Another new year is almost upon us

Image
I'd like to thank you for reading and commenting through 2015, particularly given that I don't blog about anything exciting, just my average life "stuff." I really don't know why you do follow this blog, but I appreciate your words and kindness more than you'll know. I'd also like to wish you a very happy New Year, one that's filled with more love and laughter and good health and happiness than is filled with the negative. If you are struggling right now, please hang on and know-- know with every fibre of your Being --that this too shall pass and that all will be well. May you find whatever your soul needs as you journey forward. Image cropped from a free wallpaper graphic I'm going to post a few inspirational images, with apologies if you've seen them already. I'm really big on focusing on the positive right now, trying to see possibility when, for years, I've seen only impossibility. Possibility is, in fact, my word for 20...

Nicki's such a great help!

Image
I had to hang around the house all day, waiting for FedEx to show up with the Ikea purchases. He finally did, around 2:30 PM. Nicki was eager to help unpack; as soon as I put the first box down, he was there to open it.       I don't know what it is about cardboard, but you can't leave it around Nicki, he goes to town "eating" it (chewing and spitting it out). I know many cats do this, but he's the only one I've had who does. It's a sickness.  :-P  Again, you can see what a help he was unpacking all the pieces. And that was about it for his help! He spent the rest of the time sleeping while I put the two tables together. There's a smaller (but taller) table that can slide over the top of the coffee table; I put that upstairs in the guest room (no pic). It's not bad for such an inexpensive item. I wanted to try something that had an "airier" feel, because my living space seems so small and cramped to me. The fur...

Who ordered winter?

Image
I don't know who ordered the snow and freezing rain, but I have a few words (and finger gestures) for him or her. We got about 10 cms of snow before it changed over to freezing rain, and it's been a messy day. Clearing my driveway wasn't as bad as I expected, though. I took it slowly and even so, it was only half an hour to do it. I did head out for a few hours (I go stir-crazy when cooped up in the house). Transit was running on time, in spite of the road conditions. Awesome job on the part of the drivers! It was kind of nice to be downtown with hardly another soul around, and I even popped into a few stores (drugstore, dollar store, etc.). Super time to shop too. LOL. Anyway, here are a few snapshots from this morning:               That's it, I'm done with winter, am so ready for Spring! Peace .

Flexing

Image
Have I mentioned that I love the FlexBrew coffee maker Mom gave me for Christmas?  :-)  Coffee in moments, not endless minutes. That's especially important at 4 AM! An afternoon chai latté. (Possibly with a small piece of carrot cake to accompany it.) Heaven. How does it get better than this?   :-) Anyway, we're freezing our butts, furry or otherwise today. Windchill is minus 14C. Okay, it was plus 16 or so on Christmas Eve. That's a huge drop in only a couple of days. We're also bracing for our first taste of winter, with snow here slated to be in the 15 - 20 cms range overnight and into tomorrow. I ran errands this morning, including watering my plants at the office, in case I end up hunkered down at home for the next couple of days.  I had thought to go somewhere this morning to take a few pics with the little Nikon, but it was just too cold. All I wanted to do was go from bus to store to coffee shop (okay, it was McDonald's for a latté) ...

I'm soaking up the peace and quiet!

I was out doing a few errands early this morning, as usual. Stocked up on coffee and chai latté pods (on sale) for the new FlexBrew that Mom gave me for Christmas. I love it! Used it for the first time this morning, with both a pod and my then own ground coffee. Heaven. (I have an old 4-cup coffee maker that I've been using at home, and we have a pod brewer at work. Now I can use pods at home too; woohoo! How does it get any better than this?) And every cell in my body is soaking in the lovely, lovely peace and quiet, with the neighbours gone at least for a few more hours. I have jazz playing, my Christmas tree lights are on, the cats are curled up nearby, I have a glass of wine... How does it get any better than this? Anyway, the boys had fun Christmas morning. I gave them a new scratcher and wand toy, and Mom had sent them a couple of catnip toys. Keep an eye on Derry in the background in many of the snapshots.  :-)           ...

How does it get any better than this?

It's the holidays, I'm off, right now the neighours are gone, the boys seem okay, I won a free ticket on the Lotto Max, I have wine in the fridge...How does it get any better than this?  :-) So, mostly I have pics from the past couple of days. Lots and lots of pics. Amazing cloud pics from Christmas Eve. Dark and blurry pics of the boys on Christmas Day. Tales of online shopping (paws up for free shipping from Ikea yesterday). Too much for one post, so I'll start with the cloud pics on the 24th, all snapped over a ten-minute span while waiting for Jysk to open. (No, I didn't buy anything, I went to check on something I had seen online.) First, early AM on the 24th, my only shot of the moon before the clouds covered her. I wanted to see how well the little Nikon would do -- not nearly as good a job as my Fuji! These (below) were outside of Jysk (not all taken in the same direction/at the same point in the sky). The wind was strong and the clouds were moving qu...
