Although it’s largely been ignored since late 2023, the Gaza breakout squads did quite well against their military targets, in particular executing some quite senior officers.

In spite of everything that’s happened, the world is far more sympathetic to the cause of Palestinian self-determination and much more opposed to Zionism than at any time in the history of the conflict. The value of this cannot be underestimated, even while Hamas appears to teeter on the edge. Now, there is no good excuse to continue decimating Gaza, and the world will be paying close attention to how the latest developments play out.

Rest assured, if Trump takes the usual course of action — and, of a certainty, he can’t be trusted — the Palestinian resistance (under whatever name it exists) will not go gentle into that good night, hostage leverage or not.
