Asumi-chan is intrested in Lesbian Brothels volume 3 - Kuro Itsuki

After the previous reads about the art of painting, next on my list was another volume in the art of girl love making.

Because yes, it is part three of Asumi's adventures to find her childhood crush, who works as an escort.

Though it starts with a bit of a downer for Asumi, as she looks at her bankaccount and sees in the detail the costs of her explorations.  She looks for a more hours job during the summertime, when Nanao, the girl she went to the movies with, meets her in the classroom where she is  having lunch.  As Asumi needs money for a limited edition box she ordered, she accepts the offer of Nanao to move in with her for a while as a live-in maid.

Due to a miscommunication, they end up together in the bath, washing each others backs.  This makes Nanao uncomfortable as she tries not to look to hard at the naked Asumi.  Nanao, thinking Asumi has a leeching boyfriend and starting to feel love-sick, asks her to stay longer on the last day, with Asumi agreeing.  Yet Asumi has also made a reservation at a brothel to reward herself for a week's hard work.

She experiences for the first time a hot lube massage with the girl, Rita. Three days later, she goes out again, Nanao who is developing a craving for her following her again.  She sees she meets another woman, with whom Asumi goes to a hotel with.  In there, they make love in the private swimming pool of their room.  Nanao gets convinced she is however a call girl at the hotel, that has to work of a huge debt...

They set a date to go to the beach together, but unable to supress her curiosity, Nanao makes a reservation herself with a lesbian brothel, and a girl she is convinced is Asumi to find out the truth.  Asumi herself has a date that results in the art of suckling in the meantime. Ouna tells her about her days she briefly worked in a lesbian brothel herself...

So, while the main story didn't really advance in this volume, an interesting side-arc is developping.  Will Nanao give in to her feelings for Asumi, and will Asumi notice, let alone respond, to them?  That will be something to discover in the next volume.

My Dress-up Darling volume 9 - Shinichi Fukuda

Let's revisit our favorite otaku girl Marin, in the 9th volume of this cosplay slice-of-life romance series!

And Marin is all to happy to tell people about "her" Gojo.

Like the employees in the beauty salon she frequents, but then one of them makes a reward she seems to have put on a little weight.   During her shoot later on though, she gets the same remark.  She finds out it is indeed so, yet is amazed Gojo doesn't bother with it, offering to resize her costumes a little.

She suprises Gojo as she bought an expensive camera he had been wanting to buy, as he remains suprised by Marin's force of will, but also her impulsivity.  Trying out the new camera they are amazed by the quality of pictures they can make with it.

Visiting a cosplay event to try out the new camera instead of participating themselves, Gojo wants to learn how to make props for costumes.  He has arranged to that end to meet up with Akira-chan, who writes online tutorials on the subject, while Amane is meeting Marin.  But it turns out Akira-chan is a woman, and she thought Gojo was a girl...

Learning about camera angles, Marin and Suzuka meet up with Gojo and Akira, to invite them to an afterparty.  But this causes Akira, who was open with Gojo, to suddenly fall silent, unnoticed to the others.  Gojo has a feeling though he met her somewhere before.

They all go out together to eat, when the plan is formed to do a group cosplay based on the videogame Coffin.  Marin calls JuJu-san to make sure they get to six people for the event, as all the others she knows chime in to do it.

And so another instalment ends of this loveable series, and hopefully soon I will find the time to read and catch up on the series some more as it remains something relaxing after a busy day.

Hokkaido Gals are Super Adorable!

Okay, I got this series in my Winter Anime League, for some reason I think / hope this could be the new My Dress-up Darling.

And if not, I at least got to watch a series filled with jokes and adorable girls.

When Shiki Tsubasa moves to Kitami City, he meets a "gal" or gyaru (a popular japanese subculture) at the freezing busstop.  Barelegged, she is waiting in the snow for the bus.  She is called Minami Fuyuki, and he immediatly is intrigued by her.  They take the bus together, as he tells her he moved from Tokyo just that day, reminiscing how nobody knows him yet.  They seemingly attend the same school, and she immediatly attaches herself to him in the cold... and he is so stricken he forgets to get on the actual bus, arriving to late at school.

They are in the same class, where he learns he must bring his jacket or a blanket as he isn't used to the cold, but as she makes flirty remarks he doesn't know how to react to her extravert personality, especially when she invites him over to her house a day after they met.  Later on, he repays the favour after going on a kind of date with her to the Winter Festival, but as they have an awkward talk inside a snow fort, his grandma overhears them and draws wrong conclusions.  Yet when she sees Tsubasa smile over at the house, she decides to give Fuyuki a chance.

