Dive Bombed

Yesterday it sounded like we were being attacked by a Stuka dive bomber.

During WW II the German Luftwaffe Junkers JU-87 (Stuka) had a propeller device mounted under each wing which put out a high pitch scream when dive bombing.

The intent was to scare the living bejesus out of anyone they were attacking.  Along with the roar of the 1200 hp engine, it was a frightening sound.  All one of the troops on the ground had to do was shout, "STUKA" and everyone knew what was coming next.

A number of modern movies have inserted the sound when planes are crashing.  The Stuka was a one-of-a-kind and wrongly imitated by movie producers.

Even though it was a loud roar yesterday, it wasn't even close to a Stuka.  It was a crop duster buzzing within yards of our rooftop spraying the nice neighbor farmer's corn with insecticide.

I'm not knowledgable on that plane, but the roar of the engine sure sounded every bit of the 1200 hp of the Stuka.

Hot!

The nice neighbor farmer's corn is loving it.  Me, not so much.

Good for tasseling.

Getting shade where they can find it.

A Moocher

This dog has been showing up here on the farm off and on for the past month or so.

It has a collar, so obviously someone's dog and appears to be about 10 or 12 years old.  We've driven the ATV around the neighboring farms and no luck in finding where it is from.

Funny how these critters find a place where there is another old softy to mooch off of.  The name "Old Red" works for now.

Surrounded By Corn

We are surviving the summer heat and humidity here on the farm.

We are surrounded by corn this season.

Likely the nice neighbor farmer is hoping for the best on corn prices this year with the high cost of fuel cutting into his profits.

The cows are doing good, even in the stifling heat.  The light gray in the distance is humidity coming off of the corn.  It is very noticeable around the farm when the surrounding crop is corn.

With yet another strain of Covid on the rise we are staying close to home, with the exception of our weekly trip to town for groceries and any supplies.
