de Seguiran, a lady, a silly kid... and more Dux troops

Continuing with a project I started in the past bonus round, I`ll be trying to paint up one of the Crisis limited edition entrance figures for all of the remaining weeks of this challenge.

And of course, some regular forces as well to go along with the entries, though as we enter the final month, it's going to be more of a hotch-potch of era's and themes x-D

But first things first, the notable Marquis de Bouc, de Seguiran.  An officer of the french Regiment de Maine, as a colonel-lieutenant, he fought in the Battle of Ekeren in 1703.

Being the only non-Belgian entry model we released so far, what was so special about him?  Well, the battle was fought on the fields where our TSA clubhouse stands, and poor Joseph literally drew his final breath on our doorstep...

Sculpted by Paul Hicks, he was given to the attendees of the Crisis wargame show in 2013.

The second part of this weeks entry consists of more troops for my Dux Britanniarum force.  The first lot is the remainder of figures I had from the Gripping Beast Late Roman box set, and form a unit of 12 archers, good for 3 more groups if needed in the campaign.

Secondly, a fresh unit of 8 Dark Age warriors, again by Gripping Beast plastics, join the ranks of my Dux / SAGA force, as you can never have enough Irish for a party.

On a totally different note comes this Pirate lass by Black Scorpion.  When backing their Tombstone kickstarter, one of the stretches was a model of choice from their site, and I just loved her look with the long flowing hair.  She just had to be a redhead to my mind's eye!

The last part of this weeks entry is a dumpster with a monsterlike figure in it.  I got no clue where I ever gotten this nor why, but I decided to paint it up as an objective marker for my Chaos Legion.  While technically "scenery", I just count it as a single 28mm figure, which is about right imho.
Because we all know that the used Tide Pods are even more delicious for the challenge, don`t we kids...

That`s it for this week, mix and match and hotch and potch, but in the end that should come to 23 models of 28mm infantry scale (12 + 8 + 3 singles) for another 115 points to my tally if i count correctly...

Pirates of the Carribean Dead Men Tell No Tales

The fifth (and final?) instalment in the Pirates series, this episode was promising us to feature the original cast.

Which it did, in a way...

While the story starts with the son of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, Henri, looking for his father and swearing to break the curse that holds his dad, this results in him growing up and looking for Jack Sparrow.

Jack has hit rock bottom, being without a ship, a small crew, and planning to rob a bank in a spectacular and eventually comical manner.  Henri hooks up with him, and together with an atrologer who is proclaimed a witch for this, they set out to look for the Trident of Poseidon.  This magical artifact binds all the curses of the oceans into itself, but as Jack gives up his compass, he unknowingly releases one of his old enemies.  Captain Salazar, now a ghost, and his cursed crew have been captured for ages in a cave, but now they are free again to do what they do best: hunting pirates.

Hector Barbossa, king of the Pirates of the Carribean, teams up with Jack to overcome this menace, even though he at first helps (forcingly) Salazar.  It turns out Katarina is his daughter, and he doesn`t want any harm done to her, meaning he needs to join forces.

Now the original cast, including the Black Pearl itself, does make an appearance, even though it`s only a cameo.  Except oddly those two pirate sidekicks (the one with the wooden eye, can`t remember his name atm, and his fatter buddy) who appeared in all the previous ones.

Never the less, while not an outstanding movie, the Pirates flicks remain a good and relaxing "couch movie" for a lazy evening, and even though the hilarious laughs where perhaps a bit less, they are still entertaining gigs.

But I think the story has been told, unless they bring in Woodes Rogers to end all piracy once and for all in the Carribean area...

Build Report: 6239 Cannon Battle

One of the great army builder sets from the previous Pirates line, this gives you both a pirate as an Imperial soldier.

And of course a cannon, all packaged with a few bricks for the rest...

Opening the small box, you get two bags of elements and the instructions leaflet.

The two minifigures, always a handy thing.

A small wall section is included for the poor pirate to hide behind, not handy if one is shooting lead balls at your head in my opinion though.

The cannon itself is build on a wheeled carriage.

Like every set, you get a few additional pieces:

And the full set completed

For the bit of money these tended to cost, and they often went in heavy discount at big retail chains, it`s a great set to expand on your pirate forces, no matter which "side" you build in.

And one can always use extra cannons...

Classic Lego Build: 4191 The Captain's Cabin

I must start with a confession on this set.

When I bought this 80 something pieces set, I thought it went actually INSIDE the Queen Anne's Revenge, but this is not so.

However, it does come with some lovely printed pieces, like the bottles with the Black Pearl inside, or the globe to go on the table.

Three figures are in this set, with of course the obligatory captain Jack Sparrow minifigure, as well as two of Blackbeard's henchmen.

The first thing we assemble of what is essentially a set of furniture, is the table.  I love how they use skeleton feet for the tablelegs, nifty design on that one.

Next up is the world globe, which can actually rotate on it's pedestal.

The final piece of furniture is the closet, which holds the Pearl bottle as a trophy (like in the movie, this is a nice touch).

The closet is then build into several layers.

Bones are added to the sides to give it an appearance in line with the actual ship set.

Some more decorations are then added and the closet is ready.

The full set completed:

While basically a furniture playset, the little thing has some things going for it with the printed elements and such.  Shame it doesn`t fit inside the boat, but it`s a lovely little thing in the end.

Build Report: 8396 Soldier's Arsenal

Today's build report is a small boxed set from the 2009 Pirates II line, and one I bought rather a lot of to boost my Imperial force.

While at 12 parts and a minifigure, this would be a polybag nowadays, shortly under a decade ago they came in small little boxes.

Opening it we get the instructions leaflet and the bag of elements.

The minifigure is one of the "redcoats" as they are known in pirate midsts, with a goatee and hoisting a pistol.

The arsenal is actually a sort of shelf with weapons, and this begins on a 2x4 brown plate with two cones for supporting the level above.

Those levels are basically a 1x4 plate and some modified bricks with clips to hold the rest of the gear.

Topping this off with another 1x4 and a jumper, all we need to do is add the weapons and backpack, and the set is completed.

In this little box, you actually get some nice extra equipment pieces:

And the full set completed:

A cheap and effective army and gear builder set, this is one that can still be picked up cheaply on platforms as Brick Link, and definitly worth the few euros.
