hi, I thank for the reply on getting stereo (passive ) on the immersadesk. Iam a student at EVL in UIC . I am working on the vis5d+ As per the suggestion, I tried out the Cave 5d , downloaded the exe and source file( the irix versions) and when it runs it reads cave configuration files. and prints .cache size: 190 grids and Box size X: value, value y: value, value Z: value, value and then comes out without any errors being reported. Iam not sure what is the reason? I tried the lamps.cave5d. I also changed the path names of the files. Please help me out. Also i understand that in order to make vis5d+ (stereo compatible , into passive steroe ) i need to make changes in the window vieports (make 2 view ports one each for left and right ) and also switch camera positions back and forth for the left and right eye. I was not exactly sure where I need to make the changes. Any help in this direction will be very much helpful. regards vaidya. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Hi, I'm an old Vis5d user (nearly 7 years of use) and I'm now trying to migrate to the vis5d+ versions. I've downloaded the 1.2.1 and 1.3.0-beta packages and they "configures", and installs very well on my Linux RedHat8 with Nvidia OpenGL drivers (Linux 2.4.18-18.8.0smp #1 SMP Wed Nov 13 23:11:20 EST 2002 GNU/Linux). The thing is that I'm used to work with several (2 or 3) v5d files (contexts) and I use to "Group" them and put several contexts in the same DISPLAY. Now, I get a Segmentation fault when I try to "Group" displays (in particular when I click on the second display I want to group). It may be of interest that I don't get the error when I open the same file on the two displays (or contexts), only when I open different v5d files. I also get a segmentation fault when I try to put 2 contexts on 1 DISPLAY (through the DISPLAY buttonn at the main Vis5d+ GUI). In this case, even with the same v5d file opened in both DISPLAYs, I get the Segmentation fault. Another issue is the userfuncs/externf settings in vis5d+ on Linux machines. I know the libmain.a was used in the old Vis5d release but now it looks like the external functions need it but it is not built any more. How can we compile external functions under Linux? Sorry if these problems have already been reported to the Vis5d+ users list. I'm trying to access to the Vis5d+ users list to see if someone has also found that but I get a "permission denied" error from the Source Forge page. I'm registered to both (devel and user) lists and to Source Forge also. I can access to the Vis5d+ devel list but I can't read the past messages of the Vis5d+ user list. Thanks a lot! Thanks very much for the fix. It looks like this can be traced back to the
merge of the NCAR Stereo code. Is anyone out there using the stereo version
who can test with the code uncommented?

VIS5D_REVERSE does not make background white
2002-01-16 13:34
Hello,
it seems that the code in api.c [around line ~6197] that makes the
background white when "REVERSE" is pressed is commented out. Is there a
reason for this?
When printing hard-copies of plots it looks
better when the background is white. The releveant code is
/*
#ifndef NCAR_STEREO
#ifndef CAVE
if (dtx->Reversed){
clear_color( PACK_COLOR(255,255,255,255)
);
}
else{
clear_color( dtx->BgColor );
}
clear_3d_window();
#endif
#endif

Hi,
I also faced the problem in using "REVERSE" radio button in vis5d+ and
again changed over to the latest version of vis5d. On the vis 5d home page
the display of this latest version is very good, however, when I am using
it, I am getting the same type of display as was in the case of previous
version. Am I supposed to set any parameters for getting better display?
Thanks in advance,

Dino, I recently installed vis5d+ 1.2.1 with tcl support on our SGI (IRIX 6.5). I ran the following: setenv CPPFLAGS "-I/usr/freeware/include" setenv LDFLAGS "-L/usr/freeware/lib32" ./config --with-memory=0 --disable-fortran If "checking for Tcl_Eval in -ltcl..." still says no, look for an error message in config.log. Next I noticed that the config.h file was empty except for two comment lines. So I copied the "#define" section from config.log into config.h. Copy config.h to a backup file, because running "make" may empty it again. - Bev Wallace > -----Original Message----- > From: Jim Edwards [SMTP:jed...@al...] > Sent: Thursday, December 05, 2002 6:12 AM > To: dw > Cc: vis...@ss... > Subject: Re: Installing full tcl support > > Dino, > > configure determines if a valid tcl is available by trying to link a > fucntion called Tcl_Eval in libtcl if the library isn't in LIBPATH or the > funciton isn't in the library it won't work. Dino, configure determines if a valid tcl is available by trying to link a fucntion called Tcl_Eval in libtcl if the library isn't in LIBPATH or the funciton isn't in the library it won't work. You might try building the standard distribution of tcl if sgi is distributing something that doesn't work. Note also that Cave5D, currently maintained and developed by ANL, is a version of Vis5D adapted to the EVL CAVE and ImmersaDesk by Brian Paul and myself in 1994. It of course supports stereo. I think the first step is to determine if either Vis5d+ or Cave5D can already meet your needs. Cheers, Bill ---------------------------------------------------------- Bill Hibbard, SSEC, 1225 W. Below is a question I asked the ARPS model support about Vis5D displaying a supercell model. Then he says I may need a -box option. Well that didn't help. I do believe that this problem has been reported before with that version, any volunteers to fix it... I'have also compiled vis5d+ v1.2.1 and also for me the REVERSE has no effect (changes only, a bit, the color of the lines delimiting the box) Andrea ---------------------------------------------------------- There's no honorable way to kill, no gentle way to destroy. Click the REVERSE button on the GUI for black lines on a white background. Its there for printing. Check the README file for lots of other cool options. Bill |

I was wondering how one goes about changing the black background to a white background. One can always modify the colors in a gif image, but it would be better if a white background could be chosen in vis5d itself, since modfiying colors after the fact with a tool such as xv can be time-consuming and also sometimes generates undesirable results (e.g., the edges of colored contours cannot be blended smoothly with the background).
