The latest Mac tk is better, but widget rendering, particularly button sizes and behaviour Is still more or less broken. Scidb uses so much tight, small widget packing, i don't think an osx port is feasible,/doable IMHO. >> CQL is a nice play of words on the well known SQL (Structured Query >> Language) and i like keeping it. I don't know another database application than ChessAssistant which provides CQL 3.1. About porting to MaxOSX: firstly Scidb will be ported to Windoze, but not before the alpha version has been released. Because of some recent fixes in Tk library concerning MaxOSX it might be possible to port it also to Mac. But it takes some time until the alpha version will be released. > CQL is a nice play of words on the well known SQL (Structured Query > Language) and i like keeping it. But maybe renaming it will help > differentiate Gregor's implementation from the original ? The point is that Scidb's design will be quite different from current CQL 5.0, so I think that a different name like ChessQuery is required. It's a bit unluckily that the term CQL is already taken. And the term eCQL - used in my current documentation of ChessQuery - is not very satisfactory for me. > Maybe Gregor will port CQL to Scid vs PC one day ?? Porting ChessQuery to Scid vs PC would be a very costly task, because Scidb's implementation is based on Bitboards, and Scid vs PC don't has a Bitboard. But it is possible to convert between CQL 3.1 and ChessQuery, because CQL 3.1 is a subset of ChessQuery (concerning the functionality). And Lionel has announced to release a CQL port (based on 3.1?) in Scid vs PC. Gregor |

I'm in the process of porting Lewis Stiller's and Gady Costeff's CQL implementation to Scidvspc as a fully integrated search engine. It's a fairly trivial port, thanks to S&C's decision to build the app around Scid's Game:: and Position:: infrastructure, and is about halfway complete at this point after a couple of part time weeks hacking at it. The standalone cql executable is presently fully functional and tested for correctness, having been compiled and built against Scid-native headers and Scid-native objects. That was the hard part... the rest (integration with the tkscid exec and with a raw UI widget) is more or less a cake walk. I hope to have a patch ready by Thanksgiving (if my cell phone will stop ringing), which I'll announce on the vspc list. -- Lionel |

Scidb may never be ported to OS X because of the Mac's poor TCL implementaion, but Scid vs PC / Mac already has a command line interface built-in. Maybe Gregor will port CQL to Scid vs PC one day ?? as I thought i heard him mention it once. > BTW: I think that a different name like ChessQuery - instead of eCQL - is better, so I'm planning to rename it. CQL is a nice play of words on the well known SQL (Structured Query Language) and i like keeping it. But maybe renaming it will help differentiate Gregor's implementation from the original ? Hi Gregor, thank you. Where do I come from? How I told you, currently I use chess assistant with CQL. Now a friend with OSX asked me if I know a chess database with CQL capability for OSX. I don't know... To speak frankly: I only know this CQL-version from chess assistant and this standalone version for windows. I think chessbase did not come with a CQL-interface. Do you know another chess database which has this feature (may be even running on OSX)? Thomas > Gregor Cramer <re...@gm...> hat am 27. Where is it hidden? Currently only the documentation is available, it is not yet implemented, and planned for a future version. But the current documentation is not contemporary, a revised CQL version is in development, see http://sourceforge.net/p/scidb/mailman/scidb-development/ . But some basic parts - about 70% - of (old) CQL functions are already implemented, and will also be usable for the revised CQL interface. BTW: I think that a different name like ChessQuery - instead of eCQL - is better, so I'm planning to rename it. Gregor |

Hi, I use CQL from chess assistant currently. However is there a command line interface for your CQL-implementation? I'm on linux and can compile it by myself. I also also did not found a button etc. in the GUI for usage of the CQL-position search. Where is it hidden? Thanks Thomas -- http://imkerei.randspringer.de |
