Abstract

1351225 Two-part couplings BENDIX CORP 1 July 1971 [1 July 1970] 30941/71 Heading H2E [Also in Division E2] In a two-part coupling each part 10, 11 has polarizing means comprising a rectangular recess 22 with plug-like inserts 21 removably seated therein, each insert comprising a base 23 and a stem 24 and there being an interference fit between the bases and the walls of the recesses. The base 23 of each insert 21 is of square crosssection and the stem 24 of rectangular section with a width less than half of the length of the square base which has ribs 26 for engaging the walls of the recesses. The recesses 22 are formed in the rigid insulating bodies 12, 17 of the parts which have pin contacts 14 in a cavity 15 and socket contacts in a raised portion 18 respectively, there being ribs (27) on the recess walls for engaging the insert bases. As shown, each recess can hold two inserts and each insert can occupy four angular positions. In use the inserts in part 10 have their stems positioned complementarily to the stems in part 11.
