Abstract

Se identificaron secuencias promotoras inducibles por déficit de agua que se pueden usar para producir plantas transgénicas que son más tolerantes al déficit de aguay a estreses hiperosmoticos relacionados que las plantas de control, y, sin embargo, mantienen el aspecto de tipo salvaje o de tipo casi salvaje. Cualquiera de estos promotores inducibles por déficit de agua puede ser incorporado en un vector de expresion que comprende un polinucleotido regulado por uno de dichos promotores y que codifica un polipéptido que, cuando se expresa topicamente, mejora la tolerancia al déficit de agua en plantas que son similares a las plantas de control en su morfología y desarrollo.
