wkend update...

I watched WALL-E on fri night... It's one of the best animations I've watched lately!!!!

Thought it was just a cute robot, but I didn't realize that it would be a movie with plot and meaning. Heard on the radio that the first part of the movie didn't have any conversation and I was quite curious how that could be done. But it did and it was quite well-done...

======

Went to comex yesterday. Didn't really buy anything but quite crowded. Walked over the marina square to avoid the crowd in suntec. Suddenly this couple cut my path and was so close to me that the guy's shoe hit my right little toe... All I could say then was 'Ouch!' but he didn't react...

Oh well, I thought it was just a normal hit although his shoe felt damn hard. As I walked and walked, I felt more pain... Blood!! Sighz.. Stupid guy's shoe hit my toenail and caused it to bleed around... Stupid guy... Marina square is so big and much more spacious! I didn't hurt my feet in comex but in marina square?!? STUPID GUY

My toenail is still there.. and still a little pain when I apply pressure.. *cross fingers* Don't drop!

Good food

Sis's 21st bday is coming, so we went to try the food at Liang Court's Tanpopo restaurant.

I LOVE IT!

My favourite dish is this black pig ramen.. The soup is so tasty... Shared a bowl with my sister but I could practically finish the whole bowl, except that I needed to save space for the other dishes.

Oh, did I mention that the restaurant has a conveyor belt that serves food to you? Not all dishes, but mainly the side dishes, like the sushi, sashimi. It's damn cool. Most of it is blocked so that people can't touch your food. The dish will go down the belt. If it's yours, the belt on your table will start moving when the dish passes by. Viola! The dish has reached your table!

Oh, that's the ika (cuttlefish) sushi coming. 2 long pieces of ika... Not forgetting the chirashi don with thick pieces of sashimi, uni (sea urchin) sashimi and aji (dunno wat fish name) sashimi. Cooked food? There's the ika teriyaki and the lovely, juicy black pork cutlet.

Oh yeah, and the bday gal wanted to try the grilled wagyu beef sushi.. I don't think I need to describe the taste...

About $45 per person... Cheaper if you do not splurge on that sea urchin and wagyu beef on normal occasions.

I'M GOING BACK THERE SOON!

Jewellery

Accompanied my mom to the jewellery exhibition at Suntec. If you went, you'd know that there are lots of beautiful pieces of jewellery. From the known brands we usually see in the shopping centres, to some that I do not know of selling individual pieces of gemstones.

I don't really know how to pick gemstones.

Was at one of the stalls that looked pretty high class and this blue sapphire earrings with small diamonds all around caught my eye. So I asked the salesman for the price. He kindly opened the display counter, took it out, read the price tag and passed it to me.

"It's 250 thousand US dollars"

*faintz* So, I held a 250k USD piece in my hand once! woohoo! I have damn good taste...

Oh well, so I tried very hard to stay within my affordable limits. I thot some of the normal stone pieces are nice as a pendant, but I couldn't make up my mind so I didn't get any. Didn't know if it was worth to get one for $100+.

Moved on to other blue sapphire items. Jade too. Think I'm going beyond the usual 'white gold and diamonds' stage. Saw a few nice items, like white and green jade earrings, black jade pendant with diamonds and a small green jade design on it, cheaper blue sapphire earrings. All so nice, but I guess I'm not ready to part with my money yet...

To the next jewellery exhibition!

Fish Doctor

If you do not know, going to see the fish doctor is very popular nowadays. So I went yesterday to Qian Hu's. A 30min visit costs $10, inclusive of loan of a pair of slippers and towel.

Very simple. No need for jabs or wat not.. Just stick your feet into a pool, sit there and try very hard not to laugh out loud for the first 5 mins cause it can be quite ticklish. The doctors (small, medium, big) will do their rounds, suck/nibble your feet and get rid of your dead skin cells. Supposed to be good for skin problems also..

Found it difficult to take photo of the fish. Only got this nice photo of a big doctor!

[If you're scared, there are pools with only small fish}

Flag up!

End of the women's table tennis finals.. Have to say that it's quite expected. China always sweeps people off their feet at 3-0. They're just too good!

Quite a few exciting exchanges to spice things up...

Who cares whether it's imported talent or local born. Doesn't feel home grown but they have trained here for several years and taken up citizenship. What choice do we have when we ourselves aren't interested in training our kids from a super young age in horrendously strict training schools?

