Description

No. 849,253. PATENTED APR. 2, 1907. G. P. MANSFIELD.
STOCKING SUPPORTING MEANS.
APPLICATION FILED DEC. 29. 1906.
Vvtmeooaa v r irn'rrnn s'rarns Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 2, 1907.
Application filed December 29, 1906. Serial No. 360,034-
]0 all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, GEORGEF. MANSFIELD,
acitizen of the United States, residing at Scranton, in the county of Jackson and State of Mississlppi, have invented a new and useful Stocking-Supporting Means, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates more particularly to means for supporting socks or stockings from short or knee drawers. It is a well-known fact that it is the usual custom to employ in connection with this type of drawers garters that encircle the legs; but these are uncomirirtaible, and tend to stop the circulation of The object. of the presentinvention, therefore, is to provide sim le means of a novel nature whereby the soc s or stockings are supported directly from the drawers, said means being readily adjustable, so that supporters may be properl fitted to the wearer.
The referre form of construction is'illus; trated in the accompanying drawings, where- Figlure 1 is a detail perspective view showing t e supporters in place. Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view throu h a portion of the supporter and showing t e same on an enlarged scale. Fig. 3 1s a face view of the garter.
responding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the embodiment illustrated the drawers are shown at 4, and the socks to be supported, are designated 5. The lower ends of the drawer-legs are provided with depending tabs 6, having buttonholes 7 therein. Each of the garters comprises an elastic strap 8, the upper end of which is formed into a'loop 9, secured by a buckle-plate 10. The outer wall 11 of the loop has an opening l2therethrough. A button has a base 13, located the loo and ashank .14, that projects'through t e o ening 12 and is provided at its outer end wit a head 15. The stra is also formed into a lower loop 16, in whic is located a sock or stocking engaging clamp 17. The lower terminal of the strap is interlocked in a buckle-plate 18, that is slidably mounted on an intermediate portion of the strap. It
Similar reference-numerals designate cor-" will thus be ap. arent that the garter may be lengthened or s ortened, asdesired, by sliding the buckle-strap 18 on the fabric or webbing.
The use of the device will be clearly evident by reference to Figs. 1 and 2, wherein it will be noted that the button is engaged in the buttonhole 7 of the tab 6, and the clamp 17 is engaged with the sock or stocking in the 'usual manner.
It will thus be seen that the socks or stockings will be supported directly from the drawers, and there will be no binding action upon the legs of the wearer. Furthermore, the garters can be extended orshortened, as desired, so that they-may be properly fitted.
From the foregoing it is thought that the construction, operation, and many advantages of the herein-described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art with out further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion, and minor .details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or -sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with a drawers-leg having a tab provided with a buttonhole, of a strap havin a loop formed at its upper end, one wall 0 such loop having an openin therethrough, a button having a base locate within and inclosed by the loop, and a shank extending throughsaid opening. in the walland projecting from said loop, said shank detachably engaging in the buttonhole ofthe tab, means ad ustably connecting the lower terminal of the strap to an intermediate por-' tion of the same, forming a lower adjustable loop, and a stocking-engaging device having a portion engaged in the latter loop and ad justable therewith.
In testimony that 'I claim the foregoing as my own I havehereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE F. MANSFIELD.