During a skying trip with class, Fuyuki tells Tsubasa she wants to get to know Akino, a closed-in gyaru in class, better.  As bith Akino and Tsubasa are the big beginners in the sky-class, they spend the day together and Tsubasa breaks into her shell, learning she is a gamer at heart that tries to fit in but is afraid of talking with people.  Later during a blizzard, after he met Fuyuki's mom, who sees her daughter brighten up near Tsubasa, they visit the shopping mall with Akino.  Fuyuki and Akino bond, and Fuyuki teases Tsubasa later that night as she takes a bath.

When they all go out for karaoke night, the topic of Valentine comes up as it is rapidly approaching.  Akino wants to try to make chocolates for the first time, and is aided by Fuyuki, but an accident during the phone call ruins the latters chocolates.  This causes her to burst out in tears with Tsubasa, but he comforts her playing her favorite cheer-up song on the piano.
After a study party he hears from her mother she was all talks about what he did for her, as he spots a beautiful yet slightly odd girl in his neighbourhood.  This turns out to be Rena, the prettiest girl at school and winner of various pageants, and she lives next door to him.

Distracted by all the girls, his grandmother tells him that unless he ends in the top-10 ranking he must return to Tokyo.  Rena, who also happens to be the school's number one student, tutors him in exchange for a date if he achieves his goal.  He ultimately comes in third in the exams rankings, but as he and Rena go out he tells her he wanted to reach his goal to stay close to people he started caring about a lot.  But Fuyuki's mom spots them on their walk in the village.  Fuyuki and Akino follow them as they go to the arcade and a movie.  Having a drink later, Rena shares her insecurities with Tsubasa, but the others barge in as he tells Rena how important they are to him.  Fuyuki's mom arrives, taking them out for a Yakiniku dinner, after wich Fuyuki tells Tsubasa that his next date must be with her.

But White Day is arriving first, and tsubase helps Matsuo make up to Fuyuki and Akino for some mean things he said during Valentine's.  He goes smelt fishing with Tsubasa, only to find Fuyuki present on the lake as well.  Though they have a great time, Tsubasa comes down with a serious cold and Fuyuki comes to his place to take care of him.  He feverishly holds her hand, the next day wondering he imagined it all, while Fuyuki wants that feeling to last forever.

As spring, and the new school year, is around the corner, Fuyuki fears she might no longer be in the same class as Tsubasa, a fear that proves unfounded as they are all classed together again.  Matsuo nominates Tsubasa as class president, and Fuyuki becomes his vice-president.  Later, she confides with him she did that to spend more time with him, and asks him to keep one day free during Golden Week for her, as she has to tell him something.

As the day comes, she takes him away from Hokkaido.  Here, they go enjoying various little things like driving karts, taking a friendship picture at a shrine, and enjoying the blossoming of the sakura fields with some icecream.  As Tsubasa gives her a friendship bracelet, he chickens out to tell her his true feelings, but she takes the word.  The important thing she had to tell him was that she is going abroad to study make-up.  When the day arrives, Tsubasa finds her hairpin in his backpack.  She had put it there after they had rented a hotel room on their day out due to the train no longer riding, but she had snuck out during the night.

He convinces himself to bring it back to her, arriving just in time before she boards the airplane.  As he tells her he will be waiting for her no matter how long she will be away... she tells him it's only for two weeks.

This was a fun innocent series, and some nice relaxing evening entertainment.  Just like Dress-up Darling, it just has that attraction that wants you to watch that next episode for reasons you can't put a finger to, and that makes something nice and enjoyable in my book.

Asumi-chan is intrested in Lesbian Brothels volume 2 - Kuro Itsuki

Next on the reading list for this year it is time for a "Men of culture" book.

And that is, little innocent Asumi exploring the world of escorts more, in the hopes of finding her crush again and bringing her back into her life.

Unknowingly having booked her high school crush and goal of her bookings, it is Mai who recognizes her and starts getting all nervous for the appointment, as they both blame themselves it turned out in a let-down when they tried that first kiss all those years ago.

But that means she has to work as well to keep her brothel visits paid, and at her job in the catcafe, a special school girl event takes place.  But as she is getting overworked, she comes down with a fever and has to cancel her appointment.  As she goes back to the website for a re-booking, it turns out the girl, whom is actually Mai, is full for the coming weeks.  Instead she books Serina, an experienced girl that shows her great pleasure, and due to their get together decides not to retire from the job.

Later she learns her senpai not only knows Serina, but that she herself once briefly worked in a brothel.  Deciding to try the sites specials, she tries a threesome with two girls she had already met before.  Here she gains new experiences, like watching to people making love for the first time before being drawn in herself.  And as such, gaining an experience not even her senpai ever had.

