Abstract
975,556. Mineral-mining machines. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. March 28, 1961 [March 28, 1960], No. 10881/60. Addition to 800,864. Heading E1F. The cutter head of the mineral-mining machine of the parent Specification is replaced by a head in which the cutters comprise a plurality of rotary borer cutters 33, 34, 35 arranged to make overlapping cuts in front of the head. The cutters, preferably three, rotate about parallel axes on shafts projecting from the front of the gear and motor housing 10-15 of the head. The central cutter 33 preferably operates ahead of the other cutters and is disposed in advance of a scraper shoe 26 forming the nose of the trunking of a conveyer 28 extending back through the gear head. Longitudinally extending skids 16 pivotally secured to the underside of the head and to jacks 20 secured to the rear of the head allow of tilting of the head. Roof cutters 23 are mounted on vertically extending jacks incorporated in the head. Breakers 36 on a disc 38 secured on the rear of the cutter 33 break up any large lumps of mined mineral passing rearwards along the conveyer.
