New Diminutive Troops.

Before I start this post proper, I'd like to say welcome to the newest follower of Inso's World; Herr Zinnling.  I hope you find things to keep you interested and make sure you comment if you feel the need and share any ideas.

So... in a couple of weekend's time, it will be Salute and as a result, many miniatures manufacturers are pushing to release lots of new stuff. That is a double edged sword because they hold off releasing stuff for a little while before Salute and then release far too much cool stuff for me to be able to buy!

So... what the heck am I going on about? Well, there is the powered armour from Hasslefree Miniatures for a start. That will break the bank. Then there are a few bits and bobs from Twilight Miniatures that I like but what has just turned up is out of the blue.

Heresy Miniatures have just released the Sharclon:

The top one is a standard trooper and the bottom one is an officer. What immediately jumped out at me was how good they would be as enemies for my Grymn. They appear to be quite evil looking and with the right paint-job would be ideal for the job. They are just taller than a Grymn and are much more bulky so they would be worthy opponents. I liked them so much, I couldn't help putting an order in for a small unit of five... so I hope they arrive soon.

In other news, I am off to London tomorrow for an entertaining day choosing a prom dress for my daughter.

Wish me luck!

See you from the platform!

A momentous event...

I was going to hold off on this until I had the time to take a big picture but I am so glad to have these finished that I couldn't wait...so here are two BIG pix of my eleven FINISHED mechs:

Click the 'BIG' Pics!

The completion of the mechs takes me another step closer to finishing the Tunnel Fighter army and I am very pleased to have finished them so early in the holiday.  To finish the army properly, I have to finish off the miscellaneous squad, 4 transports (one each for the medics, drones, K9 unit and misc squad) and 15 Clankers (that will take them to a total of 21).  In reality, if I finish off three transports then the army will be fully mechanised (so far) and I can do the rest in slow time.

I am just SO pleased.

I had one of my nights last night and was up until 02:15 so I was always going to be tired...but my lovely wife and I were walking around Tesco at 07:25 so I am a bit worse for wear today.  On the plus side, I found a couple of interesting Matchbox vehicles that will be joining a future project...but that is for another time.

My parcel filled with Twilight miniatures arrived yesterday and I am REALLY impressed with them.  I will be showing them off some time in the near future and have decided that they will be remaining in the fantasy genre...well, my Dwarfs will need someone to trade with, after all.

I have started converting my Ferrus miniature and have been glad to discover that both of his arms are separate from his body so I don't have to chop them off...which is always handy.

I just can't switch off...

...and the voices won't stop going on about bleeping drop-ships...

See you from the waiting room!

NEWS FLASH!!!

I have just been pottering around the forums (Frothers...be warned, it is a sweary place) and have seen something that made me go straight to the linked page and buy them! These are Dhogu from the World of Twilight range of miniatures and they ROCK!:

There are a limited amount of pre-release miniatures available from Pyre Studios and I was so impressed with them that I bought a patrol straight away.

Excellent stuff!

I just thought I'd share.

See you from the time machine!

Sunday and a day of travels.

I've had a great day today. I traveled down to sunny Somerset to visit my family and enjoyed my time thoroughly. The only downer was the three hour drive either way, in rather icy conditions but I took it slowly and never had any problems.

So I guess you'd be expecting no update then? Well think again. First is the finished prototype Grymn Cavalry trooper:

As a result of some of the constructive feedback I have received on the Forum of Doom, I will try to bend the knees a bit on the next one. He'll also be getting an SMG rather than a plasma rifle.

Next up is the first of two heavy weapon Cavalry troopers. It is a Baruk and it is still very WIP at the moment:

You will have probably noticed that the riders are the same. That is due to them being the right pose for what I want. I will be removing heads and converting them to be individual...so don't worry :). I have a long way to go on the Heavy. I need to add pouches, ammo boxes and possibly an ammo feed (haven't decided whether to have an ammo feed or box magazine...). I also need to convert the rider properly and finish the weapon support.

On the plus side, I have decided to have these as part of my desert veteran army. I think they will go particularly well with the veterans as they are all mounted in armoured walking APCs (Tiger APC from the Void range). I will save the bikes I am planning for the urban or temperate armies I have instead ;).

Well, that is about it for tonight. I doubt if I'll be doing too much tomorrow as I have been drinking Red Bull on the journey (to stave off tiredness whilst driving) so I doubt if I'll be doing much sleeping tonight...

See you through some bleary eyes!

Friday...and it's all gone white!?

Oh the joys of the British weather are a wonder to behold. I went to bed and outside was just as you'd expect of a normal day...everything in colour (although, at that time of night it was mostly dark). I woke up this morning and something weird had happened...all the colour was gone and everything had turned white!...Yes, the snow has hit and due to having a huge depth of the white stuff (a whole inch of snow!...I know...it was terrible to see! The whole world came to a standstill!), I did the Dad thing and kept the children at home. The real reason was they were only due to go for a morning and there had been an accident near to the school which was causing a huge amount of traffic delay...so by the time they would have got there, they would have been coming home again.

So...snow + children =...

