Summary: Setting Default Module produces blank page

Initial Comment:
I have looked at the troubleshooting page and forums
but i couldn't find the solution.
 
I've isolated it to the default start page problem; for
some reason any module i set as the default module
produces a blank page. If i'm already in the module and
try to reload the page, firefox tries to download
index.php file. 

I've turned on debug, i get no errors or anything back.

XOOPS 2.0.14
Windows 2000 SP4
Apache 2.2.2 with PHP 4.4.4 (apachelounge)
MySQL 4.0.27

I'm sorry, i test tortoise but i don't understand all ;)

With criterai class you cannot use IS NULL or IS NOT
NULL. I make a correction for this.
In this code IS NULL and IS NOT NULL are operator.

I add a new parameter for the type of column, in
criteria. By default the type of the column is string.
Sorry but i'm chocking to see col1 = '1' where the type
of col1 is numeric. I think there is a automatic cast
by Mysql but it take a short time. 
I work a long time on Oracle and typicaly on Oracle on
older version (before 8) if you write this col1 = '1'
and if col1 is a numeric column and if col1 is an
indexed column, Oracle can't use indexes because he put
a fonction and he can't indexes column with a function
(normaly it's working now from 7.3 ). I don't know how
work MySql on this kind of thing, i don't find lot of
thing about motor's optimisation but...

Hi.

Using xoops 2.0.14 and up to date modules.

I'm having trouble getting email notifications when
adding something in different modules. All the users
are set to recive email notification and they all
checked the global/category/whatever notification
inside every module.
But, the users ain't getting any email notification no
matter witch module I add something in. They do get PM
if notification is set to PM - but it's set to recive
email but not getting any.

Anyone with this problem?

I've been doing some further testing of the problems with
sending notification (and other) emails expierenced by
Alienhand and many others of later versions of Xoops.

I've tested four systems:
xoops 2.0.? : xoops.org
xoops 2.0.6 : djvf.dk
xoops 2.0.14: tegneserielogen.dk
xoops 2.0.14: mathecon.dk

Both xoops.org and djvf.dk uses phpmailer 1.65, and the
others uses phpmailer 1.73. (As stated in the X-Mailer: mail
header).

The error I've noticed has to do with the headers of the
send email. (More details further down).
I found that the error isn't present on neither xoops.org
nor djvf.dk, but the other two sites are both showing signs
of the error. And one is seriously affected by it.

Since djvf.dk and tegneserielogen.dk is both running on the
same server, I've concentrated on that one to try to do some
crude debugging.
I simply tried to exchange the 1.65 and the 1.73 version of
phpmailer to see if the error would move. Nothing happend.
Then I also tried to exchange the xoopsmultimailer, but
again the error persisted.
So now I'm wondering where else the difference can be
hidden. Perhaps the notification system, but it's harder for
me to trace.


Well, it's time to go into some more details about the
error, and why it's working for some and not for others.

To help, I've extracted some header information from
notification emails send from the four systems:

I checked all files in the xoops instalation and the
database, but it's not there.
Then I started searching the web, only to find out that
php's mail() function (in combination with sendmail)
sometimes will insert this address if the return-path isn't
allready filled by the script.
Bummer.
Why isn't the return-path allready set? (I still haven't
found out.)

The header problems in turn, gives some more serious problems.
Of the two affected sites above, one is very lightly
affected, and the other is very heavy affected.

tegneserielogen.dk is very lightly affected. The only real
proof that it's affected is the warning thats inserted into
the emails headers.

Mathecon.dk, on the other hand, is very heavy affected. Only
one email every five (5) minutes is send.
It turns out the web-provider has a very sensitive
smap-filter active. If it senses a mail that appears like
spam, it will disable/disrupt the scripts (in this case
phpmailer) access to send emails for 5 minutes.
One of the spam-triggers is if the return-path isn't filled
with a vaild email-address, and since pos...@ma...
does not exists, it's not valid.


Well. Now we "just" need to find a fix for this.
Please help.

