Abstract
996,911. Slip couplings. THEODOR WUPPERMANN G.m.b.H. Sept. 29, 1961 [Oct.11, 1960], No. 35404/61. Heading F2U. [Also in Division B3] A slip coupling for a rolling mill consists of an outer socket member 3 shrunk on to the reduced end portion 2 of a roll 1, a tapered non-metallic, preferably plastic, sleeve 5 being interposed between the two members, the torque capacity of the coupling being dependent upon the extent of their axial engagement. The sleeve 5 may be tapered on either or both of its external and internal surfaces, and the oil-shrinkage method may be used for assembling the coupling. The sleeve may be made of duroplast or thermoplast material, preferably with a hard fabric insert, or of a hard synthetic rubber.
