Abstract

928,884. Haymaking machines. C. VAN DER LELY N.V. Nov. 13, 1959 [Dec. 4, 1958], No. 38625/59. Class 6(3). Relates to a haymaking machine of the rake-wheel type wherein each rake-wheel has circumferential resilient tines. According to the invention the tines are arranged in pairs 10, 11, united by a connecting piece 12, the tines of the pair being spaced apart around the wheel-circumference by a radial angle of more than 45 degrees. Between any two tines 10, 11 of a pair are arranged at least two more tines 14, 17, each of which forms part of a different pair. The rakewheel has an annular hub 5 flanked by plates 4, 6 to form a hollow spool which is mounted on needle bearings 2 on a crank 3. The spool is connected to a rim 9 by flat spokes 8 and incorporates covers 24, 28 to prevent hay from reaching the needlebearings. Each double-tine has two portions 22, 23 within the rim joined to the arcuate connecting-piece 12. The connecting pieces are all arranged within the spoolportion and extend over arcs of about 25 degrees around the hub. The arcs are not circumferential to the hub but are arranged obliquely so that one portion 22 is pressed against one plate 4 while the corresponding portion 23 is pressed against the other plate 6 by the mutual resilience of the adjacent connecting-pieces and the pressure exerted by bolts 7 securing the plates 4, 6, together, Fig. 2, the tines have some freedom of movement in this arrangement.