When they are discussing it, they find a keychain of an anime figure, and soon after a girl comes to look for it, Asumi inviting her to go see the new movie.  The girl, Nanao, is rather shy though.  They have a fun night out, and Asumi befirends her.  But when she returns home, she sees on the brothel app that one of the girls, Iroha, offers a cosplay service as she loved the movie as well, resulting in Asumi booking her.  Though their passionate evening makes it difficult for her to see the movie a second time without reliving her cosplay adventure...

And so the second volume comes to an end with a short bonus story of a young Azumi and Mai having a sleepover, and we gear up for the next instalment.

The Quintessential Quintuplets OVA specials

Well, I guess I'm kind of a sad panda as I write this.

Because with these two specials, it is all over and done for one of the anime's I really enjoyed the past years.

The Quintessential Quintuplets, the story of 5 siblings all crushing on their tutor and only one ending up his bride was a fun, relaxing series of two seasons and a great movie, adapted from a 14 volume manga.  And that is exactly what this miniseries of 2 OVA episodes contains: the (few) chapters that where omitted from the manga.

Wether it is the sisters babysitting, or Nino and Futaro visiting the former's employer in hospital, it also contains a large part that was cut from the movie, being their visit to a waterpark as was seen in the first bits of said movie.

But perhaps the most deep hitting chapter that was not adapted in the anime, probably to keep the suspense a bit more up, is the one where Yotsuba is by her own in her favorite retreat, a swing on a playground, and admitting to herself that she is also in love with Futaro, and we all know how the story went between her and the past they shared without realizing it at first.  Except... Yotsuba knew from day 1 when they meet at school that he is the same boy she met five years earlier.

So this was a fun wave out for a great series, well worth the watch.

Fixing Up Christmas

So the fourth and final christmas movie we saw last december on christmas eve, and the end of the writing away of that suffering hehehe.

Though I went in this movie with one clear goal in mind, how many actors from the previous three would appear in this one as well, as they seem to keep drawing from the same pool for all the minor roles in these films.

They all seem to have the same uncle, aunt or cousin, no matter in which family and where in the United States they live.  This also is the one movie that didn't come from the Hallmark stable but from Reel One, yet I still counted three people in the above challenge.

But, I must say, this wasn't to bad a film actually.  The story goes around talented event planner Holly, who has a reputation of satisfying difficult clients, and she takes the job of helping a young CEO-in-making organise the christmas party at his father's company.

During this party, it is the goal to impress the mayor for a new development project, and save the company as a result from impeding bankrupcy, and they grow closer to each other during the sorting out of the event.  But Holly's actions seem to threaten the project, and she might lose it all, until she goes for a private talk with the mayor and convinces him to back the project and everything falls into place.

Cheesy of course, because a christmas movie, but yet it had a bit more "tension"  to it for some reason.  The backdrop had bigger issues then the reuniting of old friends or estranged family typical in the previous three Hallmark flicks I overviewed, and that actually added at least some form of layer to this film.

Ghosts of Christmas Past

And the christmas movie marathon evening went on, with another Hallmark movie shoved on my plate.

Though this was a recent one, being released in 2021.

Ellie is a serial ghoster on dating apps, but at an office party a fortune teller says to her she must make ammends with all those she ghosted before, or she won't ever find true love.  As a result, she decides to find all those men in the week before Christmas to appologise.

But she also has a last minute deadline to take care off, making the task not any easier.  Luckily, her co-worker Charlie offers to help her out on the task, and as they undertake the tasks together, they slowly grow towards each other.

Now, amazingly they end up together of course, but compared to a lot of the Hallmark stable movies, this one isn't actually as wide-eyed and cheesy as many of them, but actually has some relatable relationships in it, like the sister in law, making those characters actually believable due to their sarcasm of the whole situation.

All in all, of the movies I saw that evening, this one actually mad me laugh two or three times, and didn't feel as much of a hardship as the other ones I saw...

Road to Christmas

More christmas goodness to view for this old otaku!

Though believe me, it was not entirely of free will that I have been spending all of christmas eve watching Hallmark movies, but one must cater for his guests.

And the second one, I must admit, was definitly more watchable then the first movie I gave my opinion on earlier this week.  The tale revolves around Maggie Baker, who lives in Los Angeles, working as a television producer.

She falls for Danny, the son of Julia Wise who is also a producer who annually broadcasts a christmas special with cooking and sorts, bit like Martha Stewart to name an example.  Maggie takes up the plan to reconnect Danny with his two estranged brothers during the upcoming holiday special, but the brothers aren't to happy with that plan.  But she persists, and during the whole undertaking is reminded that the love for family and friends make the merriest of christmas's.