S'pore flag's going up! Woohoo!

Olympics fever

Don't think I'm the only one with Olympics fever, right? When I have the chance, I'll be watching all kinds of sports on tv, except that I'm not very interested in boxing or soccer or basketball. Haha...

Think my favourites are still gymnastics and diving. Very pretty to watch.. A bit of swimming, track and field, and table tennis..

Oh well, I'll be home watching table tennis tonight... I wonder if the neighbourhood would roar at every point, just like the old Malaysian Cup..

Online shopping

wow.. friends are starting their own businesses! Maybe I should start one too.. haha...

Anyway, if you are interested in bags and wallets, you can go to http://iwannabag.blogspot.com/. Currently, there's only Coach, but they should be expanding. If you have specific models you're looking for in Coach or Kate Spade, I'm sure you can email and ask...

If you're interested in clothes, go to http://ourglassmansion.livejournal.com/1682.html#cutid1

Happy shopping!

National Day 2008

Yesterday was National Day! HAPPY BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE!!!

Well, I have to admit that I'm kind of patriotic. Have to be thankful that I was born here where there aren't much natural disasters, a good hdb estate to stay in, good environment to study, grow up and now work in. Of course there are always areas for improvements but I think it has been pretty well. To all cynical people, if you are that unhappy, then go find somewhere to stay.

In my 3 years of working, last thurs was my first time in a national day observance ceremony at my workplace. The previous place didn't have ceremonies that we could attend. Maybe it's my first year that's why I feel so excited. But I think it's nice to have the chance to watch some performances, hear some national day songs, say the pledge and sing the national anthem. Previously in school days, pledge and national anthem were boring cause we say it everyday anyway. But now with the scarcity, it seems very special. And with smart-looking military guys/girls with peak caps/head gears saluting at the flag, I had the sudden feeling that there was some inert special meaning in my job. Not only a job to earn money and find something to occupy time, but also contributing to the country even though I'm only performing a small role.

Didn't really pay much attention to the ndp parade on tv yesterday cause we were playing mahjong at zhen's house. But during the entire day, I realized that I haven't heard much of the old national day songs on radio or tv. Think that the old songs are much better than the new ones. Ever since 'Home', I hardly know the new songs anymore.. So, throughout my mahjong game in the afternoon, the area was filled with my intermitten "broken-record" national day songs. Oh and my new written song when I practically lost all games throughout the north-south-east-west except the 2nd last game. Amazed my chips could last me through the game! Oh yes, my song 'There was a time when pple said that j l cannot make it, but I did... There was a time when winning seemed too much for me to make it, but I did...'

Sorry gals if your ear drums were going to burst from my horrible singing! hahaha...

Now to hope that I can win ndp tickets in the next few years.. *cross fingers*

F.I.R. Concert

On the night of olympics 2008 opening, I went to attend the F.I.R. concert at Singapore Indoor Stadium with my sister.. Got free tickets after booking some holidays with a tour agency.

So we sang along most songs, especially with the help of lyrics that appeared at the side screens. Thank goodness for those haha... Oh, the special guest was 'xiao jing teng'. After his first song, we were wondering for a moment whether he had more fans in the audience than fir themselves.. hahahaha... But I have to say that he can really sing quite well.

At the last 30 mins of so, FIR went 'everyone stand up!' What's a concert without standing up and enjoying yourself instead of being stuck to the chair when fast and happening songs are being played? So I dragged my sister up.. Well, the wall's behind us, so who cares? We won't block anybody anyway.. Really think that you feel that you're in a concert if you stand up and shake to the beat.. (For those who encounter huge gravity that pulls ur butt to the chair, pls attempt to stand up at some point in time. I think you'll enjoy yourself better)

Well, I expected that our section had a lot of other people who also got free tickets.. But the couple sitting beside my sister was HORRIBLE. They looked some utterly horribly bored throughout the entire concert. Sitting back and watching as if there were animals performing on the stage, sitting back with crossed arms and a bored look. The last posture was ultimate. They seemed so bored till they sat forward, crossed their legs, one elbow on the thigh and the hand supporting the head.. Seriously, is it really that boring?? If it is, then go home and leave early. Why put yourself through such a boring performance for the sake of the free tickets? If you don't find it boring, then attempt to enjoy yourself, enjoy the performance. Really cannot understand the psyche of this couple...

Wasn't that close or had good camera lens to zoom in well, so here are only a couple of photos...
