Wordless Wednesday with Derry the Adventurer

Image
Okay, it really wasn't much of an "adventure", but he took advantage of the mild temps last weekend, and the then-melting snow to check out the garden. (We've since had a snowstorm, with more of the white stuff on the way.) The squirrels have been all over the place, and have been eating my fence too, so their scents likely were what he was sniffing.  Bottoms up!  :-D Done and ready to come in! Comments are off, this being "wordless" (for you) Wednesday. Peace .

Another day in paradise

Image
I'm writing that post title tongue in cheek, but really, it is "paradise" to be reasonably healthy, have a home, decent job (at least for the moment!), food, clothing, etc. Sunrise sky early last Saturday morning. Things still are chaotic at the office, though most of the staff in our department have moved to their new offices or cubicles. I have not, I'm the only one having to move her stuff three times for this reorganization (out of my current cubicle last week for partial painting, back into my cubicle on Monday to set up to work, then to my new cubicle on the 29th). Below (old cubicle): I'm living out of boxes and working scrunched at the end of the desk, because the cubicle is moved away from the wall for the painters and we don't have any power bars long enough for me to set the computer up where it should be. I'm not getting a lot done this week! The biggest plus to this shift in space is that our sub-unit finally is cluste...

What IS it with this week?!

I have no idea what's going on with the Universe at the moment, but this week has been crazy, utter chaos. We're in the middle of office insanity as the other department packs up to move downstairs on Monday, furniture movers are all over the building, painters are working (three other units departments are renovating and/or moving within the building), there are mountains of boxes everywhere....We all have to pack up too, to enable the painters to come in over the next two weekends and also to move to different offices or cubicles within the suite.  Beyond that, one of my co-workers and her hubby rescued a lost or abandoned cat two days ago, starving. S/he still is in their basement bathroom; I think it'll be the weekend before they can get the poor thing to their local humane society (only only from 9 AM till noon). Another co-worker's wife ended up in the ditch this AM (with their young children in the car). Everyone is okay (shaken up, I'm sure), but in...

Sometimes, just sometimes, winter is magical

Image
Most of the time, winter in the city looks like this: That was the start of our big melt, mid-past week. A slushy, icy mess that makes walking a dangerous challenge. And winter looks like this (we got walloped Friday night and Saturday morning, with at least a foot of snow):  The cars below are dwarfed by the snowbanks! But sometimes, just sometimes, winter is magical and looks like this (click to enlarge):  The poles (?) below look like iced-over ducks to me! I had errands in the west end this morning, and though it was minus 23C and I whined (to myself) about it, I forced myself to go out. I bused to the nearest Starbucks for a chai latté, then took my time and walked the rest of the way to the big box store complex, detouring via my favourite little park. So, so worth it . The paths weren't plowed, but a few others had tramped through the snow before me, so I just followed in their footsteps, seeing lots of critt...
