Before I start, I'd like to welcome JWP to Inso's World. Unfortunately, not too much of an update today...but if you look through older posts, I hope you find something of interest :).
So...the world didn't suffer the Rapture yesterday. I wasn't confident that we would get a Rapture but you never know...it may have all been true!
So I guess this is 'welcome to the rest of your life'!
It has been a bit of an odd week this week. I have managed to prolong my head-cold so I have been coughing and spluttering a lot...which means that I didn't really achieve much. Mind you, that doesn't mean I achieved NOTHING...just not as much as I would have liked.
I have managed to finish painting the officer for my Kindred but haven't started basing any of them yet so I don't really want to show him off yet. I have ticked along slowly on the Judges and have started adding green-stuff here and there. I still have a way to go but at least I have started. I have partially assembled a small flier and am in the process of 'technically-adjusting' the cockpit. Finally, I have started to sculpt another miniature. I am not saying anything about it at this time but will be happy to show it off once it is finished as long as it turns out how I want.
In addition to the little bits and bobs I have been getting on with, I have also ordered another three of the Kryomek tanks for the Tunnel Fighters. That will be enough to transport all of the close combat units. I have some alternative turrets so I am likely to equip the standard APCs (when I order them) with mini-rocket turrets instead of guns...but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
I really hate it when I get an idea but don't have the tools/equipment/logistics to do anything about it. I need to get some casting stuff sorted out soon. Not being able to cast stuff is getting on my nerves and it is only a matter of time before I feel morally obliged to get hold of casting rubber, resin and lots of Lego to act as the casting frames. Lego would also be good for building up regular shapes as a base for what I want to build...
Well...that is the end a pretty uneventful post. Hopefully, the next one will be a bit more interesting.
See you over the garden wall!

Yet another distraction...
There comes a time where I really need to say to myself 'FOCUS!!!'. Alas, it is advice I need to learn to follow because I have been distracted yet again. This time I was looking through posts in a forum and someone asked for advice about whether 1/72 tanks would work with Kindred (Halflings in WWI style uniform). I popped up a scale pic of my previous efforts and was reminded of how cool they were...as a result, I ended up with these:

They are still WIP at the moment but I have base-coated and washed them ready for high-lights. There are 12 there; three little fire-teams of four Kindred. Now that I have got this far with them I have suddenly come to the fearful conclusion that I am going to have a terrible time painting the eyes...but I guess I'll face that hurdle nearer the time.
Seeing as we are on the subject of distractions, I suppose I was already distracted from the main job at hand (Tunnel Fighters) by a new departure into Necromunda territory. I suppose it is only polite to show off my progress so far and without further ado, here are the two elements of my Enforcer gang:

I suppose it is only polite to show off my progress so far and without further ado, here are the two elements of my Enforcer gang:
The top group is the close combat element witha Ronin APC and a cyber-mastiff. The cyber mastiff is one of the dogs from the GW LotR range 'Farmer Maggot' pack. I have drilled out the shoulders and an eye and inserted some tiny ball-bearings. The rest of the squad have had a few head-swaps, some power-mauls made out of Grymn power axes and also have shields from the Hasslefree range (can't remember which part of the range).
The lower group is the heavier part of the group with an old Ground Zero Games anti-grav vehicle (you can now buy these from Daemonscape on E-Bay). Again there are a few head-swaps but apart from that nothing more.
What all that means is that I have finished all the cutting and pinning part of the conversions and now need to crack open the green-stuff and get sculpting. Unfortunately, I have had a head-cold this week and I have been quite happy ticking along with a bit of base-coating but sculpting has left me cold...hence the Kindred got some paint.
I haven't really got much more done this week. I did, however, knock up an Excel version of the Necromunda gang roster sheet so that I could use copy and paste to fill it in and I now have a lovely sheet filled with Enforcer information. At some point (once I have a gang to show off properly) I will scan it into the computer so I can stick it on photobucket and show it off here.
I think that is about it for now. I hope to make some progress this week but I can't promise anything as I am still feeling a bit rubbish.
See you through bleary eyes!

Bandits; Angels High!
Is it Wednesday already? These weird shifts I'm on at work make me lose all track of what day it is.
This is a bit of a change because it is (strangely enough) something I've wanted to do for a very long time but never had the excuse until now. What am I talking about? WWI aeroplanes, that's what.
As you know, I have recently bought a bunch of tanks for a small contingent of Kindred (available from Hasslefree miniatures) and it got me thinking about what else I could use in the little force. Well, what tank platoon would be without scouts and spotters to make sure the road was clear ahead or warn of what strength the enemy has? That thought gave me the perfect excuse for a little air-power in the form of a WWI aeroplane (or two).
First thing first, to buy the kit and in this case it was a 1/72nd scale S.E.5a from Revell. All I needed to do was bulk up the pilot a bit and he was the perfect size for a Kindred (shown to scale...with a Kindred Officer):
Click the Pic!
The pilot was complete but then I had to build the aircraft and I suddenly realised just why I hadn't bought too many WWI aircraft before...they are a pain to put together (what with having fiddly little spindles to keep the wings in place)...so after assembling the thing (NO! I am not putting any support cables on the wings...if I did the thing would probably learn how to fly VERY QUICKLY!!!), I have started to base coat it...this is still WIP but you get the idea of what it will look like:

The colours are what the box art was displaying so I thought I'd just stick with it. It will have RAF roundels on it and will be very much part of the force.
If I buy more aircraft, I will not buy all of the same type because I will be going for a 'flying circus' feel...that way, all of the pilots can be aces and have special rules (for whatever system I eventually choose)...
TALLY HO!
FINALLY, I have further news of the Diver. Check out this post on the Forum of Doom:

***Thanks to Kev and Sally's generosity and Inso's sculpting skill I have a Limited master casting of The Dwarven Deep Sea Diver from Insomniac Miniatures now available for sale, I will be selling 20 copies of this and 100% of the proceeds will go to a veteran's charity of Inso's choice.
All you need to do is send me money, cost is £5.50 plus £1 P&P. Send me cash via paypal gi6ers (at) hotmail.com, please also add your forum username and your address etc.
£5.50 is a minimum payment, if you feel that the miniature and cause are worth more then just send me what you think it's worth.

