Cases with internal horns. - In a portable gramophone, the tone-arm is mounted upon a fitting or bracket hinged or pivoted in such a way that, when not in use, the tone-arm may be inverted within the casing below the level of the motor-supporting plate. The motor-plate may be removable from or hinged to the casing. In the construction shown, the tone-arm f is carried by a plate e which is hinged to a fitting c forming part of the internal horn. The motor-plate b is hinged to a side wall of the casing, and when it is turned up as shown the tone-arm may be swung down so as to be housed within the casing below the normal level of the motor-plate. In the playing position, the wider end of the tone-arm lies over the part c and the plate e fills up a recess in the corner of the motor-plate. A seating h with a clip may be provided to receive the tone-arm. The plate e may be pivoted diametrically with respect to the tone-arm, and the latter may be accommodated, when turned down, in a recess fitted with a cover-plate, or in the horn itself. A hinged door d may be swung inwardly as shown, to form part of the horn, or the mouth of the horn may be closed by a sliding door. A pad i' of felt or rubber mav be provided on the rear wall of the lid, on which the sound-box may be rested when the lid is open. A needle-cup m having a spring lid may be recessed into the top plate b.