Okay, cheesy but not overflowing, it was an average okay movie, the sort that can play on television and you just keep watching for some strange reason, even though it doesn't leave any sort of lasting impression...

Hi-Score Girl season 2

Jumping forward five years to 1996, and the friends are still as passionate about video games as they where in the first season.

And now in their second year of high school, the being brought together by just arcade games has evolved into friendship and more.

As Akira Oono sets into private tutoring, a game of Street Fighter brings back the memories of the great times she had with Haruo.  And Kohura hasn`t given up on her feelings for Haruo yet.  But with the reputation of arcades on the line against a group of high school girls, they stand up for their believes.

When Koharu comes to Yaguchi's aid, she holds him to a promise of a date for when she defeated him earlier, though they agree not to call it that.  But as the trains fall out of service due to a power outage, they pull an allnighter, and Koharu tells a part of her feelings towards Yaguchi.  This results in an awkward situation as Akira walks in on them, but she doesn't seem to mind to hard and love-triangle begins to form.

But slowly and surely, the rivalry between the girls starts heating up, not helped in the least by Oono's elder sister and Haruo's mom putting their noses in.  Haruka challenges Oono to an arcade duel empowered by her feelings, but gets soundly defeated.  As Haruo gains his license for his scooter, he visits Oono but she backs away from him...

Thinking it is because he wasn't gaming lately, he starts training again, even enlisting for a tournament, as he realises he loves Akira and wants to impress her.  But the truth is that her parents had decided to leave Japan again, for good this time, and she is trying to cut her ties to him softly.  They take the train together to the tournament, and arriving in Osaka they visit the local arcade first.  Due to circumstances, they have to share the same room, and as they go to sleep he sees Akira teary eyed.

As Harua advances to the final of his bracket, Oono lost her first match.  But she finds her drive back, and goes to smack through the loser brackets of the tournament and get back in the main tournament.   But then they have to face off in the semi-finals, each winning one round before going into the final and all deciding thrid round, which Oono takes and winning the tournament.

Later on, he engages in talks with Akira's elder sister, who tells him he should be there when Akira leaves.  Running into Koharu, she tells her Oono came to her to ask for her approval to date Haruo and tell her of her feelings towards him.  And so, at her own expense, she convinces him to seek out Oono.
Racing towards the airport supported by his videogame characters, and crashing into the terminal, he reaches her just in time as her flight got delayed, and they fall into each others arms.

This was another enjoyable season of an anime that might not be so well-known, but sure is worth the effort to take a look at!

Christmas in Evergreen: Tidings of Joy

Last christmas I didn't give you my heart, but we did see cheesy christmas movies all evening.

So expect the movie opinions on those in the coming days, starting of with this one, Tidings of Joy.

The Christmas season is approaching and New York City's Katie Connell, a writer with a published novel, visits the christmas town of Evergreen in Vermont.  What starts out as a holiday trip quickly turns into a working expedition when her mother Patti asks her to write an article for her business magazine.

Katie decides to find a story in Evergreen and it's Christmas traditions, and the 50 year old time capsule that is going to be opened this year at the Christmas festival.  She decides to tackle the story together with the local librarian and former reporter Ben, and soon develops feelings for him, making it a wonderfull christmas after all for the sceptical Katie.

Well, yeah, a christmas love story movie, what more can be said of this typical Hallmark production.  Nothing to remember it by, nothing that makes it stand out, just one hour and a half of jolly viewing...

Asumi-chan is intrested in Lesbian Brothels volume 1 - Kuro Itsuki

Aaaah, a good old love story about the one that got away...

Though the title might be a hint where she ended up!  So yes, ecchi inside mucho...

Sweet and weird college student Asumi had a childhood crush on her friend Mai, but their first kiss was a disaster.  During a party, she reflects on this with her senpai, and how that disaster came about due to her inexperience.  Her friend thinks she recognizes Mai from a lesbian brothel, taking Asumi for her first visit ever.

The booked girl doesn't turn out to be Mai, but a gentle girl taking care of the very nervous Asumi.  But as the girl returns to her agency afterwards, she seems to live together with Mai, who still cherishes the same picture as Asumi of both of them when they where younger.  When Asumi decides to find Mai on her own, she starts studying some adult DVD's to research what is out in the world.

