite a few new patterns this time around, mostly in the OCA subfolders. Does anyone have any thoughts about the effect this is having on Golly's distributable file sizes? Is ~16MB a reasonable size these days? It's certainly possible to bring the size back down a little bit, by moving a few of the larger stamp collections to the Online Archives, mostly to Very Large Patterns. Conversely, I'm thinking about one or two more additions to Golly's pattern collection. One is the updated oscillator stamp collection that David Raucci ("hotdogPi") has been doing so much good work on. I just have to get the automatically-generated LifeViewer labels looking a little better, and that's ready to check in any time: https://www.conwaylife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=115412#p115412 Looking at the "Super" folder, currently with only four files in it, I wondered if it might be good to add the Exploratorium there -- it's about 85K in compressed form: https://www.conwaylife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=113168#p113168 One or both of these could reasonably end up in Very Large Patterns instead -- but it does seem as if only a small fraction of Golly users find their way to the online archives, so maybe there's an argument for keeping these in the main pattern collection. My current plan would be to move Dean Hickerson's version of the oscillator stamp collection to Very Large Patterns, and replace it with David Raucci's pattern. Suggestions? Thanks, Dave |

Works on Windows 10 and Linux without a problem! N.B. breakout.lua has a default music/sfx volume of 1% so the player needs to press + and ] in order to hear something. credits.lua works nice (and the music is good) pop-sounds.lua works Also Best wishes to you, Scorbie (Dongook Lee) On Fri, Nov 12, 2021 at 9:02 PM Andrew Trevorrow <and...@gm...> wrote: > Here are the builds for Golly 4.1b2: > > http://www.trevorrow.com/golly/golly-4.1b2-mac.dmg (for macOS 10.11+) > http://www.trevorrow.com/golly/golly-4.1b2-win-64bit.zip (for Windows > 7+) > http://www.trevorrow.com/golly/golly-4.1b2-gtk-64bit.tar.gz (for Linux) > http://www.trevorrow.com/golly/golly-4.1b2-src.tar.gz (source code) > > If there are no problems I'll post these links in the conwaylife.com > forums > tomorrow some time. > > Andrew > > _______________________________________________ > Golly-test mailing list > Gol...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/golly-test > |

Me: > I'm going to hold off making any changes to Golly until that bug is fixed. Ok, that bug has been fixed and I've now got Golly playing sounds. Still experimenting with a few things but I'm hoping to do builds of 4.1b2 in a few days. In the meantime, it would help greatly if people could download and try out these builds of Glu 0.5 (Golly uses exactly the same sound library): http://www.trevorrow.com/glu/glu-0.5-mac.dmg (for macOS 10.11+) http://www.trevorrow.com/glu/glu-0.5-win-64bit.zip (for Windows 7+) http://www.trevorrow.com/glu/glu-0.5-gtk-64bit.tar.gz (for Linux) Start up Glu, click on Samples, then click on the link to either sounds.lua or organ.lua. Note that on Linux SDL2 is used for sound play, so you'll probably need to do something like this: sudo apt-get install libsdl2-dev Thanks! Andrew |

That is very strange, I cannot reproduce it on my Windows Laptop (Acer Aspire 5); it scales the way it should on 125%, 150%, 175%, and 200%. I have been running Golly just fine on 125%. Here are some of my laptop environment: Golly version: golly-4.0-win-64bit OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Education Version: 10.0.19043 Build 19043 2021년 11월 5일 (금) 오후 8:53, Andrew Trevorrow <and...@gm...>님이 작성: > We've had the following bug report: > > Windows 10 has a "scale and layout" setting (Settings -> Display -> Scale > and layout). We've had the following bug report: Windows 10 has a "scale and layout" setting (Settings -> Display -> Scale and layout). On my Acer Swift 3 laptop, Windows 10 recommends the "scale and layout" setting 150%, due to the small size of the laptop screen. When I start running Golly, the initial Golly window uses the 150% setting, but when Golly starts running, it switches suddenly to the 100% setting. I can avoid this problem by leaving the "scale and layout" setting at 100%, but the image is difficult to view at this setting. Is it possible to make Golly respect the Windows 10 "scale and layout" setting? I can't reproduce this on my Win 10 VM (I can't change the "scale and layout" setting to anything, presumably because Parallels needs the display scale to match my Mac's screen), so can anybody here with a real Windows machine reproduce the problem?
