Trailer Trash: un ataque de nervios

For no better reason than that I took its name in vain earlier today, I thought we'd check in with one of the genuine masterpieces of '80s filmmaking, especially teasing here with its glimpses of divinities like La Maura and the exquisite Rossy, along with the now-seems-impossibly young Banderas.

Almodóvar really hit his international stride with this one, and like a first love, it has a special place not eclipsed by his later triumphs. And it just looks so damn great. In memory, everywhere in 1988 was those colors, and while I never hijacked a biker or got to dub Joan Crawford, it all feels very nostalgic. Sigh...

Portrait Gallery: Álvaro Villarrubia

Spanish shutterbug Álvaro Villarrubia can take my picture any time he likes.

Some of his portraits have their Warholish undertones:

The Once and Future Prince of Puke

Others give a fresh, chic twist to star portraits:

Carmen Maura, Reina de las Películas

Others simply document the loveliness set before them:

I can has Javier Bardem?

While others combine simple sets, an artful use of props, and fashion to tell an enigmatic story:

Amanda Lepore; yes, dear, you have breasts. We know. Put them away.

One knew that the boho scene in Madrid was fabulous; it's good to know it's being so fittingly captured on film.
