I tried it, but i'm not happy with results... I tried it like this: 1. I added 1-minute to RRA, and rescaled other RRA's, now it looks like this: mysql> select * from rrd_rra; +----+----------------------------+--------------+-------+------+ | ID | Name | XFilesFactor | Steps | Rows | +----+----------------------------+--------------+-------+------+ | 1 | Daily (5 Minute Average) | 0.5 | 5 | 600 | | 2 | Weekly (30 Minute Average) | 0.5 | 30 | 700 | | 4 | Yearly (1 Day Average) | 0.5 | 1440 | 797 | | 3 | Monthly (2 Hour Average) | 0.5 | 120 | 775 | | 5 | 6-hour (1 minute) | 0.5 | 1 | 420 | +----+----------------------------+--------------+-------+------+ 5 rows in set (0.00 sec) 2. Added fifth Associated RRA to datasources 3. Deleted old RRA files Now data is collected like i wanted (I hope :) : <!-- 2003-03-25 12:56:00 CET / 1048593360 --> <row><v> 9.6333333333e+01 </v></row> <!-- 2003-03-25 12:57:00 CET / 1048593420 --> <row><v> 9.6208888889e+01 </v></row> <!-- 2003-03-25 12:58:00 CET / 1048593480 --> <row><v> 6.2020277778e+01 </v></row> But graphs looks strange, first is ~16 hour long (this 1-minute). And it dosen't look like it was updated "per minute". Graph which should be Daily, is 5 day long, Weekly is 5 week long, Monthly - ~10 weeks, Yearly - 5 year long! Is it possible at all to switch to 1-minute updates? -- Daniel Fenert --==> da...@fe... <==-- ==-P o w e r e d--b y--S l a c k w a r e-=-ICQ #37739641-== Między nami mówiąc, te baby są koszmarne. =======- http://daniel.fenert.net/ -=======< +48604628083 > |

I have read several posts on the forums indicating a workaround or patch for the net-snmp problem in RedHat 8.0. Unfortunately, it looks as if that's not the only problem in RedHat 8.0 - the php-snmp package provided with RedHat 8.0 (and the newer ones available via up2date) is broken. Has anyone seen an ETA for an official patch from RedHat? I can't find anything anywhere except for the actual bug report almost 3 months ago on RedHat. I'd really like to get this working since I have a bunch of things I need to use it with + cacti. Any info appreciated. -s -- Steve Mitchell st...@st... http://www.stevem.net/ |

I found the problem. My own stupid fault. Somehow the permissions on the .rrd for that data was set to root.root. *sigh* must have been one of those nights I was playing a little too much. Make sure you have a full set of paths for every command. like '/usr/bin/uptime' instead of 'uptime' for example. Hello, I've had cacti up and going for awhile using the built in data sources for monitoring. I've been trying to add one (a php script that checks our dial servers for total users). The php script spits out the number with no newlines, just as the other scripts (sql for example) do. This is what it shows in the data source configuration: usr/local/rrdtool/bin/rrdtool create \ /home/omnicast/www/lobster/cacti/rra/countradwho.rrd \ --step 300 \ DS:countradwho:GAUGE:600:0:300 \ RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:1:600 \ RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:6:700 \ RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:24:775 \ RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:288:797 \ RRA:MAX:0.5:1:600 \ RRA:MAX:0.5:6:700 \ RRA:MAX:0.5:24:775 \ RRA:MAX:0.5:288:797 \ I have pretty much copied one of the sources, changing only the items necessary. However, while the graphs are created, there is no data in them (shows "nan"). This is all I can find in the logs regarding that command: 03/20/2003 2:48 PM - CMD: /usr/local/rrdtool/bin/rrdtool update /home/omnicast/www/lobster/cacti/rra/countradwho.rrd --template countradwho N:U Can someone help me as to why this isn't working? Thanks, Bryan |

Uhmm.....maybe stacking? Not sure. But that might be a direction to look at, stacking each item...visually you'll end up with the same result, I just don't know about numerically. --On Monday, March 17, 2003 5:10 PM +0200 "M.E. Hello again, I've gotten cacti fully operational and have now started setting up individual user accounts with access to cacti. The question I have is how to get the 'User must change password at next login' feature to work when pointing the users directly to the graphs page. I noticed the request to change passwords only comes when the default page is being loaded (which then, of course, the View-Only users are then presented with the 'Access Denied' scrren). Is there some way to have the password change occur no matter what is the first page loaded? Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Hello I am trying for more than 4 weeks to get this to work. I am using cacti as a front end to rrdtool, with mrtg as the collector. Well; I want to graph the total of many targets ( more than 50). And this is a dynamic list of targets, it gets changed anytime. Is there anyway to do that in cacti ?? I tried the total all datasources (CDEF) But there are two points. 1- It shows nothing when one of the datasources contains nan. 2- Using it, I will be able to only graph the output or input; meaning that I will need two graphs, one for the total input, and one for the total output. I am using cacti 0.6.8a Any idea ?? Regards M.E. -- Person who say it cannot be done should not interrupt person doing it. --Chinese Proverb |

Looks like the php4-mysql package didn't install correctly. The 'undefined function' error message you see is what happens when php is compiled without mysql support. I'm afraid I don't know Debian, so I can't help you resolve this, but I'd start by reinstalling the php packages. As far as the crontab goes, you can add that to the system wide /etc/crontab, and should probably have it execute as a nonpriveledged user, such as the one that runs your website. (In the example you posted, it's being run by the user 'apache', specified by the first word after the final *). Using root for this task on a production system is dangerous. It might make it easier when getting it to run, however. Hope that helps, Fred Damstra Think Extreme, Inc. -----Original Message----- From: cac...@li... Well I checked the permissions and they are correct. I also tried changing the logging in php.ini that was mentioned by Ian and also in the forum. That didn't work, but I found something else in the forum; adding 'cd /path/to/cacti/dir;' in the crontab command. That fixed it right up (so far). Thanks for the input everyone! PHP 4.3.1 sets a few default options that cacti 0.6.8 doesn't like. Check your php.ini file and make sure that the following are set: error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE register_globals = On engine = On Then reload Apache if you made any changes. Yes, php 4.3.1 broke some things. I don't recall what I had to do to fix my install. You can try the online forums (they seem to be a bit busier then this list).