Her next appointment is with Jun, a strong, tomboyish girl that afterwards also seems to know Mai.  Because of the expensive nature of her search, Asumi goes out to look for a part-time job.  She gets hired at Izumi's bar thanks to senpai, which turns out is a maid cafe for female customers only.  On her day off, Izumi takes her along for a photoshoot of ecchi cosplay, that goes a bit further and pays well.   Together with senpai, the money is used to book a double date and Asumi ends up with Ena, a soft first timer girl.

Mai meets with the girls, who all have been with Asumi, who herself is becoming a bit the talk of the town.  She follows a collegue booked by this Asumi girl, and discovers it is indeed her long lost love.  As she showers, she ponders what is going on as a message pops on her phone stating she has been booked by Asumi for next week.

And that will be for the next volume.  It is quite innocent in the Asumi character, and given the title no suprise it is ecchi as well.  But to be honest, I`m still in doubt of this particular series, I will keep following it but I am not certain it will become one of my great series that I read in the past in the end...

Whisper of the Heart

Taking part in the "Wonderful Wordsmiths" intrest stack challenge on MAL for this summer, this Studio Ghibli movie was on the list to watch, so I sat down, turned on Netflix, and completed my Ghibli movies watched a bit more.

And there is always that sweet nostalgia to these films animation style, not to mention the Country Roads opening song...

Shizuku is a 14-year old student at Mukaihara Junior High School, where she is best friends with Yuko Harada.  Living in Tokyo with her parents and older sister Shiho, and loves to write creativetly.  One evening as she is looking through the check-out cards of her library books, she notices they all have been read by someone named Seiji Amasawa.

During the next days, she encounters a boy that teases her about "Concrete Roads", a set of original lyrics she had created on the tunes of Take me home, country road.  When she follows a stray cat riding the train, it leads her to an antique shop run by Shiro Nishi, where she sees a cat statue of "The Baron".

She later encounters the boy again in the shop, where he shows her the workshop that he is attending to learn and make violins.  He agrees to play for her, but only if she sings her lyrics.  He is revealed to be Seiji, Nishi's granson, and they befriend each other.  he admits he admires her talent and he had been checking out books in the hopes she would notice him.  A few days later, he is leaving for Italy to a two-month study with a master violinmaker.  Inspired by him pursuing his dream, she asks Nishi if she can write a story featuring The Baron, to which he consents as long as he is allowed to read the story as the first one.

She concocts a lovestory with herself the protagonist, The Baron as the hero looking for his love Louise, and the cat from the train.  But as a result, her school grades start dropping as she looses herself in her writing.  When the story is finished, Nishi reads and approves, and he tells her the true story behind The Baron, which is based on his own past and first love, and how they got seperated during the second world war.

Deciding to learn more about writing, she resumes studying to get into High School just as Seiji returns from his trip.  They ride his bike to a lookout, and Seiji professes his love for her, proposing they should marry in the future which she happily accepts...

A typical Ghibli feel good movie, this is something that did lighten my heart on a serious private matter, which I won`t be blogging about though.  So if you ever feel full of sadness and pain of loss, check out this innocent movie and feel a bit refreshed!

Romantic Killer

So, the next anime me and Noshi watched is one of those "we found this by accident on Netflix" ones.

Which I don`t mind at all, it might be fun, it might be rubbish, let's find out!

Anzu is not your average high school girl.  Not intrested in romance at all, she lives a happy singles life filled with video games, chocolate and her beloved cat.  But one day, as she tries out a new game, a wizard called Riri emerges from the game, telling her she became Test Subject 1, and that she must face romance as her life is turned into an Otome game.

Taking away her three beloved things, and her parents suddenly moving to the USA for a few years, she becomes caught in a series of set-up events made by Riri to let her experience romantic encounters.  Adamant to resist, she keeps running into a boy called Tsukasa, the most popular boy at school.  When she is forced to have him sleep over during a freak rainstorm, Riri learns that Anzu might be a tough nut to crack though as she remains hardheaded in resisting temptations.

A series of strange circumstances cause him to move in with her for a month, but when he tells her he isn`t about dating eitherm Riri interferes.  Suddenly she is picked up for school by Junta, who is her so-called youthfriend, only does she not remember him.  Instead, he has been "fabricated" by Riri and both he and Tsukasa want to find out about the other.

Riri takes human form as a so-called niece of Anzu, and makes it happen that Junta also moves in with them.  Tsukasa takes her out shopping for clothes not with cat prints, but as Anzu starts getting in her comfort zone with the situation, Riri throws in another challenger.  Hijiri is a rich and egocentric boy, who wants to make her Cinderella for a date with him, but as he gets rejected he wants to try ever harder.

