A rolling mill driving-shaft comprises a hollow cylindrical centre portion 1, to each end of which is butt-welded hollow cylindrical ends of universal joint heads 2. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the universal joint head forms the fork between which two part-cylindrical slippers bearing on a tongue of a mating joint head are retained by a cross-bolt.
