Any HTML experts > out there, who might be able to suggest how we could make this look > consistent, regardless of browser? I had brief look at the code, and the problem seems related to these lines: #RSide { float: right; margin-right: 1ex; overflow: hidden; width: 20em; font-size: .7em; } The space for the RSide is reserved on the Content div with a right margin defined in mingw-new.css (BTW, why another css???): #Content { /* IE margins here */ margin-right: 19em; } body>div#Content { /* Mozilla margins here */ margin-right: 21em; } now, since the widths are declared in em units, they depends on the actual font size, so the 21 (or 19) 'em's of Contents are about 30% wider than the 20 'em's of RSide, yielding to the blank margin. You can verify this by jus= t commenting the line: font-size: .7em; in the RSide selector and seeing how then it fills the whole space. If this is what you want to achieve, I would make this 2 modifications (but please note I only tested it for the front page and only in firefox/linux): 1. remove mingw_news.css from the html 2. add a margin-left: 1em; to the RSide selector As already pointed out, there is a lot of cleanup to be done on the css. Cheers Gianluca |

I apologize for what will be a question coming from a limited technical understanding. MSYS is used to build a makefile and contains binaries of programs I assume are under various licenses, some may be GPL, but I haven't reviewed them yet. What I wanted to know is if any of these software components of MSYS are transferred/copied into the resultant makefile and then into the resultant end program? If I understand makefiles correctly, the answer is no, but Id rather ask. The reason I ask is to know if there are licensing considerations as this becomes a method of 'distribution' Allan Hardy |

Is there a FAQ about those considering themself a mingw-developer and are willing to contribute with pre-build binaries? Or is the philosphy that mingw-developers should contribute to the "canonical sources" with patches so that the core mingw developer-team can build the binaries? No. It was my intention when I provided the mingwPORT versions that at some point in the future the msysDTK would not contain these tools. That point in the future is yet unknown. Please update the msys-automake binary > package to the latest source released version. Would anybody, (perhaps you yourself, Joe), care to provide an appropriately updated binary package? The current mingwPORT version is 1.9.5: http://prdownloads.sf.net/mingw/automake-1.9.5-mingwPORT.tar.bz2?download AIUI, automake is no more than a collection of Perl scripts and m4 macros. The canonical source is http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/automake/, and you should be able to use that pretty much OOTB, (see Frode's reply to this request). Speaking only as one of the project admins, I have no intention of maintaining a fork of GNU automake. I will consider distributing an image of an installed copy of the canonical source. Since I do not, and will not use automake myself, I have no incentive to develop a port, nor to continually chase GNU updates. MinGW and MSYS are community supported projects. If *you* want to have automake 1.9.6, then please develop a mingwPORT, and we will host it for the convenience of MSYS users. If patches are required, they should either be directed to the GNU project, or if minimal, simply provided as a local patch set, within the mingwPORT framework. Having provided a mingwPORT of any package, is there any real benefit in also distributing a prebuilt binary? From my own POV, building from source is no great hardship, although for packages with a long compile time, a prebuilt binary is often convenient. I will allow myself to be guided by community opinion on what should, and what should not be distributed in binary format, so please let me know what *you* think. In the specific case of msys-automake-1.8.2, since it is now so old, should we discontinue its distribution, (i.e. remove it from the *visible* files list), and leave users to install the mingwPORT? Alternatively, should we move it to `Previous', and replace it with a prebuilt image from automake-1.9.5-mingwPORT, or should we now wait for a mingwPORT of automake-1.9.6, and then replace it? Since, it apparently builds OOTB, from canonical GNU source, should we distribute it at all, or should we rather let users acquire it directly from a GNU mirror, (which, of course may be facilitated by providing only a mingwPORT)? Opinions please! Regards, Keith. |

Hi! I have some questions. What is the terminal's default text-encoding (code-page) and can I change it to Windows Latin 1 or UTF-8? Is it possible to edit and enter non-ASCII characters in the terminal (besides using \nnn)? I'm asking because I have some problem with non-ANSI characters. If my folder name is, say, =C5=E4=F6, then I can't step into my folder. =20 Even if I enter the harmful character as \nnn it doesn't work properly. For example, export FOLDERNAME=3D"\217\204\224" mkdir $FOLDERNAME represents the harmful characters =C5=E4=F6 or \217\204\224 in likely = DOS encoding (?). That they don't show up properly is of minor importance, however, they can't be used by for example "cd" or "chmod". Thanks for any help! Regards, Frode |

Hi all, I am trying to run a verilog simulation (Modelsim) through command line with Msys instead of through GUI. The performance through Msys is very slow compared to the GUI version (at least 5x slower). The CPU load and memory use is very low in Msys run. But with GUI run, CPU is fully loaded. Is there an option to allow more of CPU and memory to be used by Msys? Thanks, Oh __________________________________ Start your day with Yahoo! - Make it your home page! http://www.yahoo.com/r/hs |

It also looks bad in Mozilla 1.5, but appears fine in IE6. OTOH, the "Documentation" page looks ghastly in both browsers, with some paragraphs indented way too far, and no overall consistency in the page layout. My expertise in web page design and maintenance is, for all intents and purposes, nil. If the community wishes to have the web site maintained, then I need a volunteer to take ownership of, and responsibility for it, please. I've been looking into the other problem, reported by Dave Murphy, where no content is shown in the file release table on mingw.org. I *do* have sufficient experience of TCL coding, to be able to handle this, but it isn't going to be an overnight fix. I'm quite happy to plod on with it, but again, if anyone else would like to help out, it would be appreciated. Regards, Keith. |

I can confirm that it also occurs on my ThinkPad 600E W98se, Firefox (1.0.7). Would someone explain to me: Does "home page broken" mean broken into, or simply "in error"? There is not necessarily anything wring in msys;
possibly just different buffering conventions
regarding stdout. Adding fflush(stdout) as indicated
corrects your problem.
Hope the helps.