When she meets Arisa, Tsukasa's elder sister, they both admit seperatly that they feel comforted by each others presence.  Riri wants to understand romance better though, so takes the form of a young man instead to go on a date with Anzu and see what it is all about.  When she meets up with some old lower grade friends for a reunion, she finds out she did know Junta when they where younger, and that he is gebuine in love with her as Riri tells her she is not allowed to magically change feelings of people, or she would have done so with Anzu in the first place.

Her friend Saki doesn`t date either, but for her the reasons are a trauma from the past.  When she faces her ghosts during a summer festival the whole gang goes to together, Tsukasa's best friend steps in for her.  But when a girl named Kishi approaches Anzu, claiming she is Tsukasa's girlfriend.  He tells Anzu she is a stalker of the worst sort and the reason he moved cities to get away from her.  Blaming Anzu, she wants her out of Tsukasa's life, going as far as sending thugs after her and even attacking her with a knife.

Tsukasa saves Anzu, and Kishi gets arrested.  Riri appears to her in jail, wiping her memories from the past years so she doesn't remember Tsukasa and the events.  When the dust settles, Anzu gets her basic necessities back as well as a new personal wizard, Kate.  Riri is seemingly fobidden to return to the human world as a result of her interventions, but using a lure Anzu makes it happed she can return, to end up living with her as well.

So, a romcom intentionally full of stereotypes, this was some very fun stuff, that suddenly in the final two episodes got dead serious.  That for certain was a very unexpected twist, but doesn't take away from this overall funny and highly enjoyable series!

My Dress-up Darling volume 8 - Shinichi Fukuda

We are back to our cosplay couple, as I got my hands on the latest volume of My Dress-up Darling, the 8th volume already.

And the story continues with Gojo and Marin preparing the costume to play Rei-sama.

The first order of business: creating a realistic wig, including a special hairline piece and all.  But while they finish the costume, Gojo looks through a cross-play book again, feeling that something still is off and making him unsure as he tries to remember from the convention what it might be.

He figures out a way to make her costume more masculin, promising to modify it in before the pageant.  Gojo also asks her when at the pageant to ask more masculin in her role.  She learns posing as a male from a classmate, as all their friends chime in, even to make a rainbow rose.

But Gojo suddenly experiences anxiety on the pageant contest day, as a whole crowd gathered to see how he does her make up.  But he realises he is okay with being the support that allows Marin to shine, and she sweeps away all competition in the pageant, bringing victory on the culture festival to her class.

At the afterparty, Gojo is celebrated as the man of the hour by his classmates, before he and Marin go to the arcade.  But as she wants to have a photo booth picture with him, their classmates appear and ruin the moment, though she still has a decent picture of him now and a plushie he won for her in the arcade.

Now, let's wait for the next volume to come out in july I beieve, to see how our budding lovers evolve more and more in a relationship stemming from a mutual hobby...

Natsuyuki Rendezvous

After the hard sci-fi of Muv-Luv, it is time for something calmer, in this romantic anime series.

With an odd, comedy twist... in the first half of the series before getting (perhaps to) serious.

Ryousuke is a young man with a crush on the lady of the local flower shop, resulting in him almost daily buying a small plant or something.  That way he can get a glimpse of Rokka, the owner of the flower shop.

He decides to get a part-time job at her store to get closer to her, but he runs into a major issue: the ghost of her deceased husband still inhabits the appartment of Rokka.  He has been watching over her since he passed away three years ago, but Ryousuke is the first one to ever notice him.  They quickly come to odds, as he is jealous of Ryousuke, even though his dying wish was for his wife to move on with her life.

But while they are rivals, they also need to work together at times like when Rokka is struck by a heavy fever.  Even though Ryousuke can get closer to her after that, the husband, Atsushi, jealously disturbs the moment.  Atsushi proposes to have Ryousuke lend him his body though, to make him experience what he feels.

Ryosouke takes Rokka to the amusement park, trying to tell her his feelings.  But as he makes no progress, he drunkenly agrees to lend his body to Atsushi.  This leads to strange situations in the real world, but also Ryosouke learning more about Rokka as he is caught in a story book within Atsushi's mind.

During this journey of discovery, Ryosouke learns a lot about Rokka and her late husband, from how they met until how they where forced to part.  But the Rokka in his mind also tells him what he has to do to get her to fall in love with her, as she wants to be just plain happy.

Being inside the spirit world does allow him to get a better understanding of what drives her ex-husband, even though he doesn't agree with his motivations.  He convinces Atsushi of his intentions, and decides to go full time for Rokka.  Rokka has it figured out, and confronts Atsushi with what happened, and that she likes Ryousuke.

