Jujutsu Kaisen

Idly indulging in baseless paranormal activities with the Occult Club, high schooler Yuuji Itadori spends his days at either the clubroom or the hospital, where he visits his bedridden grandfather. However, this leisurely lifestyle soon takes a turn for the strange when he unknowingly encounters a cursed item. Triggering a chain of supernatural occurrences, Yuuji finds himself suddenly thrust into the world of Curses—dreadful beings formed from human malice and negativity—after swallowing the said item, revealed to be a finger belonging to the demon Sukuna Ryoumen, the King of Curses.

Yuuji experiences first-hand the threat these Curses pose to society as he discovers his own newfound powers. Introduced to the Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School, he begins to walk down a path from which he cannot return—the path of a Jujutsu sorcerer.

One of the most iconic anime at ITS release year and season, both, it does have a reason besides the appeal of its characters to be a hit. The genre can be generally described to be of supernaturality mixed with a slicing into the livelyhoods of regular life, it showcase an array of character backgrounds, fights between humans and the accursed, and just a world of cursed spirits attempting to weave themselves violently into human life and society.

The protagonist, Itadori Yuuji is, as much as he was a vessel for the main villain of the universe of the anime, Sukuna, is also an embodiment of ... an unexpected recruit having to deal with unexpected emergencies resulting to where he standard in the anime throughout the series. Even though this is just the first season, there is already good number of prefaces already set up, such as the reconstruction of Sukuna going along way, the emergence of villains which will not go away soon as demonstrated in the first season already.

As a result, the rating included under this review, for this anime is based on the factors of iconism, setting up of the story, and the plastering of legacy for characters, especially our protagonist Itadori Yuuji.

Mixed Feelings

While I love the later plot of Jujutsu Kaisen, I unfortunately think that the first season is extremly slow and hard to sit through. I love the story but I feel like the first season does not do what comes after any justice to pull viewer's attention. I had rewatched this season three times, each time with a different friend, but every time I got complaints about how boring the story was, forcing me to pull the stereotypical ''It gets better'' move.. I don't think first seasons should ever make you say that in order to put people onto peak.

The second part of the season ... specifically gets painfully slow and fails to point as to why we should ever care for the newly introduced characters. Because of that the Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc just feels like a total filler arc, which of course isn't.

I did enjoy the side plot about Mahito though and I think overall most characters are very well thought out. The animation is amazing.

In my opinion, it's a bad anime that is overhyped. It consists of nothing but action, and I can't give an anime an 8/10 or 9/10 just because it has action.
To summarize:
There is a character named Itadori Yuuji who is a vessel (I won't go into side characters much). Generally, there are specific battles (I won't go into detail or give spoilers). I don't like the story because it lacks depth.
In general:
It doesn't convey a specific message.
The story is average.
Character development is zero.
The plot is very superficial; if you like Seinen, you won't like this. It’s just mindless action.
Animation:
I don't care much about animations and ... art styles, but I should mention that the drawings seem good and the animations are nice. However, there were parts in Season 2 that felt rushed (I won't lower or raise the score because of this).
Characters:
I didn't like the characters much. Especially Gojo stands out unnecessarily, and people watch it just for him; I don't think that makes much sense.
Conclusion:
If you like action and Shounen, I can't say, but if you like Seinen, you won't like this anime.
