Parade of 1000 Flags...

We live in a wonderful community that is full of patriotism and love for our country. For the last several years they community has done a parade on the Saturday before Patriot Day  in remembrance of September 11, 2001. In the past we've had soccer games the conflicted with the parade, but not this year. Also the Cub Scouts and School were walking in the parade. So, Emma, Bud and I all got to carry flags in the parade. What an awesome site the sea of flags walking down the main street in our little town!
N8 had Mo and Henry throughout the parade and they got a shot of the giant flag hanging off the fire truck at the park!

Henry was a little overwhelmed at it all!

Here we all are in the sea of flags blanketing the park.
This is where the program after the parade took place. We had to get a picture of the banner of the Marine, Alex Quan. He is a member of our ward and N8 worked with him throughout his time in the young mens program.
When we got home I posted it on FB for his Grandma to see. She used to live here and has since moved away:
This is what was hanging up at the Parade of 1000 Flags ceremony today in Ridgecrest. We thought you might like seeing it!!

She later posted this note back to me:
Rachel I want to thank you so much for posting the photo of Alex this morning ~ His parents were unaware the banner would be used at this event and were sorry to miss it (both working) but she still had time to go take photos today and they were able to see it with all the flags behind the gazebo thanks to my telling her about it and forwarding the photo to her. I am impressed with Ridgecrest honoring the young men signing up as well as all those who have served. Great to have the support of your community.

First day of Pre-K...

Today Mo started pre-k!! He was not super excited. He says that he likes to stay home with me and Henry and play the Wii! Despite this he still enjoyed his first day. The city program has changed a little this year and is now 3 days (Tue, Wed, Thurs) and includes some music and tumbling which should be fun.

Neon Tiki Tribe...

I was selected through MommyParties to host a Neon Tiki Tribe party.  The kids were excited to have a few friends over, eat some treats and check out the books.
First off they all tried out the glasses. (all of the glasses were pretty flimsy and seemed to fall off quite easily, but they still enjoyed them).
We talked about each of the Tiki's and the girls quickly decided they were both going to be "Tia" while the boys were more interested in what kind of powers they glasses gave them.
After a few donuts
They sat down and checked the books out. They all decided that they should give a copy of "Bullies: Playground Push-Around" to their elementary school councilor who has been doing assemblies teaching them strategies on helping those stuck in a bully situation, or how to get out of a bully situation.

Katie won the tshirt by guessing the number closest to my number and Simon won the poster!
All in all they all enjoyed it and I think they will enjoy reading the books. Some suggestions/ideas/concerns on my part: these are not AR books which the students at our school are asked to read and most students are checking books out from the library and these need to be accessible that way.
I was selected through MomSelect and was given the books, glasses, etc to try out. All opinions are my own.