Right now I can't reproduce the problem, so I don't think 
it's a general bug in the notifications system.

There's one thing that comes to my mind anyway: it seems 
that you use a danish lang pack, and some lang packs 
contain a XoopsMailerLocal class that is used in some 
cases.
However, due to an update of PHPMailer in 2.0.14 old 
versions of this class may not work anymore, and need to 
be updated too.
So:
- Does your install contain such a class (it should be in 
language/danish/xoopsmailerlocal.php)
- If it does, could you please try to check if the problem 
persists after temporarily switching to "english" as your 
site language.

La table notification est bien mise à jour dès qu'un
utilisateur veut recevoir une notification, mais aucun email
n'est envoyé (quand l'option email est sélectionné).

We've seen the addition of LDAP and some other techie
way of sharing xoops databases, which is fine for the
experts, however an option should be provided for the
availiability of all.

There was once a module which allowed you to share
fields within databases on the same server, or linked
securely to another DB.

Why can this be done in the xoops core.

GeSHi is a PHP class based Generic Syntax Highlighter
that currently supports about 30 languages. New
languages can be added through external language
definition scripts.  
I have modified the textsanitizer class to utilize this
engine  adding a new bbcode extension:

Is this patch dead or can we talk about getting it into the

I have implemented a version of the GeSHi rendering engine
that caches the parsed source code for future page calls, in
my tests I saw rendering time decreases of 75%+ with this
cache. Also, I ran into script execution timeouts if a user
put in code over a certain size (I was able to successfully
parse a source block with 23,000 characters, but it took
15-20 seconds), so I implemented a max code threshold.  If
the code size is over this threshold the parser will not try
to synax highlight the code. I set the threshold at 15,000
characters.

Hi.

Using xoops 2.0.14 and up to date modules.

I'm having trouble getting email notifications when
adding something in different modules. All the users
are set to recive email notification and they all
checked the global/category/whatever notification
inside every module.
But, the users ain't getting any email notification no
matter witch module I add something in. They do get PM
if notification is set to PM - but it's set to recive
email but not getting any.

Anyone with this problem?

Right now I can't reproduce the problem, so I don't think 
it's a general bug in the notifications system.

There's one thing that comes to my mind anyway: it seems 
that you use a danish lang pack, and some lang packs 
contain a XoopsMailerLocal class that is used in some 
cases.
However, due to an update of PHPMailer in 2.0.14 old 
versions of this class may not work anymore, and need to 
be updated too.
So:
- Does your install contain such a class (it should be in 
language/danish/xoopsmailerlocal.php)
- If it does, could you please try to check if the problem 
persists after temporarily switching to "english" as your 
site language.

I'm sorry, I can't take this one...

This may be "more beautiful" in some cases, 
but "unreadable" with some particular themes :-(

One good solution would have been to render 
XoopsGroupPermForm using:

<form class="grouppermform">

allowing themes designers to change the way permission 
forms are displayed. But XoopsForm has never been written 
with CSS in mind, and as some modules code may specify a 
custom class using setExtra() it's not really possible 
(unless we add some messy routine in render() ).

Merged in the trunk and the 2.0.15 branch (r661).

The version I did only requires the XoopsForm class to be 
changed, and not all elements (except the ones that 
actually provide custom JS).
Additionally: what you had written would have broken BC 
(some modules may already have their own XoopsFormElement 
classes, that would have to be changed with your version).

So I ensured the "required" case is still handled by 
XoopsForm itself (as it always has been), and custom code 
is added after when available.

Last comment: I removed the "size" parameter from the 
colorpicker constructor, as I didn't see any real need for 
it, and hardcoded "9" as the size (I hope you won't hate 
me for that).

Additional point for you: avoid the

}

}

That's useless, slower to write for devs, slower to read 
for other devs, slower to execute by php.

There might be cases where it's really needed, but unless 
it is you should avoid that, even if XOOPS is a real bad 
example in that matter (it's an habit coming from the Java 
world, but the point is that PHP is not Java).
