The Twig

And her acolytes. Or is it? The original caption simply identifies all involved as "Twiggy lookalikes". Some clearly more successful than others. I think an argument could made that the three in the back might well be gender illusionists in addition to being fans of the willowy supermodel; in fact, I think the one in the boater at the top of the pyramid may be Graham Norton.

Birthday Girls: Opposites, Attractive

It almost seems some sort of cosmic joke that these two icons of the 1960s share a birthday.

They are the polar oppposites of Mod Femininity. Twiggy ruled the fashion world with a ubiquity that's hard to believe today, when any girl who does more than two shoots a season is a "supermodel"; Cass brought an almost heartbreaking enthusiasm for showbiz to the cool LA affect of the Mamas and the Papas before launching her all-too-short solo career.

One adores them both, of course - but it's Cass, I have to admit, that I still dream a little dream of...
