pretty taste, sharp opinions, no filler tolerated
I watch anime for two reasons:
to feel something . . . or to be impressed. Preferably both.
If it looks good but says nothing? I’m unmoved.
If it’s all plot and no emotional payoff? I’m annoyed.
If it does both well? I’m locked in for life.
My taste sits somewhere between high-stakes action, emotional devastation, soft romance, and “why did this just hit me like that?”
I respect range—but I reward intention.
✦ What I gravitate toward:
– elite character development (non-negotiable)
– emotional payoff that actually earns it
– clean animation / strong visual direction
– power systems that make sense (or at least feel good)
– romance with tension, not just vibes
– women with agency, depth, or chaos
– found family / reluctant bonds
– stories that know when to stop
✦ my rating logic:
10 → changed my brain chemistry
9 → excellent, I will talk about this unprovoked
8 → very strong, highly recommend
7 → enjoyable, no real complaints
6 → you lost me somewhere
5 and below → we need to have a conversation
endings matter.
you can absolutely fumble a great show and I will adjust accordingly.
✦ taste profile (aka: where I stand)
I love big worlds and bigger emotions
→ Hunter x Hunter, Fullmetal Alchemist, Naruto Shippuden
I respect visual beauty—but not at the expense of story
→ yes, I’m looking at you Neon Genesis Evangelion and Spirited Away (we can argue)
I enjoy action with intention, not just noise
→ Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, Chainsaw Man
I need romance to actually romance
→ A Sign of Affection, Fruits Basket, My Happy Marriage
I appreciate soft, healing, or quietly powerful stories
→ Natsume’s Book of Friends, Frieren
and occasionally…
I just want something fun, chaotic, or unexpectedly excellent
→ Blue Lock, Dandadan, Kotaro Lives Alone
✦ things I do NOT tolerate:
– unnecessary hypersexualization (you will be judged)
– strong starts with chaotic or weak endings
– pacing that disrespects my time
– storylines that forget their own premise
– “it gets good later” (why isn’t it good now?)
✦ currently watching:
rotating between chaos, comfort, and “oh this might be elite”
(if it moves up the list, you’ll know why)
✦ final note:
If it’s on my list, I saw something in it.
If it’s ranked high, I meant that.
And if I say something is overrated…
just know I’ve already prepared my argument.
Raised by Circumstance
Stories where childhood is cut short and growth is forced, not chosen.
Absent parents. Heavy expectations. Lessons learned the hard way.
I don’t just watch these—I recognize them.
These are the characters who had to figure it out early, carry more than they should, and keep going anyway.
"Pretty Taste. Sharp Opinions"
Visually strong, emotionally intentional, and actually well executed.
I value atmosphere, character work, and follow-through.
Looking good will get you my attention.
Delivering on the story keeps it.
Almost Perfect, But . . .
Strong concepts. Beautiful execution.
…and then something didn’t land.
Sometimes it’s the ending.
Sometimes it’s the pacing.
Sometimes it’s a decision I can’t ignore.
Good—just not untouchable.
