In revision r906 I've implemented a feature request: write support of PGN files. This feature requires testing. Note that a PGN must be set writeable before it can be modified. This feature facilitates the exchange of chess games via PGN files, because different users may use different chess applications. But keep in mind that the PGN format is not fully supporting all the features of Scidb's format (nor the features of ChessBase format). If you export a database from .sci to .pgn, the PGN file in general will not have the same structure, the PGN format is limited concerning the handling of comments. If you want that an exported PGN is a 1:1 mapping of the .sci database (or ChessBase database), you have to use the PGN option "Use Scidb import format", but in general only Scidb is fully understanding the resulting PGN file, although any chess application should open this file without errors. Cheers, Gregor |

I've released revision #901. In this revision the requirements of freedesktop.org are implemented: - An entry "Games"->"Board Games"->"Scidb" in the desktop menu will be created. - All supported file types of Scidb now are associated to this application, this means you can open a database via file managers (like Nautilus or Dolphin). Furthermore Scidb is providing icons for all file types: .sci, .scv, .si4, .si3, .cbh, .cbf, .pgn, .pgn.gz. Currently one exception is .zip, I'm not sure if this file type should be associated, although Scidb is supporting this file type. In Scidb's file selection box a zip file will be listed only if it contains at least one PGN file. A normal file manager does not offer this feature. A technical note: for this feature I've introduced some new mime types: .sci <-> x-chess-scidb .scv <-> x-chess-archive .si4 <-> x-chess-scid4 .si3 <-> x-chess-scid3 .cbh <-> x-chess-chessbase .cbf <-> x-chess-chessbasedos .pgn.gz <-> x-chess-gzpgn The mime type x-chess-pgn (associated with .pgn) is already part of the standard. - "Main Menu"->"Extras"->"Assign File Types" will open a dialog which allows to set Scidb as the default application for any supported file type. In file managers the default application will be listed at first position, or as an extra menu entry. This dialog needs testing, I don't know if this works on any system. Note that this feature is working only if your desktop is conform to the freedesktop.org specification. Currently this is: KDE, GNOME, and Xfce (probably some more?). Cheers, Gregor |

Scidb's repository has just reappeared, so checkout of newest version r880 is possible. Please don't forget that the repository URL has changed some weeks ago, see <http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=trinity-6aa7a981-c73c-45b3-af9c-2186f39e975f-1370344708229%403capp-gmx-bs39&forum_name=scidb-users> how to switch the repository URL. |

Scidb's repository has just disappeared, it is not possible to checkout the current source. Please wait with "svn update" until I inform about the new status. The official announcement from Soureforge: ------------------------------------------ There’s an outage for the Project web space and code repositories. Our teams are investigating and working to get this restored as soon as we can. Until this is restored, project code browsers will show an “empty” message. We’ll update this as this is resolved. Best Regards, Chris Tsai, SourceForge.net Support |