..."it's too cold outside and it's the wrong sort of snow so can we build with Lego all day instead?"

I remember...back in the day...we used to rush outside at the slightest hint of snow and stay outside until frostbite took the ends off our noses! And even then, we'd just put some Savlon on and stay out until our fingers were stumps...we'd end up dragging ourselves across the floor with blackened, shriveled, stumps ONLY when we had built a snowman that was as big as the snow would allow...I don't know...the children of today, they just don't know what's good for them ;).

So...distractions, distractions, distractions...

I have a whole lot of stuff going on that I shouldn't have.

I have ten sci-fi adventurers undercoated and sat on my painting table. They are a selection of miniatures from Hasslefree Miniatures and I'm sure that there will be some pix when I get to a point where they are worth showing.

I have also added a wash to the Belog's skin...not a lot, I know but it IS something so it can't be all bad.

I have assembled 2 Baruk, 1 unbridled Enuk and 7 bridled Enuks. They are all from Hasslefree Miniatures (again) and they are part of the Twilight range. What are they for? Well...they are for some Grymn cavalry. Speaking of which, I have a prototype almost ready for a photo-call!...I have been busy chopping, pinning and sculpting a suitable Grymn and he actually suits things really well...

I still need to clean all of the cavalry mounts of flash...but it is a start and now that they are all firmly secured to their bases, they are easier to control while sculpting/cleaning.

I have tried out my shiny new mitre block and tenon saw and it works well enough on the dowel I have for my tank wheels...which is nice.

So...that's it for now! I'm sure I'll have something to show off by Sunday!

See you through the snow-storm.

SHHHH...you ain't seen this; right?:

Monday...and something different AGAIN!

Unless you are new to my world, you will know by now that I tend to be a little...fickle?

I am fairly easily distracted and change my mind on an extremely regular basis... and tonight would be no exception.

As a result of an interesting E-mail I received, I have been spurred into action and have finally plucked up the courage to paint this awesome beast:

Click the Pic!

The miniature is an Ogre sized miniature sculpted by Mike Thorpe for his Twilight range of miniatures. The miniature will be available here in the near future:

http://www.hasslefreeminiatures.co.uk/range.php?range_id=64

There is a bit of history to this miniature.

A couple of years ago, I went to Salute in London. Salute is a big gaming and miniatures event that a lot of people go to. A few people from the forum of Doom decided to meet up for a chat and I met quite a few new people. That was where I met Mike who, from out of nowhere, produced a small plastic box filled with some of his sculpts. I took one look at the partially complete Belog and was instantly hooked and demanded that he got it cast so that I could buy it! Now I'd like to think it was my fault that Twilight turned up as a result of my demands...but it was already well into the later development stages by then and it was inevitable that the range would become available...quality sells after all.

I was offered the chance to get the Belog a little early and after I assembled him, I was quite intimidated by the prospect of painting him after waiting 2 years for him to arrive...so it is a big thing for me to be painting him today.

I just hope that I do the sculpt justice!

To change the subject...

I have finished re-painting the feet on all of my Urban Grymn that I re-based...so I can put them away and concentrate on other things again!

Yay!

See you through the purple haze dudes!

Saturday and a small amount of news...

Well Inso has been in touch and has said that feedback is good. He has carried out a few minor modifications to the Fubarnii and is much happier with it. The reason the changes were made was because of feedback from the FoD. So here is a pic of the Fubarnii knight with a bit of dark-lining between rider and mount and an additional; layer of highlight on the mount:

Inso thinks the changes are for the better...are they?

He also tells me that he has started work on a Noblin called Hurk from Spyglass Miniatures. He is remaining silent on the paint-scheme at the moment but has mentioned that the Noblin is based and undercoated ready to start.

There is also a tiny bit of news on the conversion front today. A while back, Inso bought a Tyranid starter box from Games Workshop and had a few miniatures left over. The left overs were Gene-Stealers and last night Inso started converting one into something a bit different. Again, he isn't saying too much so I guess we'll just have to wait and see what he comes up with.

Catch you later!

Thursday.

I know that there are a few less posts at the moment but that is the nature of life sometimes. I will say that although Inso is dealing with a lot of real-life 'STUFF' at the moment, he is also slowly ticking along with the hobby side of things as well.

As was mentioned in an earlier post, Inso received 10 miniatures (Fubaarni) from a guy called Carcharoth from the Forum of Doom. They were a gift and were extremely well received, I can tell you. Well, on Inso's return he said that they would be the first ones to get his attention and indeed, he assembled one completely and based the other 9 ready for assembly as soon as his painting things were back on the table. While this was going on, he painted the Atom but the drive was still to get at least one of the Fubaarni finished as soon as possible. Well, he's only gone and finished one. He has deliberately gone for very subtle highlighting and a bright colour scheme...so here are a few pix with the ATOM for scale:

As you can see, it is something completely different! There will be a few conversions coming along for these as Inso received two lots of five identical miniatures (5 have shields the other 5 don't). There will be a few rifles and a bunch of equipment added to some of them and others may receive other stuff as well (cloaks, helmet plumes...even whiskers!).

I hope you like him!

Catch you later.
