1,219,083. Bearings; universal joints. DURKOPPWERKE G.m.b.H. 3 Jan., 1969 [17 Jan., 1968; 14 Feb., 1968], No. 519/69. Headings F2A and F2U. The cross 3 of a Hookes joint is mounted in taper roller bearings 4 (e.g. needle rollers) with blind frusto-conical outer races 8 in cylindrical bores 9 in the yokes I, the bearings being located (e.g. under pre-load) held in the space between the races 8 and the bores 9 by a filler means 15. This may be an unsolidified plastics ring which sets gripping in a groove 11 in the bore, or a metal ring with a cylindrical lip at its outer end which is either crimped into an annular groove in the bore, Fig. 2 (not shown), or spot welded to a flange thereon, Fig. 3 (not shown). The Hookes joint may form part of a car or tractor cardan shaft.