Small...but beautifully formed!
Welcome to another Sunday update. Before I start, I'd like to welcome John Lambshead; our latest follower. Welcome John and I hope you enjoy your stay.
I've not got as many tunnel fighters finished as I would have liked this week. I have only managed to assemble and paint 3 and here they are:
Click the Pic!
The reason there are only three of them is because I have run out of Grymn to convert! I have another bunch on the way from Hasslefree Miniatures so it won't be long before I am back in the saddle. Of the three above, two were used to complete the squad shown below:
Click the Pic!
The miniatures in the pic are Kindred; available from Hasslefree Miniatures and the tank is still WIP. To give you an idea of how tall they are, they are mounted on 20mm round bases (not the usual 25mm ones) and they are about 2mm shorter than a Grymn.
Back to the tanks...I bought 5 boxes; a total of ten tanks! all for the princely sum of £15-00! I will end up with a command tank, three tanks with flame-throwers and six tanks with the standard armament. They will be supported by the Kindred; of which I currently own twelve...that will have to change!
On top of everything else, I have bought a few strips of shaped plastic to continue building up the defense robots and have been successful on a few E-Bay bids...not to mention a rather special pre-order that will remain secret until I have them in my hand and assembled...watch this space!
See you through the twitching curtains!

So I now have forty four Grymn tunnel fighters painted, with at least another ten to go. I reckon that once the new Grymn arrive, I'll have to knuckle down to get them finished before I am distracted by my latest little diversion...
...Speaking of diversions, I was in town on Saturday and happened across some 1/72 scale tanks on special offer. The kits were half price and each box held two models...I thought that they would be perfect for some of the smaller miniatures I own...see what you think:

Lobster bites back!
The plan was for Inso to start painting his Grymn tonight. It didn't quite work out like that. After defrosting a couple of lobsters, he set to work removing the meat...only to slice open his thumb and finger in the process. He was a bit disappointed and has drunk lots of mead to make up for it. There will be no pix for the foreseeable future, I guess.
In order to make amends for his silly accident, he has started planning the next army and now has a concrete idea of what minis will be used.
The command squad will all have auto-guns apart from the Captain; he will have a pistol and power weapon. The command platoon will be the command squad and an attached heavy weapon squad with auto-cannons.
There will be two squads of five Grenadiers. each squad will include a veteran sgt and a grenade launcher.
There will be a veteran squad of seven which will be made up of the Vanir.
There will be a squad of 10 Ratling snipers that will be made up of Hasslefree Miniature's Kindred.
There will be a Sentinel Sqn of three; made up of three Vulkan battle-suits with a weapon swap.
Inso has looked through his bits-box and has decided that some will have helmets and some will have Arabic-style wraps around their heads (due to not having enough close-combat Grymn helmets). Comm-links are unlikely as well. The cavalry will not be used for this project but elements may find a way in (the worms, maybe?).
The Doctrines are currently:
Grenadiers
Special Equipment: Carapace Armour.
Restricted Troops: Ratling Snipers.
There may be two more added; one of which may be Rough-Riders.
Well...that's what has been going on today and I thought it would be nice to finish with a pretty picture so without further ado, here's Libby in rather brightly painted, Powered Armour from Hasslefree Miniatures:

Catch you later!

Another forgotten Friday.
Oops! I went and forgot to post an update again. I swear Friday has an aura around it! I never received any pix or contact from Inso last night so I started playing Wii Sports...four hours later I went to my pit with sore shoulders and a handful of high scores...that's the Wii for you.
So...what can we talk about if there are no updates from Inso? Well, I happen to know that he has been dabbling on E-bay lately and that he has won everything that he bid on. So he has some interesting bits and pieces to play with, on the way through the ether. He has:
A squad of 5 Viridian Marines from Void 1.1 (now sold through Scotia Grendel)
A Tiger APC from Void 1.1 (think AT-AT from Starwars but with shorter legs)
A squad of 3 Vulkan Battle Suits from Warzone (now sold through Prince August)
Add to that the Vanir and the Grymn that he has ordered and the few bits and pieces that arrived from Heresy, then there is a lot of stuff to be getting on with.
From what I understand, the Tiger APC and the Marines will form a unit and three more marines will be added to it (when the dust has settled on all these purchases).
The new Grymn army (that was talked about yesterday) will have the Vulkans as Sentinels, the Vanir as veterans and maybe the cavalry as Rough-riders. Inso has a LOT of unpainted Grymn and from those that he has, he will be making two Grenadier squads and maybe a Command HQ. He also has 10 Kindred which he plans to use as Ratling snipers. Every unit in the army will be converted in some way.
...BUT!...before he starts any of that, he has two weeks leave and during that time, his focus will be his green Grymn army; namely the second squad from the second platoon. After that he has two more squads to paint and he is calling it a day on the troops part of the army. That is a total of 21 troops left to paint (infantry squad-10, command squad-5 and support squad-6)...then there will be tanks but they are for a later time, after his return from the Gulf in July.
I have babbled too much! See you later!
