Hurry up and wait.

Hello and welcome to Inso's World again.

It has been a varied week and as a result, hobby time has stalled somewhat. In fact, all I have achieved is to assemble a few more Aerial Drones for my Demiurg Air Guild, prime them and slap a very rough base-coat on them.

In other hobby news, I decided to see if I could sculpt something... and haven't got anywhere.

It doesn't help when you come up with a good back story and are enthusiastic about something... and then a few people get all 'button counter' on you and discourage the idea. Bearing in mind that I sculpt stuff for science-FICTION, it beggars belief.

To say that it has had a negative impact on something which I am really struggling to get back into, would be an understatement. As a result... I started sculpting, got completely discouraged, questioned why I bothered and stopped completely. My view is that people are always so keen to rip things apart but rarely put the same effort into encouragement and finding reasons why things should be done.

Anyway... moaning aside... Shoulder pain has been a bit of a thing this week and I needed to take some medication for it. That wiped out Tuesday. Also a bit of Thursday... but not too much.

Sleep has been a treasured commodity and I have struggled to get any motivation this week as a result. That said, on Monday, I popped into my new work-place to hand in documentations and the process for my DBS clearance started. Since then, I have had an email (yesterday) saying that the checks were complete and the certificate is on the way... so I should have the certificate very soon. Once I take it in to the Care Home, they will be looking to get me working; shadowing staff until I can get my courses done and then properly working from then on. As I have mentioned to my friends, it seems that fate is really keen to get me working.

On Monday, I also got some Marie Curie work done. I did some money counting and banking and had a nice chat with the committee chairwoman. There was also a meeting on Thursday so I got to meet a few more of the committee members... and they were all decent people so that was nice. I have a few extra chores to sort out now but I am getting there with the admin side of things now and am properly taking an active role in the charity.

Wednesday was a day with my missus and we pottered about and sorted a few things (as usual).

Then... along came Friday and I decided to go for a nice ride on my motorbike, over to Marazion and seeing as I haven't shown any decent pix of my bike since the screen was fitted, here's some now:

That's about it for this week. I know it's been a bit of a moan but lack of sleep, chronic pain and the 'negative waves' from strangers can do that sometimes.

See you from the grindstone!

Another week of summer.

Hello and welcome to another Sunday in Inso's World.

This week has been a rather lack-lustre one because my sleep patterns have been shot so I haven't managed to do a lot of what I wanted to.

The weather has been up and down so I have had to tailor what I did, to fit in with the weather as well.

During this week, I have had issues with debit cards (could have been embarrassing if I didn't have alternative ways to pay) and also the tourists have arrived in vast numbers so crowds of people and clogged roads are now a major part of life in Cornwall.

Yesterday, I was up at 3am and at 4am, I drove my missus up to visit with family six hours away. we had a great time and I drove back later in the day so it was a long, tiring day. Thankfully, I had Red Bull to keep me on my toes.

In the hobby news, I have finished the Engineseer unit:

I haven't edge-highlighted them because I am tired and it would have taken ages (I have so many miniatures to paint!) so I have just base-coated, washed and re base-coated them... with highlights applied to very limited areas (like the Guilds-man's face).

From the top we have Jecub 'sure-grip' Mikkelson, Freya, Thor, Tyr and Loki. They are an Engineer Guilds-man with four helper robots but they count as a Techpriest Engineseer with four servitors. As was mentioned in the last post, they will be travelling in the Chimera and will be part of the Spearhead Detachment.

With this unit complete, I decided to dig something else out so what better than a nice simple unit of Halfling Snipers. Rather than go green, I decided to tie them into their bases a bit better and go for a mix of browns. It's very early days yet... but here is the unit so far (first they were primed and then base-coating was started):

Obviously, there is a long way to go but every journey starts with a first step.

That's it for this week. In the coming week, I will be collecting a fourth Toon Tank from the post office (so I will have a platoon's worth of Chimeras to work on) but will be working on the Halflings (this unit is attached to the first platoon so once they are done, I'll crack on with the Chimeras for the platoon as well)..

In other news, I have a couple of meetings with Marie Curie this week so I will be getting my teeth in to what is required of me as part of the committee. I have my wife with me for a couple of days because she has holiday so we will be going out and about. I also need to get a few bits of admin sorted... assuming that I get some sleep at some point!

See you from the queue!

Indicators on...

Hello and welcome to Inso's World on yet another glorious, sunny, day.

This week has had a few 'life' adventures with a bit of family visiting and other things going on.

First up, my motorcycle has had its first service and the screen that it should have originally arrived with, has now been fitted:

Next up is something that I have been working on in the background. Over the last few weeks, I have been in touch with the local wing of the Marie Curie charity and have applied to become a committee member of the Helston/Lizard branch. This week I sorted out my application, it was accepted and I am now part of the Marie Curie club. I even have a new ID card to go with it:

I am rather happy with being accepted and hope to meet the rest of the committee at the beginning of next month. It will not only wake me up a bit but it has also ticked off one of the items on my "leaving the RAF and moving to Cornwall" list. The only thing remaining is to get a job and I am looking into that as well.

On to the hobby and this week I have finished the Platoon Commander for the Battle-Cannon tanks:

Obviously, I still need to apply decals but as I have mentioned before, they will be applied when the whole company is finished. With that said, I have also started work on the Company Commander but have stalled somewhat. I have added speakers and a flagpole to her turret and have got as far as sculpting her padded torso but that's it. The ideas for her have sort of run dry and the weight of other ideas has meant that I have needed to "scratch an itch" and change direction a bit...

... so I have ordered another King Tiger kit to play with; this time to try and make a simple conversion into a proxy Chimera. I wasn't expecting the kit until Monday but it turned up yesterday so I have already been tinkering and so far, it looks like this:

All I have done is remove any details that were sticking proud of the surface and have added the basic shape of the passenger cabin. The hole at the front is for a small turret.

Looking at the image, I plan to use the top hatches from the turret as hatches for the driver and "machine-gunner", with a vent/grill panel between them. There will be an engine panel on the front of the hull and the "machine-gun" mount will be fitted in the same place as it is on the other tanks. On the top of the passenger cabin, I will be placing a round top-hatch, six periscope viewers and a small, automated turret with the main weapon attached. On the rear of the hull, there will be a large ramp for accessing the passenger cabin. On the sides of the cabin will be six gun ports. Various details will be added and a lot of them will come from the components of the kit so I don't have to find them elsewhere.

So far, the conversion hasn't been too onerous so I am hoping that when I need to replicate the design, it shouldn't be too difficult... but it's early days yet.

That's it for this week. In the coming week, I hope to get the Company Commander sculpted and possibly, finish off the first of the Chimera conversions... we shall see, I guess.

See you from the road, man!
