Mother-daughter night

This weekend was the fathers and sons campout, so we decided we needed a mothers and daughters night! Emma & I with a few friends, Megan, Katie & Shar,  went to dinner at our favorite Mexican place and then came home, painted our nails and watched a movie. All and all and excellent evening. Emma kept telling me we needed to do this every weekend. I reminded her, that would mean that daddy would be gone ever weekend. She quickly decided we should do it every weekend, but still more often that only once a year!
I let Emma paint her own nails. She did a great job. It was hard for me to watch her do it on her own. I will admit to the perfectionism! But by the end they turned out great!
The movie we watched was The Odd Life of Timothy Green. It was "odd", but a sweet movie for Mother's day weekend.

2nd grade solar system and dancing...

Emma has been in a 2/3 combo class this year. I was pretty hesitant about the entire thing, but in the end I think it's been a good thing. The teacher, Mrs. Olson, is extremely organized, has excellent control of the class and loves teaching. Learning about the solar system is something that is covered in 3rd grade, but since it's a combo class Emma got to learn about it as well. They got to do oral presentations to their families on Friday. Emma was pretty nervous, but did awesome!
Showing off her planet
She told us all about Saturn.
After the oral presentations the class all got changed and ready to do some dances for us. Her teacher is from Mexico and borrowed skirts and fans for the girls and had sombreros for the boys. She loved being out there dancing, especially with the fan!

Something to do...

This last weekend there were actually things to do here in Ridgecrest!! It was pretty awesome. N8 and I finally had found the time to get a sitter and planned to go to dinner. Then on Friday afternoon Megan posted about a basketball event that evening. A group called the Harlem Ambassadors was coming and playing against a group of local citizens including our bishops son who played basketball for BYU. I quickly emailed the info to N8 and he seemed interested. So, we adjusted our time for dinner had a quick "date night" and picked up the kids and headed over to the community college to watch some basketball! It was basketball combined with some comedy and turned out to be fairly enjoyable.
I spent much of the time explaining the game to Emma. We obviously do not watch a lot of sports, but the kids enjoyed the game and the fact that the Hall family was in front of us as well as a few others from our ward and stake. It was fun to get out and do something different. I think as the kids get older we will have to take advantage of the school games!

Then on Saturday Megan once again game to the rescue and let us know about a customer appreciation event happening at the bowling alley. $1 games and $.50 shoes. You can't beat that! So, while Bud was at a birthday party, we took Emma, Mo and Henry over and played a game.
This is more to do in Ridgecrest in a typical month, it was pretty awesome!

Back to school night...

Last night we headed over to the school so that the kids could show off their classrooms. Bud had built a Pi Factory (you know 3.14 factory!) For math they built the structures out of straws and pipe cleaners then they wrote a mathematical story about it.
