Just uploaded an enhanced version of cygpath that follows cygwins more closely. Only option missing is the mode switch for text or binary (not even sure if needed since the runtime "msys-1.0.dll" seem to check for that allready ?). Reason i made this is that i sometimes run into sources which croak at the missing mixed mode support so i have to patch those. Preliminary testing shows no problems, but if you run into something let me know. If you find it ok i allready made it part of the msys core sources and can upload it in case you want this. Also added ldd and kill to the msys core source and the source was modified so it now compiles with gcc4. Several other enhancements added also so building more recent stuff still possible with msys-1.0 with minimal hackery. Might keep it afloat untill Msys2 is ready. file here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/cbadvanced/files/Msys%20Specific/cygpath-enhanced.7z/download |

I have not > seen a configure script that uses Ruby. While I agree that we should follow the "Minimal" nature of msys for core and extension tools, and not try to replace cygwin, the "contributed" part of our toolset is not so restricted, IIRC. And there is nothing that prevents any third party from providing any add-on tools they want, from their own website, regardless of any policies we may have. (In fact, it's possible our policies for "what" is accepted into our "contributed" area should be quite loose -- so that we can be strict on "how" those contributed items are packaged. That is, we can use "contributed" as a quality-control for addon packages -- 'these aren't core, but have been validated to play well with others'; if they are relegated to third-party-site pariah status, then they may not, probably will not, play well with core/extended.) Finally, even if we decide on some set of rules for "our" contributed area that excludes ruby, I think it's appropriate for external contributors to at least mention their mingw-get-compatible offerings here. -- Chuck |

Hi, I'm new to this list. I'm interested in contributing to the very promising MSYS2 development, but apparently there is no repository for it right now. Are there any plans to setup a repository (preferrably using GIT) so that efforts can be shared and coordinated? Cheers Jürgen |

Anything windows though will be slower than Linux, it is just fact. -- Earnie -- https://sites.google.com/site/earnieboyd |

Could you tell me how to create a symbolic name in msys. That is correct, because native programs such as MinGW's gcc doesn't understand a symbolic link as Cygwin had architected it we changed it to do a copy. I use sysinternals' junction.exe to create a junction point instead. Maybe one day will do the same in MSYS for symbolic links of directories but that will be a long while. -- Earnie -- https://sites.google.com/site/earnieboyd |
