UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
REINHOLD BARTELL, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO BARTELL IMPROVED SHIRT COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y. A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
Application filed December 10, 1910.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REINHOLI) BARTELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shirts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in garment supporting means and has relation more particularly to devices of this general character whereby separate devices tobe worn over the shoulders may be dispensed with, and it is the object of the invention to provide a device of this character of a simple and comparatively inexpensive nature whereby the trousers or other clothing may be supported by the shirt proper when desired which arrangement also tends to keep the shirt in a good position and produces a neat appearance impossible to be obtained by the method of supporting trousers ordinarily used.
The invention consists in certain novel features of the construction, and combinations and arrangements of the several parts of the improved garment supporting means, whereby certain important advantages are attained, and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise better adapted and more convenient for use, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the claims.
In order that my improvements may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a fragmentary View in elevation of a shirt and trousers as in use, a garment supporting means constructed in accordance with my invention being shown in operative position; and Fig. 2 is a. sectional view taken on the line a a of Fig. 1.
In these views 1. denotes a shirt of conventional form and 2 the trousers, which may be as desired having secured to the inner face of the waist band 3 the buttons at, 4 or other anchoring means which are adapted to be engaged, as shown in the drawings, by the supporting tabs 5 although it is to be understood that other means than those shown in the drawings may be employed. At predetermined points, the shirt 1 has suitably secured to the inner face thereof the reinforcing strips 6 herein Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 11, 1912.
Serial No. 596,624.
shown as vertically extended, and cut through the shirt 1 proper and in each of these reinforcing strips 6 are the button holes or openings 7 spaced one from the other and herein shown in vertical alinement. Any number of button holes or openings 7 may be provided as is believed to be obvious and I have also found it of advan tage to form the reinforcing strip of the same material as that from which the shirt 1 is produced although this is not essential.
To the outer face of each of the reinforcing strips 6 at a point adjacent to and above each of the button holes 7 is attached the free ends of a loop 8 such loop 8 being of such a length as to be capable of passing through the adjacent button hole to accommodate the tab 5 as is particularly shown in the drawings.
From the arrangement hereinbefore set forth it is thought to be apparent that by causing the tabs 5 to engage the various loops 7 an effective adjustment of the trousers 2 relative to the shirt 1 maybe effected in order that such garment may be worn with greater convenience and it is also believed to be obvious that by having the weight. of the trousers directly upon the shirt 1 proper that the shirt will be caused to lie flat against the body at all times and thereby greatly enhance the general effect of such shirt during use.
From the foregoing description of my improvements, it is thought to be obvious that I have produced a novel and improved gari'nent supporting means which is capable of adjustment with trousers to properly support the same and which will result in an enhancing fitting of a shirt, and it will also be obvious from the above description that the garment supporting means constructed in accordance with my invention is susceptible of considerable modification without material departure from the principles and spirit of the invention and for this reason I do not desire to be understood as limiting myself to the precise formation and arrangement of the several parts, as herein set forth, in carrying out my invention in practice.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A shirt provided with garment supporting means positioned at predetermined points thereon, each of said means includ ing a reinforcing strip arranged on the inside of the shirt, said shirt and strip being provided with a series of vertically arranged button holes passing therethrough and a plurality of loops secured to the reinforcing strip above the button holes and adapted to pass therethrough.
2. A shirt provided with garment supporting means comprising a reinforcing strip arranged on the inside of the shirt and securely sewed thereto, said strip and shirt being provided with a series of spaced vertically arranged button holes passing therethrough, and a plurality of loops secured to the reinforcing strip above the button holes and adapted to pass therethrough, each of said loops having an end portion secured to the reinforcing strip and above the adjacent button hole, the lower end portion of the loop being adapted to be passed through said button hole to the outside of the shirt.
3. A shirt provided with a garment supporting means positioned at predetermined points thereon, each of said means including a reinforcing strip secured to the shirt, said shirt and strip being provided with a series of button holes passing therethrough and a plurality of loops secured to the reinforcing strip and adapted to pass through such button holes.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
REINHOLD BARTELL.