This isn`t a bad romance series, but for me personally it missed some "gut wrenching" like for example Your Lie in April.  So not bad, but I doubt it'll linger in my "classic" mind for long.

My Dress-Up Darling volume 7 - Shinichi Fukuda

It's time for more innocent romance and cosplay adventure with Gojo-kun and best girl Marin, as volume 7 of My Dress-Up darling was the next one on my reading list.

And we are well passed the anime since last volume, making it all the more exciting as I have no clue what might happen next.

Sucker-punched by the question if they are going out, they deny their feelings.  Gojo thinking she is out of her league, and Marin that he doesn`t like her for denying it always.  But when he sees two guys apparently picking on her in the bathroom, he rushes in to her aid.  Except it turn out to be two stylists of the salon she goes to, giving her advice...

When Marin comes down with a cold, Gojo skips school to go take care of her though.  Once better, their life as friends picks up again, with even a birthday party for Marin's favorite character and such.  But with the school festival around the corner, there is going to be a pageant contest and her classmates select Marin to represent them.  The assignment requires her to dress as a male, so she selects a popular television character, Rei, as her cosplay.

This makes it a challenge for Gojo to find the time between his classduties for the festival and making her costume, so she decides to give it a go herself.  But when Gojo arrives for his tasks, his classmates didn't factor him in, wanting him to make her costume instead.  In order to help him out and save time, she decides to make him bento lunches all those days, something he greatly appreciates, and strenghtens her feelings for him even more.

And thus concludes this volume, now we have to wait (not extremely long) for the next instalment, and I`m looking forward to seeing how the pageant turns out...

My Dress-Up Darling volume 6 - Shinichi Fukuda

With the for the moment latest released volume of this series, I am going into uncharted territory as this volume is the first one "post anime".

Meaning I now have no idea what will be happening, or where the path of Gojo and Marin goes.

During a cosplay event in the aquarium, they run into a girl looking for a piece of her costume.  When Gojo offers to repair her small damage, it turns out she is actually a he, a crossplayer. Their new friend, Amane, takes them along to a big cosplay store, where Gojo buys lots of specialised make up he never even saw before to improve Marin's costumes.

After they say bye to him, Marin explains Gojo about the attraction and popularity of bunny girls, even how mainstream anime characters often get a figure or art of them depicted in that manner.  But the costume she wants actually proves a huge challenge for Gojo.  After a shopowner helps him out with some tips on how to recreate it, Gojo reflects on himself, concluding he had become arrogant as the previous costumes came so easy to him and didn`t do his usual deep research.

They rent a professional studio setting for the shoot, when she decides to wear her bunny costume to a Halloween party.  Not only that, she also convinces Gojo he should join... in costume!  He dresses up in a full rabbit suit, and during a talk about why he as a guy knows how to apply make up, he learns he shouldn`t automatically assume the worst in people.

But then the question is popped wether he and Marin are going out... but to see how that fans out I`ll have to wait a few months sadly.

Oh, and the shopowner, he had some good advice to live by...

The Quintessential Quintuplets volume 14 - Negi Haruba

It is with heavy heart I started this book, as it means that when I finish this book my journey with the Nakano's will be over.

After loving the anime, the movie and now the manga, I must say I`m sold on the series for sure.

But it starts with quite a reveal, are they actually only Quadruplets on paper?

We ended the previous volume with Futaro having revealed which of the sisters he was truly in love with, and it was, just like all those years ago, Yotsuba.  The girl he met as he was younger in Kyoto and made him become the student he is today due to a vow they made.

Yotsuba says she always loved him, but feels incredible guilt towards her sisters as he picked her instead of one of them, trying to run away from Futaro.  but the sisters, each in their own way, go out to help the both of them and find happiness, to acknowledge their love for each other.  Yotsuba seeks out Nino to get her blessings for their relationship, but Nino tells her she will watch them like a hawk, swooping in to steal Futaro under her nose if she screws it up, which is sort of Nino's way of saying she approves.  Futaro and Itsuki overhear them, as they went into hiding when the others walked in, though Nino is aware they are present.

When Futaro finally takes her out on a date, he concludes it at the swings they enjoyed all that time ago, and proposes to her after he falls of the swing.  She accepts though, and as they start following all their own path's as school comes to an end, Futaro moves to Tokyo, with Yotsuba moving over a while later.

Five years later, Ichika returns to Japan from her auditions in the States, now a well-known actress.  She is picked up by Itsuki, who became a teacher like her mother, and they go to the cafe of Futaro's dad, which is now ran by Nino and Miku.

