A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
ABDOMINAL HOSE-SUPPORTER ATTACHMENT FOB CORSETS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 12, 1908.
Application filed November 21, 1907. Serial No. 403,169.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES E. DOOLITTLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgeport, county of Fairiicld, State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Abdominal Hose-Supporter Attachment for Corsets, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention has for its object to provide a hose supporter attachment for corsets which shall be especially adapted to prevent the halves of the corset from spreading at the front and to draw in and hold down the abdomen. This I accomplish by means of tabs which are attached to the corset halves, cross each other and are each provided with a clasp to engage the stocking on the opposite side from the attachment to the corset, said tabs being adjustably secured together at their crossing to retain them in position over the abdomen and prevent them from slipping down.
WVith these and other objects in view I have devised the novel stocking supporter attachment which I will now describe, referring to the accompanying drawing form ing a part of this specification and using reierence characters to indicate the several parts.
Figure 1 is an elevation of the front of a corset, illustrating the application thereto 01' my novel supporter andthe mode of its use Fig. 2 a detail front elevation on an enlarged scale, illustrating the mode ol" attaching the swinging hook to the tab; Fig. 3 a reverse view corresponding therewith; Fig. 4 a
a stockin section on the line 4-4 in Fig. 2 looking in the direction of the arrows; and Fig. 5 is a corresponding section. of the eyelets on. the other tab, either of which is adapted to be engaged by the swinging hook.
10 denotes the halves of a corset body, the structure of which is wholly unimportant as my novel attachment is equally applicable to any of the various styles of corsets upon the market.
11 denotes tabs secured to the halves of the body at a distance back from the front stays (indicated by 12) and extending downward and inward and crossing each other over the lower ends of the [rent stays. Beyond the crossing, each tab is provided with an extension 13, preferably made o'l elastic web, at the lower end of which is a clasp 14 to engage It will be obvious from Fig. 1,
that in use the clasp ol the right tab engages the left stocking and the clasp ol' the left tab engages the right stocking, the crossing oi the tabs over the abdomen acting to prevent the lower ends of the trout stays from spreading and to draw the abdomen in and retain it.
In order to prevent the possibility of the tabs slipping down below the abdomen and below the lower ends of the corset halves, I connect the tabs together at the crossing by means of a swinging hook 15 upon one of the tabs which is adapted to engage either of a plurality of eyelets 16 (two in the present instance) in the other tab.
in order to secure both the hook and the eyelets [irmly to the tabs and prevent the tabs from wrinkling in use, 1 preferably place on the under side of each tab a supporting plate 17 provided with holes for the eyelets which are passed through the plies of the tabs and the plates and the whole secured in place by [langing or spreading the straight ends of the eyelets. The hook 15 is adj ustably secured to one ol the plates by passing the straight end 01'' an eyelet 16 through a hole in the base ol the hook, the tab and the plate and then spreading or hanging the end of the eyelet, leaving the hook, however, free to swing on the eyelet, which makes the attachment adjustable to the wearer.
The operation in use will be readily understood lrom Fig. 1. The tabs are crossed and. secured together by the engagement of the hook with one of the eyelets in the other tab, and then the clasps are secured to the stockings in the usual manner, the clasp upon the r'ght tab being secured to the left .stocking and the clasp upon the left tab secured to the right stocking.
l'laving thus described my claim:
1. An abdominal hose supporter attachment for corset-s, comprising a pair of tabs adapted for attacluncnt to the opposite halves of a corset, said tabs crossing each other and each being provided with means for attaclunent to a stocking, one of said tabs being provided with a plurality of eyelets and the other with a swinging hook adapted to engage either of said eyelets, whereby the attachment is made adjustable to the wearer.
2. An abdominal hose supporter attachment [or corsets, comprising a pair of tabs invention I TICUL, ASSIGNOR 'lO BIRDSEY-SOMERS adapted for attachment to the opposite and the hook, whereby the tabs are prehalves of a corset, said tabs crossing each vented from wrinkling. 10
other and each being provided with means In testimony whereof I affix my signature,
for attachment to a stocking, one of said in presence of two witnesses.
tabs being provided with a plurality of eye- JAMES E DOOLITTLE.
