As soon as the current release has been out for a month or two I'd like to go in and do some general cleanup of Golly. Google and the LLVM team have released some very nice sanitizers that can be used to find subtle bugs. I am a little nervous that we may find many issues in the Wx toolkit, but I'm also quite certain we'll find some issues in the large amount of code that is currently Golly. I'm thinking of just using the undefined behavior and address sanitizers to start with. Of course Golly has so many features now that actually testing any reasonable fraction of it is difficult. Luckily we do have Lua scripting that can do quite a bit automatically and reproducibly. So I may start putting together some scripts that just do random things, probably starting with the one that steps through the Patterns displaying them all. I probably won't get to this until mid December, but thoughts on how to approach this would be helpful. -tom -- -- http://cube20.org/ -- http://golly.sf.net/ -- |
