Records of the BIG DAY

Yeah big day.. not mine but wen's. The wedding went quite well although there were some small hiccups here and there.

Thurs night:
I went to stayover at zhen's house. Before that, we went to the supermarket to look for stuff to tekan the groom and xiong dis with. Managed to buy most of them..

Sat:
6am :Woke up to bathe, get dressed, put make-up on.
7am: Prepare tekan stuff, like blend the bittergourd and separate the pulp from juice.
8am: Reach bride's house. Took some ribbons to tie to zhen's car. Ate a bit of breakfast. Prepared the "breakfast" for the groom and brothers. Finalize the games to be played at the gate. Look at the bride get ready, take photos.
9.30am: Get ready. Groom arriving anytime!
9.40am: Groom and brothers arrived. We closed the wooden door and put a 'Welcome. Please knock' sign outside. So, they knocked and we slip a paper that says S$2312.06 under the door. 1 angpao came back, with the paper that says $23.12. Then, we stuck back the paper and got 2 more angpaos. Finally opened the door and the haggling began! Asked the groom to read a love pledge in english and chinese. To show his sincerity and stick to his promise, he and his brothers had to eat breakfast made by us! Sandwich filled with assam paste (suan), peanut butter (tian), bittergourd pulp (ku), sambal belachan and wasabi (la). Groom had to eat half of the sandwich, and each of the 5 brothers eats a quarter. Then, we treated them to bittergourd juice which wasn't that bad lah... They were quite funny to do a 'yam seng' outside. Again, we ask for more angpaos. Then passed him a piece of paper and asked him to identify yiwen's lipstick mark out of 10 kisses. After that, we asked him to identify all the jie meis and when we knew yiwen. Counted a slight challenge to him cause he didn't meet 2 of them before and he has only seen the rest of us a couple times. After a few more angpaos, we let him in. Partially, cause there wasn't enough time too.. About 9.55am liao.
10.20am: Leave bride's house.
11am: Reach groom's house. Tea ceremony followed by buffet lunch. So glad we can at least rest and relax a little.
12.15pm: Leave groom's house.
12.45pm: Reach bride's house. Tea ceremony and lunch again. Ate a bit more to last till the night. In the meantime, the jie meis always had to look out for the bride, like get food and drinks for her. Oil blotters, make sure she's ok.. That's why we're called jie meis.
1.45pm: Leave bride's house to the couple's new love nest.
2.15pm: Reach love nest and really relax in the house. Really really nice and peaceful with only 12 of us (wedding couple, 5 jie meis and 5 xiong dis).
2.45pm: Leave love nest for hotel
3.15pm: Reach hotel and unload stuff from the cars into the hotel room. Didn't have time to relax liao. Straight away took out the laptop and started loading all the photos and videos from the morning. Had to edit a short clip from the videos and load it with some photos into an existing slideshow. This took really long cause the loading took quite a while. Followed by the video editing. Only finished editing at 5.30pm or so before I could insert everything into the powerpoint. In the meanwhile, 3 jie meis were in the room while the bride was getting ready. So 3 of us had to take turns to go change and get ready at 4+pm, while one would be busy editing.
6pm: 1 jie mei went down to rehearse at mc. 1 jie mei and I finally managed to finish the slideshow. Rushed down with the laptop to the ballroom to test the system. Rushed back to the room to pack stuff, get handbag and rushed back down with everyone else to the lounge for solemnization ceremony.
7pm: After the solemnization, I went to take over my shift as receptionist.
8pm: Finally finished my shift. Went to sit down at the table and officially relax.
9+pm: Played wrong slideshow! Miscommunication ba. The guy opened the wrong slideshow in the laptop. Had to run over and select the correct one.
11+pm: Dinner's over!! Called cab and go home...

So, for those who think that wedding's an easy thing... Drop that thought!

Tips: Get good jie meis and xiong dis who can help you throughout the day, be it packing stuff, loading and unloading the correct things, doing slideshow, mc, receptionist, etc...

