'Medalist' Sequel Movie Announced for 2027

The pre-screening event for the Medalist 2nd Season (Medalist Season 2) at Marunouchi Piccadilly in Tokyo announced a sequel movie on Saturday, scheduled for a 2027 premiere. The event also revealed the key visual for the second season (pictured).

The movie will depict the story following the events in the second season, which will begin airing on January 25 at 1:30 a.m. on TV Asahi's NUMAnimation programming block, followed by CS TV Asahi and BS Asahi.

Produced by animation studio ENGI, the first season adapting Tsurumaikada's figure skating manga aired in Winter 2025. Disney+ streamed the anime worldwide, with Hulu streaming it in the U.S. and later with an English dub.

Monthly Afternoon began serializing the manga in May 2020. Kodansha published the 13th volume last June, with the 14th volume releasing on January 22.

Kodansha USA licensed the manga in English in March 2021 and released the 13th volume digitally on January 13. The 12th physical volume went on sale the same day.

Very nice, they seem really confident about this series.

I wonder if they had this all planned out, or they're frantically capitalizing on the success of Season 1, which was only a year ago.

When I read this got a movie, I immediately thought they might be recapping stuff. Good that isn't the case, and it's a genuine sequel.

Hopefully it being a movie will lead to a reasonable budget that allows for proper animation and not the poor quality the TV series received, with the atrocious CGI scenes.

I was just thinking about Medalist S2 before I went to sleep, and then I wake up to this news... xD

Yeah, it's surprising that a sequel movie has already been announced before the second season begins airing, but I guess it probably means the series is successful.

The second season haven't even aired yet and they already announced a sequel movie is coming.

Anyway, the series is under Disney in the west so the chances of this getting a western release is 0%. Such a shame coz I really love the manga.

Medalist is soo good, everyone should watch it. Surprised that a sequel movie is being announced before this season even starts!? I guess that means the season will end leading into some big competition or something? Exciting stuff, can't wait!
