There’s a big brouhaha over a Washington Post article by Taylor Lorenz revealing the identity of the obscure lady who runs the popular Twitter account @LibsOfTikTok. Apparently, people send her links to the most fashionably demented videos people post to Tik Tok and she curates an entertaining selection.
Printing her name and linking to her address in the Washington Post add nothing to the story but are effective pour encourager les autres: if you are thinking about having a pro-Republican anonymous social media account where you post true stuff, remember what Jeff Bezos’s newspaper did to this other person who tried that?
Meanwhile, another example of doxxing is getting less publicity. On Monday I linked to Justice Sotomayor’s dissent in which she was angry that a white man was allowed to serve on a jury despite him answering truthfully. Justice Sotomayor wrote:

“68. Do you sometimes personally harbor bias against members of certain races or ethnic groups?
“69. Do you believe that some races and/or ethnic groups tend to be more violent than others?”
To the first question, No. 68, the prospective juror at issue answered, “No.” But to the second question, No. 69, he answered, “Yes.” He explained that “[s]tatistics show more violent crimes are committed by certain races. I believe in statistics.”
That this citizen told the truth made Sotomayor very mad. But at least Sotomayor didn’t doxx the juror.
But Slate and a couple of other publications did. In his article “A Racist Juror Helped Send a Black Man to Death Row. Why Doesn’t SCOTUS Care?” Mark Joseph Stern printed the name of the juror, a completely obscure private citizen. So, for the rest of the poor guy’s life, his name entered into a search engine will bring up Stern’s foaming at the mouth article.

No, I do it impersonally against them all.
They do this to make it appear that the harm of being your average liberal lemming and someone who knows better look the same. The goal is to knock you down several pegs to the point of where you might as well have lived like a liberal your whole life. Life without parole does not mean what I thought it meant, in the sense that the perp never can be set free. Former California Gov. It is a bit like the question in the US naturalization application about whether you have even engaged in prostitution.
If you answered "yes" to this question, it could be considered to be an indication of what the US calls 'moral turpitude' and your application, while not disqualified, could be put on hold for 3-5 years to allow for a period of repentance and rehabilitation to make yourself morally cleansed and worthy of being a US citizen.
Therefore, while immigration attorneys no doubt tell their clients to tell the truth, I doubt whether they actively exhort their clients to dig deep into their memories for any peccadillo.
The same might apply to the jury question about whether you have ever been sexually abused, which came up in the Ghislaine Maxwell trial. Actually the juror's last name appears briefly. Apparently they have some weird rule in Texas that since the judge gave the defense two extra preemptory challenges that means the judge can wrongfully deny two challenges for cause. So the lower court didn't consider whether the judges refusal to grant a challenge for cause was correct (as they had already determined at most 2 denials were incorrect).
This is fine, obviously, as it is truthful. But the Slate article seems to imply that the juror in question then said something to the effect of “nonwhite races” being “more violent.”
Did he actually say that? If so, that is inaccurate. East Asians have something like half to quarter the rate of homicide in the U.S. as whites do. If he meant blacks and Hispanics (but Hispanics is an ethnicity, not a race, of course), that’d be truthful. Either way, the article does the scary quotes around “nonwhite race” and “more violent,” but doesn’t quote the entire sentence the juror in question allegedly uttered. Does anyone have more information?
The whole idea that a case is "tainted" because 1 juror is somehow flawed is ridiculous. If that juror is "tainted", then disregard his vote and the other 11 jurors still agree, so crank up Old Sparky anyway. You have to look at this in context. A black guy was on trial. The only “non-white race” anyone was concerned with was blacks. His answer, mentioning “non-white” races, was just a (less than accurate) effort to be polite and not utter the B-word. As we just saw with the NY subway shooter, the honorific title Black must never be sullied by associating it with bad things like violence. Supreme Court Justices are Black, subway shooters are “dark skinned”.
The reason they were asking that specifically (aside from trying to lay little traps for a death penalty appeal) was that the Texas statute lists, as a factor to be considered in imposing the death penalty, whether the defendant is likely to commit violent crime in the future. So arguably, if you are of the belief that blacks are more likely to commit violent crimes, you are more likely to impose the death penalty on blacks than on whites and therefore a racist who has tainted the jury. Notice that nowhere in this little chain of logic does the question of whether blacks are IN FACT more likely to commit violent crimes come into play.
As you can see from Sotomayor’s opinion and from the Slate article, truth is not a defense to the crime of “racism” and “racism” is a felony that makes you ineligible for jury service in their world (while actual felons should be allowed to vote).

Actually the juror’s last name appears briefly. Apparently they have some weird rule in Texas that since the judge gave the defense two extra preemptory challenges that means the judge can wrongfully deny two challenges for cause. So the lower court didn’t consider whether the judges refusal to grant a challenge for cause was correct (as they had already determined at most 2 denials were incorrect).

If that juror is "tainted", then disregard his vote and the other 11 jurors still agree, so crank up Old Sparky anyway. We have a ridiculous system in America where we supposedly have a death penalty but we never carry it out or only after decades because we have set up these impossible shit tests where you can never get to the point where you can actually carry out the penalty that is on the books. In recent years the more conservative S. Ct. has taken to turning down these ridiculous endless cert petitions. Sometime the same guy will appeal his sentence 5 or 6 times and if he's lucky die of old age while his case is still "in the courts".

Juror candidates are all given numbers and aren’t referred to in court by their name. There doesn’t seem to be any reason to violate that tradition in filings other than for witness intimidation reasons.

There are also sketchy reports he was cheating on her. (The accounts that she was cheating on him are not credible). Her husband was a candidate for suicide. She was not.
The man who found her was someone who had regular appointments with her and was let in as usual by her household staff. He sets up his equipment as usual, opens the door to the adjoining room and there she is in bed dead. The whole mise en scene was odd - she was upright, she was in a nightgown, she had a book near her (a book that others reported she'd already read), she wasn't wearing her reading glasses, &c.
Dominick Dunne was a personal friend of Eleanor Kilgallan, close enough that he felt at liberty to ask her, decades after the fact, what she thought had happened. She was vocally annoyed with him for asking and gave him no answer. There was something the Kilgallans did not want to talk about, and it wasn't suicide. Her niece and her older children have offered nothing for attribution. Her younger son has offered an account of the sequence of events that day as he saw it. He said he was pulled out of school, escorted home by their housekeeper, who then presented him to his father. That’s the summary statement of the coroner offered at the time. Unless I’m terribly confused, the writer Lee Israel (I know, an unreliable creature) in the course of composing her biography of Kilgallan managed to secure permission to have some of the leftover tissue samples from her autopsy tested. My memory may be failing me, but IIRC, the technicians who tested the sample found traces of 11 different drugs in her system. I’m not aware of the composition of over the counter or prescription sleeping pills, but I cannot imagine that any two of them have 11 different active compounds in them.

Speaking of being alive and (not so) well, Putin and Shoigu made a live appearance on TV the other day and neither of them looked very healthy. Putin looked like he was holding on to the table in order to remain upright and Shoigu read/mumbled from a script. The whole sight was rather pathetic. Russians are not really a smiley bunch but if this was the “victory” announcement for Mariupol the optics were not very victorious. I would give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they were both just drunk as Russians are wont to do but Putin is known not to be a drinker.

We really need to get rid of the geriatric clowns who send young men to die everywhere (including the US). There is a thing in cults (like Mormon polygamists) where the older male leaders push the young men out because they don’t want them competing for the females – this must be deeply rooted in primate behavior. There should be some fairly low age limit on leadership.
