INVENTOR. MAM Q ZmcA/QL WILLIAM F. RESCHKE, 0F WIGHITA, KANSAS.
LOOSEQLEAF BINDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 18, 1919.
Application filed January 12, 1918. Serial N 0. 211,666.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, VILLIAM F. RnsoHKn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Nichita, in the county of Sedgwick and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Loose- Leaf Binders, of which the following is a description, referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
The object of the invention is to provide means by which loose leaves may be combined within a cover to form a book for the usual purposes for which loose-leaf books are employed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a rear view of the binder showing combined elements of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side View of the binder as seen in Fig. 1, the book being closed.
Fig. 3 is a plan view. ofthe book seen in Figs. 1 and 2 as it appears when open. 7
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, 10 represents a cover or binder for a book 11 having loose leaves 12 packed between the sides of said binder. The binder 10 and leaves 12 have channel cuts 13 made in the left hand portion of the book seen in Fig. 2, each cut 13 terminating in a hole 14. In Fig. 3 it will be noted that the left and right hand sheets 12, 12 are separate sheets, while the cover 10 is one sheet so that a cut 13 in the cover 10 connects to two holes 14, 14 or so that when the book is closed, the cut 13 of the cover 10 being transverse to the fold is then open as in Fig. 2 to receive the fastening band or cord 15 whose ends are connected by a flat crimped or corrugated spring 16 for elastic purposes.
The band 15 is passed through the top out 13 so that the upper loop 15 of the band 15 engages through the cut 13 into the hole 1 1 as seen, then the band 15 is cross threaded through the next lower cut 13 into hole 14 at l5 and again cross threaded through the next lower cut 13 at l5 the lower loop 15 of the band 15 engaging the bottom hole 14: as will be understood.
If desired a spiral spring may be employed in lieu of the flat spring 17 which however is deemed preferable as it obviates bulkiness of the allied parts.
Such modifications may be employed as lie within the scope of the appended claim.
Having fully described my invention what I now claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a loose'leaf binder, a cover folded midway between its ends and a plurality of loose leaves contained therebetween; channels, at intervals spaced apart, cut inwardly through the fold of said cover and inner edges of said contained sheets and a cord and a spring intermediate the ends of said cord and connected therewith to form a flexible endless band adapted to enter through and engage within the upper composite channel cut, thence be crossthreaded through and into each intermediate lower composite channel cut, consecutively, and thence enter through and engage within the lower composite channel out in the manner and for the purposes as specified.