Now, everyone can relax and wen can enjoy her life as Mrs Wong. =)

Weekend@Sentosa

Ok, for those who read my gastric flu entries, I'm ok! Actually I kind of recovered on fri evening. Or at least I didn't puke from then on... I feel lucky, especially after friends told me that they had gastric flu for 2 weeks...

On Sat, I decided to take my chances and headed to Sentosa chalet in the afternoon. One day later is better than nothing, so I thought.. Anyway, I had 2 chalets on-going. One was with friends at costa sands. Another was booke by my family and some relatives were coming.

Sat was supposed to be with friends. Walked along the beach, took my first skyride and luge ride!! For those who don't know, taking the skyride means you sit on a bench that brings you up the hill. It was nice to look at the beach from high up there. Wished I could see more though, cause my back was facing the beach. Had to keep turning my head to see the scenery. The lug was a go-kart like thingy.. Easy to operate cause you just pull the handle back to stop, move slightly forward to go and turn left and right. It was fun to accelerate down the slope! Of course, I wouldn't just do it again and gain, but it was enough..

Went to Sakae Sushi with them along Siloso beach. It wasn't fun!!! *sobz* Friends didn't let me see all the raw seafood.. Come on, for those who know me, how many times do I enter a Jap restaurant and not eat raw food!!! Bleahz... So I had my teriyaki chicken set, while I see all of them eat sushi.. =(

Had a nice night of discussion and boardgaming... Feels like a long time since I had a "retreat". Thanks guys!

So now for Sunday! Had to jump over to the family side to show my face. Joined my relatives at Palawan Beach for lunch. After that, we saw a big snake, so we headed there to hold it and take photos with it! Watched a monkey show nearby. Then the older ones headed back to the room, while I brought my sister and 2 cousins to the luge ride. This time, they went up and I was in charge of taking their photos as they are heading down.

Went to try the 4D show too. Can't say it was fantastically great, but well, it's 4D. When the ship moved in the show, there was wind blowing in your face. When something moved, your chair shook. When creatures appeared, some wire near your feet kept swiping and hitting your head. Not forgetting water sprays and air blowing near the neck...

Got to get back to reality...

Gastric flu

Ok... Being on mc ain't that fun from lunch onwards.... Ate not even 5 mouthfuls of fish soup bee hoon and i felt damn sick. Straight away ate my nausea and gastric medicine and went to bed.

Woke up 1+ hour later, still feeling sick. It always feels better after u puke, so that's what i did. Then I went back to sleep till now... Sianz, I wanna eat...

Just sucked 3 small pieces of chocolate.... Drinking some slightly sweet drink. Hopefully all the sugar gets into my body.

My stomach's pretty empty... I feel like I'm on a diet or anorexic..

mc!

My body has spoken.... I'm on mc today!!! =)

Ok, I'm not crazy to like being sick. But it's nice to wake up late and not go to work. Anyway, I think i'm ok now... Had gastric flu last night. Stomach felt weird already but I had to eat dinner or it might get worse. Went for my course at ISS, and in between I decided to go toilet. The moment I stepped in, I wanted to puke.. So my visit to doc and my mc....

So nice to relax and rest... Recharge!!! More work ahead!!

This dec ain't relaxing...

Tiring...

Been some tiring weeks, especially this week. For the past 3 weeks, I had to go for an evening course at NUS on tues and thurs. It's quite tiring because it's not easy to stay awake at the class after a whole day of work. And I have to reach home late twice a week and sleep beyond my normal bedtime..

Quite tiring at work too. Usually december is suppoesd to be a 'low' period where work is minimized. Projects should have ended by dec. However, this dec seems to be different. Some new projects appeared out of nowhere... Oh well... I'm not clearing much leave anyway...

2 more weeks of lessons to go... I really respect those who do part time masters now. Full respect!
