Abstract

1,079,274. Mineral-mining equipment. GEWERKSCHAFT EISENHUTTE WESTFALIA. April 7, 1965 [April 8, 1964], No. 14722/65. Heading E1F. A mineral-mining machine comprises a lower cutter 40 working by a stripping action and guided on a conveyor channel, and an upper, cutter-wheel 12 which is movable in a substantially vertical axis on a horizontal spindle on an arm 42 by a hydraulic piston and cylinder 18, the cutter-wheel being mounted on a carrier 15 of gantry or cantilever construction for extension over the conveyor 2. The carrier may be mounted on the conveyor on the goaf side and be movable by its own traction means independently of the cutter 40 along the coal face. The arm 42 may be pivotable to a position where the cutter wheel 12 engages coal at the base of the conveyor on the coal face side, to enable it to clear packed coal which cannot be cleared by the stripping cutter 40 and water may be axially supplied to the cutters of the wheel 12 through a rotatable couplto the end of wheel shaft remote from the wheel. An additional rotary cutting tool 41 may be mounted on an extension of the drive shaft of the wheel 12.