During their wedding speech, they thank everyone, especially their fathers.  It also shows how Futaro had to play the Quintuplets game one last time, and this time succeeding with flying colours.  As a result, Yotsuba says farewell to her green trademark ribbon, as she has found someone who can always tell her apart.  But the bond between Futaro and the sisters remain, as they all go off on honeymoon together...

And that is it, the manga is done, all the anime has been seen... it has been a great journey with the Nakano's, and I will miss this joyfull, innocent series for series!

The Quintessential Quintuplets volume 13 - Negi Haruba

The penultimate volume of this series that stole my otaku heart, as we keep continueing the journey of finding out who will eventually become Futaro's bride.

And we start by seeing the rest of the viewpoints of the remaining sisters.

Beginning with Miku, who wants to make peace between the girls and their pancake stand, and the boys with their takoyaki stall.  But when that suffers a mild fire, it is shut down by the school board, and Miku can convince the boys and girls to work together again at the pancake stand after she builds up the confidence, even after seeing Futaro with another girl.  After settling the food stand issue, she confronts Futaro on the girl, and once the misunderstanding has been cleared out, she kisses him.

The next girl who we relive the festival with is Yotsuba, who drowns herself in work as she accepts every request for help.  But as a result, she collapses and is brought to the hospital.  Futaro visits her, and conforts her that all her work is being taken care off, as people she helped before are now jumping in to help her out.  After the last day of the festival, she runs into an exhausted, half asleep Futaro.  Deciding to no longer relay on memories from the past, she decides to make new ones and kisses Futaro.

The final sister, Ituski, has been studying for a large part of the festival, determined to become a teacher like her mother.  But then a teacher of whom she attended a special lecture turns out to be their biological father, who left their mom when she got pregnant of the quintuplets.  He tries to convince Itsuki to give up on her dream of becoming a teacher like her mother was, telling her she didn't enjoy it.  Futaro goes to talk to her, convincing her to keep chasing that dream though.

Together with their stepfather and her sisters, she confronts him, telling the reason their mother lost her love for teaching was because of how he had hurt her, and that her daughters gave her hope.  She banishes him out of their lives, and with that resolved she tells Futaro is her inspiration.  But she doesn't kiss him like the other did.

The five of them realize that between them, they can overcome any issue, before each going to a different classroom to wait for Futaro, who will come to the one he chose.  As the festival ends, he enters one of the rooms, where his bride to be is waiting for him.

Yotsuba!

So the choice has been made, and that leaves only a single book left now in the series.  I don`t know yet though if I`ll dive into it next, or wait a short while to lenghten the idea of it all endind some more though...

The Quintessential Quintuplets volume 12 - Negi Haruba

The highlight of the school year is upon Futaro and the sisters, as the school festival has arrived.

And while it will be their last event together, they decide to give it their all and enjoy it to the fullest.

But first, they must decide what they will organise as food stalls, settling on both Miku's and Nino's idea of what to serve.  Miku takes Futaro along to the aquarium, where she tells him she wants to attend cooking school, even though she is afraid he would refute it seeing her good grade.  But he tells her that whatever they decide to do, they have his full support.

When he returns home, he finds Itsuki there, bringing along vouchers for them to the festival.  As he walks her home, she confides in him that no matter what failures life might bring in their future, they where happy to have met him as it allowed them to grow into their own individuals.

Futaro calls them all together, telling them he loves all 5 of them and wished this could last forever.  But he will tell them his descision once the school festival ends, so they can keep the focus for now on the event.  But as Futaro is spotted with another girl, they don`t know what to think.  This is actually Takebayashi, a friend from elementary school that came to see how he did in high school, and who used to be Futaro's tutor.

The story shifts to the points of views of each of the sisters, and how they went through the school festival, starting with Ichika.  After snealing into the festival to avoid fans, she and Futaro help a young boy finds his mother again in the masses.  As they take an evening walk, she wants to know if Futaro has figured out already which of them kissed him at the bell that time, even kissing him herself before confessing this was the very first time she kissed a boy.

Next, Nino takes the center as she is looking for their father, to whom she had send an invitation for the festival.  When they run into Futaro's father, who turns out that he not only landed his son the tutoring job, but also was in school with the quints's dad, Futaro tells him he wants to say to their father his mind.  But thanks to the broadcasting club, it turns out their dad did come, but was called away.  Futaro collects his motorcycle and takes Nino to him in the hospital.

She bakes him pancakes like their mother used to do, using Miku's batter and telling him she wants him closer in their lives.  He tells Futaro he is actually glad he hired him for his daughters.  But as they leave, Nino pulls him in and kisses him.

And so we are a volume closer to the conclusion of this series, with only two books left to go sadly...
