no impact man

this is a blog that my hippie husband’s been reading that i’m going to add to my list. this guy is quite the enviro-nut, and has a good sense of humor about the whole thing. this is the very long tagline to his blog, it just might make you want to start reading it too:

“a guilty liberal finally snaps, swears off plastic, goes organic, becomes a bicycle nut, turns off his power, composts his poop and, while living in new york city, generally turns into a tree-hugging lunatic who tries to save the polar bears and the rest of the planet from environmental catastrophe while dragging his baby daughter and prada-wearing, four seasons-loving wife along for the ride”

the big finale

carriebig.jpg

i know i am likeĀ a hundred years behind, but i have just finished watching the whole sex & the city series and i LOVED it. they play two episodes late each night on tbs so i have been tivo-ing them and watching them the next day.

christian claims to hate the show, but somehow didn’t hate it enough to get off the couch when i’d be watching them. saturday night were the final two episodes so we watched them together last night. and i don’t want to name names, but let’s just say one of us cried, TWICE. and it wasn’t me. haha. i can’t wait for the movie in two months!

confirmed: christian really is half argentine

cbempanadas.jpg

christian had an urge late last night to make empanadas, which just proves to me that he is really half argentine. i think his grandma used to make them with three ingredients inside: ground beef, egg, and green olives. but, as most of you know, christian doesn’t usually eat meat or eggs so his empanadas are filled with things like tofu, spinach, onions, carrots, potatoes, and curry. (and i might add he made the dough from scratch, impressive!) his plan is to take them to work this week for lunch.

k-k-k-kayla

what can i say – it was such a joy to have kayla here for most of my week. i love that we are both the type of people that like to constantly be on the go because it meant that we got to do a lot in such a short amount of time. not to mention she makes me feel giddy and giggly whenever she’s around! christian said he would be worried if she moved here because it is entirely possible that she could make me happier than he can. it’s the truth!

happy (mini) easter!

kelly sent me the cutest mini easter basket today complete with mini pez, a mini harmonica, a mini notebook, mini nutella, baby chicks (we used to obsess over them at pier1 when we were kids), and last but not least, mini summer sausage. yes, it is gross, but i love it, much to christian’s chagrin. thanks kelly!!

story of a little american

we are in maryland right now for christian’s mom’s wedding. to pass the time out here in middletown, i decided to go through all of their family albums. at the end of my last one, i found a letter from christian’s dad, who passed away when he was eleven, telling the story of when he was born. christian hadn’t read it before and it was really amazing to read it together. i have to admit that it brought me to tears – first because it is so beautifully written and second because the way he wrote is so similar to the way christian writes. i am typing it up now, which christian’s mom said is what his dad intended to do but never quite got around to. here is the first paragraph:

This is the story of a little American, reminiscent in the way it begins, of another story told with deep love thirty-five years ago in Ithaca, New York. The story we shall tell here is inspired in many ways by that earlier one, by its intense humanity and intelligence, and of course most of all by the uniquely joyful love that we feel toward the little hero of our story, much as did the tellers of that other story toward the protagonist of theirs. Our story is told not for its own sake, but as a future gift to that little American, once grown, and to those whom he will want to share his life with. It is written for him and for them, so that they may know more fully who he is and where he came from.
